- Russia said it scrambled fighter jets to intercept two US military long-range bomber aircraft that approached the Russian border over the Barents Sea in the Arctic. As the Russian fighters approached, the US strategic bombers turned away from the State Border of the Russian Federation, Moscow said. Watch the video for more.

Probably not. In August last year, for example, 2 Russian bombers were intercepted off Scotland's coast, but there was no media frenzy and no 'end of the world' predictions.
This event is being spun by pro-Russian media in order to promote the false 'Russian victimhood' narrative, while ignoring the historical context. It's designed to frighten people. Your response shows that it works.
In reality, both sides know that a couple of old bombers would not be sent to start WW3. They are simple there to gather intelligence by testing the other's air defense response.

Here in the Baltic area, we regularly chase Russian planes, but that when they are within typically Bornholm (Danish) airspace. I understand in this incident, US planes were not in Russian airspace. We dont chase Russian planes in those circumstances.
