  • In their new book The Divider journalists Peter Baker and Susan Glasser take readers inside the Oval Office during Donald Trump's four years as President. The writers obtained unprecedented access to key players, from President Trump himself to cabinet officers, military generals, close advisers, Trump family members, congressional leaders, foreign officials and others, some of whom have never told their story until now. The stories range from the absurd to the deadly.

      Don the Con Chump and the current serial lying republican party is one of the top 10 disasters in US history. Chump has done as much damage to the country and our rule of law as the worst elements of US history such as the KKK, Jim Crow laws, Senator McCarthy, and the like. Richard Nixon and Wategate was a minor event compared to the criminality and damage that Chump and the GOP have done.

Yet I noted in other stories that at the end of campaign, they were running short of money. I have heard no one else point this out. But meanwhile others want to focus on Hunter Biden's laptop. And then Kushner gets 2 billion from the Saudis for 'investment', after serving as Trump's head of Middle East policy.

    Agreed. Lack of knowledge was the least of it. There was plenty of resources to learn. He was all about how can I circumvent "this" in order to get "that". He also took advantage of "norms" which were not necessarily laws and walked all over them. He knows how to play the game all too well---unfortunately.

  • @fazzaz31
    @fazzaz31 Рік тому +6

    Indeed, the lack of attention to Trump's lack of qualifications for president was so unhistoric as to be almost beyond belief.
    Speaking of "tutors" I'm guessing that because Washington was such a sterling example (and Madison held him in such high regard as the sole role model), he perhaps thought hat any potential future candidate would attempt to emulate Washington as close as possible, and that no ignoble pretenders would present themselves, and ipso facto, was not even contemplated. To be fair, until Trump's arrival on the scene, I myself never questioned how shockingly naïve Madison was when he put to paper the qualifications for President in Article III of the Constitution.
    It is a striking and possibly fatal oversight of the Constitution of 1787. It's not as if one thousand years of English politics and law (the English Civil War, the beheading of Charles, Cromwell's dictatorship, &c.) was not known to Madison. Or to Benjamin Franklin, for that matter, who should have 'had a word' with the Committee before Article III was published.

    I love these interviews but I also find them so frustrating because so many Americans, including myself, saw what was happening in real time and predicted the way all of this played out months if not years before the so-called experts. Nothing that Trump did was surprising. None of it. I live within a few blocks of the Michigan state Capitol and decided to get a pistol license when I saw how nutty Michiganders were behaving at the mere suggestion that Trump might lose in 2020. There was a huge spike in licenses in this state during October 2020. That alone should have predicted some of the violence and division around the election.
    Further, anyone paying attention could have guessed the kinds of materials Trump would have removed from the Presidential papers to take to Mar-a-lago. He took mementos from world leaders and artifacts of ego and power. He doesn't plan on selling them or trading on them. They are porn for his overweaning ego. He always treated the Presidency like it was his person and not an institution. He has no interest in protecting the historical record because outside of his person, nothing else matters. I don't know why we spend so much time figuring him out. He is a simple, streamlined organism. Like a shark. It just eats, sleeps, and makes baby sharks. Trump must have attention, authority, and fawning admirers. That's it.
