This is so sad. Unfortunately, this story happens everyday, just with different Berts and Ernies. I wish people would wake up and realise things need to change.
@@@pikachuneoncat6480What you really like! So smurf,.. what's going on? What ahso the Smurfs,.. do they know these gummy bears aqus the forest,.. Yes.. almost the same,.. how Asterix only with magic rubber - bear - juice - take nix: otherwise you will like your sister see there: 03:33 ,.. I'm ice cold!! Small!
I thought I wouldn't find this video again. So sad :( The movie critic in me would have probably not have added that last scene. For more of a dramatic punch just skip to "one is the loneliest number. Or maybe redirect that last scene to something along the lines of Burt walking IP to the to opening the door roll credits and him screaming why
I would like a sequel where Ernest isn't dead, but was saved just in time by Bertrand. He was damaged from the injury and so Bertrand decides to take care of him fighting the prejudice and marry Ernest as he wish. Finally they could be happy together anyway!
Thanks for uploading this. Just learned of it for the first time in Vox's article "Are Sesame Street’s Bert & Ernie gay? A controversial history, explained." Really well-done production, though I wish they'd figured out a way to do the mouth movements more consistently.
I remember seeing this when I was probably 10-13 and the final shot of Ernie holding Burt and crying has lived in my head ever since, even now at 25 years old
When I was a kid - Ernie & Bert had just been nothing else but close friends. And WHY? Becaue no kid ever thinks about gays or not gays, heteros or not heteros, bisexual or not bisexual and such stuff. Kids are nonsexual. Kids are only interest in: can we play together or will we annoy echt other? No other quetsion!
Whatever happened to the bromance, where two guys just like to hang out. Taking a bath together would be strange here, but common in Japan, Turkey (I don't know If Turkish baths are still popular, today) and some other places. In the old days in America, guys sleeping in the same bed was not sexual. It depends on what you did in the bed. I would not be surprised if they were not designed upon The Odd Couple, who were heterosexual guys sharing an apartment or something. Bert and Ernie could even be brothers. Any case, yeah. Kids don’t think sexually and shame on those who sexualize them, unless maybe they were also sexualized and messed up in the head. I don’t think parents dressing their girl up like Madonna or some revealing outfit for a child beauty show falls under that category.
this dialogue based on Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour (1934). EVERYBODY PLS WATCH THE CHILDREN'S HOUR (1961) featuring an also heterosexually challenged Audrey Hepburn wbk
The most unsettling part of this, by far, is not the concept or the suicide attempt, or the issues of sexuality applied to familiar childhood icons, but BY FAR the costumes. The stiff jaws. The unblinking eyes. Yikes.
@@SomeoneCommenting That has to be controversial, when we put a bullet into our forehead, and the foam rubber padding samples out of our head... lmao [Caution Alert - this was(!) brought to us by the letter Y, and rightly so! :)]
4:39 the part here really got me. the script writing is gold. i had no idea this was a tragedy. i just thought it was some dumb bs lol. turns out it was thoughtful bs.
This is not a comedy at all this is such a sad and tragic video of Ernie and Bert. I do not consider this a spoof at all it is such a sad and dramatic version of Ernie and Bert. When I witnessed Ernie committing suicide in this video I was shedding tears quite a bit it reminded me of a close friend who did it. Ernie and Bert sounded like they had a completely messed up life in this adult version of Sesame Street. Miss Piggy was such a nasty and such a self-centered character in this version and Ernie started crying falling to the couch and Bert wanted to console Ernie a bit. I feel so bad for Ernie the most he must have been in a lot of pain and Bert probably did too. They were probably encouraged to be gay by their parents in this adult version and the parents were probably sexually abusive to their orientations. Miss Piggy was a mean self-centered pig for causing a solemn end to Bert's relationship. This whole video is sad and it's just as sad as American Beauty is.
This was an awesome production; the script is flawless, and the dialogue magnificent. Such a dramatic story told in such absurd terms... genius
this is so weird… but the funny part is "this has been brought to you by the letter Y WHYYYYY WHYYY!!!!!" lol
I found that part very depressing tho 😂
..."and by the number one!"
🎶 One is the loneliest number🎶
Oh, I'd kill for this in high quality.
This is so sad. Unfortunately, this story happens everyday, just with different Berts and Ernies. I wish people would wake up and realise things need to change.
real talk my nigga
Yes, we need to become "woke".
Banned by Sesame Street, but it still finds its way to UA-cam!
This just made my childhood sit in a corner and die...
I love this. Bert left alone. Hilarious
I actually kind of like it like this.

This film was banned due to a cease and desist order. So watch out for Sesame Workshop.
Bert and Ernie: *mario and luigi*
Ernest and Bertram: *wario and waluigi*
The ending made me very sad, not in a "ha-ha ironic" way, either. Nice piece of work by the writers and producers.
I've been watching this periodically for probably a decade now. I could probably quote it verbatim, and it still gets me every time I watch it.
All those wasted years of not seeing this. A masterpiece
Ernie and Bert sure have a lavish home.
Very homely 👌
Youd have to to live on sesame street
that's true!
One more piece of evidence.
In Los Angeles, no less!
OMG. I laughed, then stopped and questioned the world, and lastly wept while laughing my ass off at the end song. Brilliant.
its almost the same dialogue as The Childrens House. I love it.
This was quite the thought-provoking little movie. Thank you!
it took me too long to realize this was a parody of the childrens hour
I thought I wouldn't find this video again. So sad :(

PlaceboStripes I agree the dead body was out of place and made a sad moment to comedic
True.
The critics at the Sundance Film Festival seemed to like it.
The letter "Y" and the number "1". LOLOLOL
Woah, this is brilliant. You should make a sequel to this.
I would like a sequel where Ernest isn't dead, but was saved just in time by Bertrand.

