I always appreciate you mentioning the safety steps you take. You see to many people glossing over some of the hazards of the hobby.

I think something that would help with the feeling of speed is dust clouds being kicked up by the engines and maybe some "speed lines" coming off the pod racers themselves.
In an absolute sense, fins open right would make a right bank. However, the pods are moving relative to each other. The Anakin pod is doing what we see in the movie a couple times - hard jank followed by a slam forward to get around the pod in front of him.
I came to say this too, if Ani was banking left, the left airbrakes would be opened up 🤓😶 your explanation is perfect though
The pod race in one of the first Star Wars movies is still one of my favorite scenes!

The patrons really did well this time and the addition of the fiber fill for dust was amazing. Maybe you need to update this model already.

You have no idea how nice it is to read this, having no idea in advance that you’d written it.
At some point there should be a public gallery for all your dioramas so that they can be enjoyed in all their glory.
Phantom Menace had some rough writing but still had more creativity, designs and worldbuilding and ideas then all of the SW sequels

They can literally still make a podracer movie and nobody would complain, that's how good the concept is. Why they still don't I have no clue.
I pretty much never comment on here but I need to mention how serendipitous it is that this popped up in my feed after I played Episode 1 Racer a ton this week.

The streaks on the backdrop look odd on their own, but in the context that the eye or camera is following the fast vehicles, it gives the impression that the ground is zooming past and streaking the camera lens, very nice.

This is incredible work, as always, Boylei! And your motion-effect on the base really sells the scene! Not too bad for an 'experimental' idea . . . .
Though "The Phantom Menace" has its detractors, one thing that I appreciate about it is the now iconic Pod Racing scene; mainly for the inspiration that the basic concept provided for modelers of Science Fiction subjects.
Though Anakin's Pod was the only one actually kitted, (I would have also liked a model of the one Sebulba used,) the idea of Pod Racing has inspired thousands of scratch built examples that are as unique as they are canon-compliant - like the two you have framing Anakin in this scene. I suspect that even diehard "Star Wars" fans would be hard-pressed to realize that your designs are originals that weren't actually in the movie.

Awesome. On earth, increasing the drag by opening the fins would pull the aircraft to the right. I don’t remember how it was in the film. Either way, who cares? It looks great!

Given me a good reason to watch the movie again. Cool. Kind of inspired me to finish off my "Luke in the trench, Death Star" diorama I started - that was to have a blurry effect, I built the small scale Revell ships but got stuck on how to proceed with the scene.
You have some great ideas. (Like the kid's Lego pod, by the way.) 👍

I just did my first model yesterday and completed it! It is a WW2 U.S. Consolidated B-24J Liberator. I think I could have done better but for my first model, I think it’s pretty good 👍
I personally think that this diorama is one of my favorites of yours. I do think that a barotrauma model would be cool or like a monster chasing a submarine

If the starboard fins were open, they would be creating drag in order to bank to the right, not the left.... 👍🏻

It occurred to me that painting the wooden veneer black either after cutting to size and before sticking to the model (or painting the entire sheet black and then cutting the strips you need from it) would prevent accidental over painting and also be a smidgen easier?
As an aviation nerd, I have one small criticism to make... The air brake on Ani's podracer should be on the other side for the bank he's making.

I wish they would make a podracer movie or novel. The stories in the video game were pretty cool.
I get what you mean by the “finicky” nature of the kit lmfao, so many of these older, non snap fit models are hard to work with and ultimately aren’t as fun as something like gunpla or even bandai’s own Star Wars line. You did great as always regardless, looks amazing!
