make sure you use a thumbless grip, no bicep/forearm activation. use a suitable weight and pull down with your lats, imagine trying to tuck your elbows in your front pant pockets, if you had pants on.
No. The wider the grip, the more you target UPPER lats. Very close grip (as in the video) will target LOWER lats, along with biceps. For overall back development, you must use neutral grip (as in the start of the video).
There are very short attachments with handles perpendicular to the bar. That's maybe a good particular alternative to a long vs short horozontal handle vs a short attachment with vertical grip....
I prefer a v-bar bc it ensures my hands are definitely going to stay in place with the narrowest grip possible to target the lats. I do use the tricep pushdown bar though instead of the ropes when I'm doing tricep pushdowns.
Using more bicep when you have it that way. A pronated grip is always best when you want to use less bicep and more lats/other muscles. The supinated is the worst because it uses more biceps, so it makes sense halfway between supinated and pronated is still worse then pronated.
Same here. Same story with underhand chin ups and barbell curls, so I don't do those. It just seems to force your joints through an odd range of motion. Super unnatural.
Why tf are we taught all these things idk who to even believe anymore there’s so much misinformation and it’s really getting annoying I go to the gym 6 days a week for 2 years now and every week I’m doubting myself.
I disagree with this. I believe pulling straight down, tucking elbows 45 degrees, keeping a shoulder width grip on the Lat pull-down bar is plenty of lat activation as long as you’re focusing on not retracting the scalp and shoulder to involve the mid and upper traps. I feel it plenty in my lats this way especially when I allow a good stretch at the top.
Why not just hold the long bar with a narrow grip?
😂
That's exactly what I was thinking
My thoughts exactly 😅
That's like saying you can eat ice cream with a fork, no sh1t Sherlock 😂
Energy leaks from the ends. Unless you can stabilize the bar, then by all means
I do two lat movements on separate days
1. arrow grip palms up for lower lats and biceps
2. palms out wide grip for upper lats and brachialis.
The results of my workouts have greatly improved since watching your videos
Tried this. Narrow bar activated my biceps more and I felt no activation of my lats. Wide bar has always worked for me.

These work better with a thumbless underhand grip. Still hits the biceps but also hits the lats harder.
Then you did them wrong
Wider grip will get the top of the lats or the teres major, narrower grip hits the bottom of the lats. Don't need 2 different bars to do this.
Wide grip bar is longer and slightly heavier so kinda harder to stabilise
I tried this and I like it a lat.
👍
Will use wide grip any day. Has worked pretty well so far.
i am actually using a bench press bar for my lat pull downs, by using the maximum length, i can actually get all the way back to my lats.
lolol
😂
So if i want to train the whole back, the wide bar/wide grip is better?
Yes, wide grip for more back activation.
No. The wider the grip, the more you target UPPER lats. Very close grip (as in the video) will target LOWER lats, along with biceps. For overall back development, you must use neutral grip (as in the start of the video).

Can’t believe how good this is, you rock!
Cool I'll try this next time I work my lats
Every single video you post, it’s a vibe. Keep it up!

With small bar force me to focus on narrow grip, that's it 👍
I noticed a more narrow grip gives a better stretch!
I alternate with a long bar and wide grip to a short bar and narrow grip. Seems to cover me for both gains.
Wide bar kills your gains! Got it!
i really feel my lats with the "multi grip bar" it is slightly wider than shoulder width with a parallel stirrup handle on each end.
Dude... neutral grip pulldowns (or pullups) all day... Bring it to the chest.... full extension.
I completely agree a narrow grip gives you more of a stretch I have been saying this 💯
I like a Nuetral grip bar with upright posture, very tiny lean. Slams the lats!
I will have to try that tomorrow. Perfect timing Jeff!!!
Why not use same bar and just adjust grip?
Why can’t use just use a closer grip, same form and same range of motion on the same bar?
From the thumbnail, I thought Jeff was holding a lightsaber...
Neutral grip 👍
Can you talk about not losing gains while you are sick
Switching up is definitely good, thanks for the good advice Jeff
V bar?
I always liked using the real narrow grips for lat pulls downs. Like the ones used for cable rows.
Mike Mentzer suggested it in 80’s
Reversed narrow grip does the same
Why do you need to change the bar? Why not just grip narrower?
You could.
Correct but yes why not just narrow your grip
Why not just use a narrow grip on the first bar?
Jeff is aware of that. He just wants people to make plenty of comments.
Or...just grab the lat pull bar with a narrow grip. No need to change bars whatsoever.
The Lat bar is killing your gains
Just Do Pullups
Thank you lmao
🙏🙏
Effective Reps
supinated hit the lats better
My wrists hurt whenever i do this type of narrow grip on a straight bar. I prefer doing it with the v-bar.
Same, tricep pushdown s, all of that I use the v bar, feels much more comfortable on the wrists

@@Josiahministries Im ok with this trade off rather than injuring my weak ass wrists. Lots of exercises for lats.
@@dadp12780 my wrists aren't strong either I use wrist straps. I'm not sacrificing anything for the best technique, I don't want to waste time.

Oh ok narrow gip pulldowns.
I use an Olympic bar and hold it narrow😅

Mmmm, I dunno...