I found this thanks to Wikipedia...I don’t have anything else to say
The ending really took away the seriousness of this XD
This guy has an Oscar now
the only episode that taught me anything significant. Sometimes a puppet loves another muppet, and that's ok
I'm addicted to this video. It's awesome and sad.
poor ernest and bertram. they didn't get the happy ending they deserved. this tragic story was perfectly told though.
Thanks youtube for recommending this for seemingly no reason in 2022. Sublime.
Good filmwork, great camera positions. I'd like to see this independent film company make films about other subjects as well.
That was just as touching as Karen and Martha. The costumes made it a little less serious, but still, the emotion was there.
Well done!
I was also thinking about the Children's Hour when I watched this
It's a six minute punchline to a Seaseme street joke!!!! Brilliant!!!!
the ending llmao @Infinite Possibilities
At least he cared about Rubber Ducky so much he didn't want him to see his own owner's death.
Excellent. Lilliam Hellman would be proud, and political satire is protected speech, not a copyright violation.
awesome in so many levels... a elegant comedy!

To think Peter Spears almost got sued for this is kinda hilarious
I remember seeing this when I was probably 10-13 and the final shot of Ernie holding Burt and crying has lived in my head ever since, even now at 25 years old
That was the other way around.
When I was a kid - Ernie & Bert had just been nothing else but close friends.

I used to think they were siblings
I think I knew I was asexual on some level even as a young child.
Great dolly tracking shot around them!
glad i wasnt the only one who noticed that lmao

There was no suicide 'attempt', there WAS a suicide in this.
I have a Bert and Ernie parody on my channel too!

I thought was killed by Bert... but it's sad anyway... 😭
This was actually really good ....sent a message and damn it hit right in the feels....
That stopped my heart. Everyone should see this. Brilliantly done.
4:39 the part here really got me. the script writing is gold. i had no idea this was a tragedy. i just thought it was some dumb bs lol. turns out it was thoughtful bs.
I thought it was going to end with Bertram serving Miss Piggy to Ernest for dinner.
That's what I thought was gonna happen, too!!!
Its funny because of the final scene
That would actually be awesome.
rip lillian hellman you would have loved ernest and bertram
5:27 - 6:16: so beautiful song, and yet so sad... :(
the guy who voices bertram is the english VA for Axel in Kingdom Hearts
Okay, that's enough internet for one day.
This is the creepiest thing I have ever seen. My childhood is ruined
i always just watch this and go wow & more wow as i go on, right til the credits. this is so well writ
I came here because I found a crazy image of Ernie on iMDb & the link sent me here, what a time to be friggin alive.
i found this bc of one of those watchpanda lists lol
Am I the only one that wants a sequel of Bert getting his revenge for Ernie 😂
Thank you for this!!! This was way outlaw and totally fucking hysterical!
how isn´t it like a big meme!
you'll never hear the end of my state of stitches at the party/dinner table if you bring this up with me irl
this is the coolest shit ever you should on TV
Ever since the CTW restraining order, I've been trying to see this... thanks for posting!
I’m going to do a remake of this with my puppet replicas
I ended up here by following videos from the guy who voices Raiden in the Metal Gear series, apparently he voiced bertram, this video was heavy...geez
I WANT MORE! I NEED MORE!!!
It wasn't so bad until I saw "Quinton Flynn". I started laughing my ass off. HELLO AXEL!

You know it's been confirmed that they're platonic.
Wow.
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH !!
A video on the internet
I have wanted to see this for years. Finally.
i love this so much, it deserves the world!
1:53 for when the actual plot starts.
Sesame Street has some nice ass condos!
one of my all time fave short films.
We are living in a golden age of short comedy films. This is brilliant.
Incredibly well done, great work.. disturbing.. but... fantastic!
2:29 ernie: Holy shit, bert!
I was 25 when this video was uploaded... :o
I was 17.
Janey Mack that is tragic but Bert just cracks me up especially when he says why thrice.
I've watched this a few times over the years, and have only just noticed Bert trying to kill himself at the start.
This is a good version of "The Children's hour"!!!1
Today's episode was brought to you by the letters Y, M, C and A.
I'm looking for it, too!
I found Spencer Day, and even some albums by him (he's a jazz singer) but neither one has this song! WTF??
My condolences for you Bert I'm truly sorry for your loss of your best friend Erine
I do appreciate the use of the Spartacus poster. Subtle.
WOW,,,,, This Rules,,, soo Well Done,, Soo Perfessional,,, and in a weird way,,, sad,,,
This is funny/sad. But the ending made me choke up all the same. Well done.
='[ Nooo! Ernie Shot Himself! Poor Bert
I agree with you poor Bert
I feel very bad for Bert 😭😭😭😭
I feel terrible for Bert loseing his only friend
Poor Bert
this is utterly brilliant! brilliantly made, very entertaining! thankyou. :D

That went dark
I met the guy who made it... He is so nice and weird... can you believe this was a big hit at sundance? plus he was sued by sesame street
Wow. I thought this short just came out; I'm surprised it was from '06!
maybe the coolest video i've ever seen!xD
I think I just saw my childhood flash right before my eyes! WTF?
This was amazing.
LOL the random Aaron Crotchovich movie, priceless! (0:53)
ENRIQUE!!! T_T,
que buen corto
That was very....heart felt.
so it DOES exist!
Who knew Lillian Hellman's play could bridge the gap between humans and muppets? Brilliant.
Wow um...There goes my childhood.
