"Croup, also known as largnotracheobronchitis, is usually a self limiting upper airway viral infection. As the name suggest there is an inflammatory response occurring the larynx and trachea causing upper airway obstruction. This leads to the characteristic features of croup: a hoarse voice, barking cough, inspiratory stridor and increased work of breathing. Croup is the most common infectious cause of airway obstruction in children usually between 6months to 3 years, and is more common in boys than in girls"

I am working through mandatory training at the moment - multiple modules of Paediatric CPG, all of which have been quite wordy and convoluted at times. This has been EXTREMELY helpful and easy to understand. Thank you!!
Used to get taken to the hospital fairly regularly for this before I was 5.
They were some of the earliest and scariest memories I ever had, looking at my mom driving through flashing yellow lights at 3am while I was struggling to just get the smallest amount of air in my chest. The last time definitely would have killed me if it wasn't for how quickly I got treatment.
Get your mom some flowers for that.
Thank you so much my son is having this tonight I wasn't sure what was going on. So informative and easy to understand
Very good video, liked the severity demonstration with sounds and pictures, keep up the good work man!

Just got diagnosed with this at the doctor today ... Never in my life had I heard of something like this disease, every night has been terrying without being able to breath, thank you for such a informative video
Thank you. Your videos are so helpful. They really help me with my clinical presentations.
I still remember when I had croup. I was 7. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t breathe. My dad rushed me to the hospital. I just remember having an oxygen mask shoved on my face and looking up at a whole bunch of doctors
This is the same story I had.
This was extremely helpful. My son is going through every symptom. The barking cough sparked my thoughts. This was incredibly informative
Did it end of being croup
Warm regards from Brazil, I watch your videos even when I know about the subject because it's interesting to reinforce the matter again 😀

My son has it too, we are on day 2. How is your son now? I don’t have any other mom friends to ask :/
@@rosauramartinez9492 thank you, he’s well now. Day 2 and 3 are probably the worst. My doctor says give redipred at around dinner time. And it helps, can only use it for two nights though. It’s really difficult to watch them go through it but it does get better!

As a paramedic who went to a severe croup case recently, this video is brilliant thank you 👍🏻
I gave Dex but would love to know how Dex works.
The reason behind the stridor and obstructed airways are caused by the immune response to the invading virus to the respiratory tract, especially the larynx and trachea here in the croup setting. Dexamethasone decreases the immune response to alleviate the obstruction via reducing the edema and constriction in the airways, thus improving the case all around.
Thanks a lot man!
Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much I’ve learned some things thank you

Eyyy I had that when I was 3, luckily modern medicine kept me alive. Weird to think I could have died if it had been 100 years older
Thanks a lot sir.
Apparently it's so rare in adults, that it was only detected in 1990. I totally lucked out, and seem to be getting it with a few years in between.. as a 30something
Perfect
Nice video : )
A beautiful presentation. Thanks

i have this when i was young and the time commenting this
My son get’s spasmodic croup. Randomly at night sometimes.. it comes on so quick and worsens to an emergency in just 5-10 mins ... I have to rush to the fridge and get a dose of steroid and it’s like magic calms it down with in minutes until it’s all gone about 20-30 mins later. We never really knew what he had exactly, until recently this new name spasmodic croup surfaced.
His older brother used to get it to so definitely has to have a genetic factor
jodykeo _ genetic or maybe environmental?
Is this steroid over the counter or prescribed? My 4 year old gets this every year and now my 3 year old. I normally control it by taking them outside. Luckily it’s at night when it’s fresh out. They breath immediately
@@Justpoppa93 it’s prescribed by a GP
@@marycarolinevaxxedworld6258 I think its both factors
i'm watching this with croup. now i know what happened.

I used to get is once’s or twice a year until I was 11 I think I have it now I’m 13
My parents say that I had croup when I was one year old. Could this be related to the reactive airway I occasionally get as an adult?
I’d say it’s def possible than not
Dude im twelve and I woke up with this today uh oh
After getting croup my cough permanently sounded like a bark
I’m 22 and have this and asthma .-.
Wave gmpp
I’ve had in my entire life. Started when I was about 2 to 3 years old, and now I am 41. Worst part about it is my four year-old just developed it, and started barking like a seal today. I hope it goes away soon, because it has been one of the worst portions of my life.
i just wanna know how to get rid of my sickness not science 😭
i woke up with croup this morning, i’ve suffered with it for my whole life. but if u get it young u usally grow out of it, which i thought i did because i didn’t have it for 4 years. usually it starts with a cold, then moves on to croup. but i would recommend going outside to get fresh air and taking dexta medicine. when u feel better go have a hot shower. then you should feel much better. and after that it’s usually all good. hope this helps!
