    Howdy Maria. Lovely reaction, thankyou.
I took a totally wild punt on this one with Tori.
As mentioned in the description to the video Karen only sang one verse of this song in her medley with Perry Como, but it was so gorgeous I really wished the Carpenters had recorded the whole song. So I had this wild idea. I thought wouldn't it be lovely to hear Tori finish what Karen started. So knowing Tori wouldn't be able to find a backing track in the right key because it was a hit for a man, I decided to record the piano part in the key Karen sang it in and then sent it to Tori. I had no idea whether she'd like or even know the song. Why would a 20 year old know a Perry Como hit from 1970.
Well imagine my delight when she responded and said it was one of her absolute favourite songs. I can tell you the day she sent me her first vocal take I was absolutely floating on air. It was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. I had to go out just after it arrived and on that half hour walk I had it playing in my ears on a continuous loop. I think it's pretty close to the best vocal she has done so far. And, as you know, there is great competition for that accolade. This was the first of our trans-Atlantic collaborations. I hope there will be many more.
Tori's voice is seriously special. Thankyou again for another really lovely reaction.

Googled: "Somos Novios" (Spanish for "We're a couple") is a song first recorded by Mexican songwriter Armando Manzanero in 1968. Perry Como recorded an English version of "Somos Novios" with original English lyrics titled "It's Impossible", which was a top 10 hit in the US and the UK.

Great comments and analysis Maria. Once again, Tori nails a classic song. You mentioned that she likely has the ability to belt it out if she chooses. I'm not sure I've heard that yet but I would love to. If not, it's okay because what she does, she does so well. Tori's voice is timeless and in my opinion is up there with the great female vocalists such as Karen, Olivia, Linda Ronstadt, and others. She deserves to be discovered and will continue to bring a lot of joy to those that appreciate this music. Peace out.

Hi Maria, thanks for the thoughtful and sincere reaction. All of your looks at Tori's work have been very enjoyable and insightful. Also, Dan's back story in his comments here adds such a poignant and personal touch to this rendition. I certainly hope they continue to collaborate. And as always, thanks Joe for the request!

@@jbs256Hey Joe, not sure if you saw my response yesterday to your message over on Fil's channel, because I have since deleted the original comment. The only possible explanation I can think of for my comment ending up over there is that I vaguely remember acknowledging a prompt on my phone to sync with the YT app on my "smart" TV (which I usually ignore) just before I wrote the one for Maria's channel. As soon as I hit the send button, the comment disappeared from my phone and I thought it had somehow been deleted. Needles to say, not having the time to re-compose a new message, I figured I would come back later, but the comment obviously ended up where you found it. I certainly appreciate the heads up, clearly a testament to your diligence in monitoring "Tori Talk" in the YT universe! Thanks again 😂

@@SAnnun-hs1ioI like to look and see what’s out there. It gives me ideas. Like, I learned about Sandy Denny and agree, Tori needs to cover her. Eva, too. Though that Ukulele is always in the background. Cover Rainbow in homage to Izzy. I know she’s been very busy so … hoping for the best. Oh, go check out Jennifer’s Suddenly reaction. I’d like to get more comments it’s just me and Chris, now.

Sometimes, in the worst of days, all it takes is Tori and Dans warm and approachable style to touch us in such a way that makes the impossible a possible miracle.

    Hi Maria!
Thanks for this lovely and moving reaction to this emotional song. There’s a story behind it, let’s see if I can get it answered. You had something that you may not know all of the history. This was originally written by a Mexican singer/songwriter in Spanish. It was translated into English and Perry was the first artist to sing it in English. I so agree with your assessment of Tori, she doesn’t belt, Karen didn’t belt, Olivia didn’t either. They all encase their songs in melted chocolate/velvet/molasses you name the softness. There are some great belters out there and they are great. Nothing wrong with that, there are those that don’t.
On a side note. You talked about Tori covering this time. She just opened up a new decade. Previously she mostly did 60-80’s with a few new songs of hers. She just recently dropped The Tennessee Waltz, Patti Page short cover from 1950. As you can imagine ❤.
And yes different times of recording their parts and different continents. Dan is in England and Tori is in Minnesota. We’ll work on the details.
    Joe
