  • Before we get started, these coincidences are not necessarily historically accurate. Their absurdity lends itself to storytelling and exaggeration even if the original story was very much true. In fact, you could even get well reputed historians to argue about the details in many of these cases. But keep in mind, this list isn't about what actually happened. It's about what people say actually happened (isn't all of history anecdotal? Something to think about...). And that can be hard to separate sometimes (just consider how often you've disagreed with your friends about things you had all seen with your own two eyes!) But we digress, these are 25 of the of the craziest historical coincidences you've ever heard!
25 Of The Craziest Historical Coincidences You’ve Ever Heard | List25
The Blockade Bummer - Hey, wait a minute...that looks like us.
Sister Act - Did you ever know that you're my hero?
Like father, like son - Dam that's coincidental.
Squanto and his perfect English - You guys already speak English? What a coincidence!
Ghost Pre-Con - Coincidentally, there are other video games I would've wanted to come true.
Lightning never strikes twice...or something like that - He had an attractive personality.
Seriously Joe? Stop walking under that window! - JOE! STAHP!
The Unsinkable Hugh Williams - I should name my first-born Hugh Williams.
Third time's a charm? - If at first you don't succeed...
The unfortunate inventor - Please stop inventing things. For the good of mankind.
The Jim twins - "Hi, my name's Jim. And you are..." "Also Jim."
Family drama - Let bygones be bygones.
King Umberto's double - The Prince (technically king) and the Pauper
The ultimate survivor - And he probably never traveled again.
    What? - I would've gone with Helluva-Good Burger (Oh...that's taken too?)
Titanic, the prequel - And no, not the history of Jack or Rose before they boarded.
The Lone Gunmen - I wonder what went through the minds of all those involved on the show.
Curse of Tamarlane - This historical coincidence reminds us why we should not open tombs!
November 9th - Remember remember the 9th of November...wait, that's not how it goes.
Violet Jessop - And she probably never set foot on another boat.
Lincoln/Kennedy - I wonder if Linkin Park and The Dead Kennedys have this much in common.
A revolutionary neighborhood - Did they ever run into one another?
Mark Twain - What cool event happened on the day you were born?
Adams & Jefferson - The original frenemies?
How a Syrian immigrant led to the creation of iPhones - I never met my birth father either, Steve. Coincidence...?

My granddad lied about his age in order to join the armed forces when he was 16. He ended up on the same ship on which his dad was a captain and his dad promptly sent him home as soon as they got to their destination, lol.

There's also the story about my granddad's older brother who (a couple of years later, during WWII) was on a ship that got torpedoed. He suffered a head wound and was flung from the ship...only to land in a lifeboat that was carrying his ship's doctor, lol. Due to the severity of his head injury, he would never have survived if he hadn't landed in that lifeboat. He spent the rest of his life with a very small piece of shrapnel in his brain that no surgeon could remove. He died at a ripe old age from unrelated causes.

I was adopted by my own Father. He had no idea as he had left my mother as soon as he found out she was pregnant. She couldn't afford to keep me, so she put me up for adoption. I remember receiving the test results to confirm who my biological parents were and I saw that my fathers name was there. Thinking it was some strange coincidence, I then saw that the person was born on the same day, and in the same place (27th of March, 1969 in Kolding, Denmark). I had lived in France my whole life (I was born in Denmark but as soon as I was adopted I moved), but I knew my father was Danish since he taught me Danish as well as French as a child. I remember showing the results to my dad and he spat his coffee out, dumbfounded. There are about 60 people in Denmark with our last name (it's German) so there was no way it was someone else. My dad was astounded to find out he had been raising his own son his whole life, and so was I. I remember meeting my mother for the first time, and she fainted. It was insane

For those of you curious as to why you haven't been seeing our videos in your subscriptions, this is because UA-cam changed the subscription mechanism. Now, if you want to be notified of new content from channels you are subscribed to, you have to make sure to click the "bell" next to the subscribe button (or where the subscribe button would have been if you are already subscribed to the channel).

Great video! I really enjoyed this format.
I have a story about my wife. Apparently we met before when we were involved in a minor fender bender. We both agreed not to claim it because the damage was not there except for minor paint chipping on the bumper on my car. 8 years later, I met her again and started dating her and got married couple years later. Then one night when i was telling her story about fender bender, she recalled the same story. The funny thing is, I've told her that I feel like I knew her all my life during my vowel and I meant it. Now that explains it lol

during the evacuation of Dunkirk, Charles Lightoller used his personal boat to rescue over 30 soldiers by having them stand shoulder to shoulder below deck, and more lie side by side above deck. The small boat had so many people on board it would have sunk from a single wave yet somehow survived and is now on display in the Ramsgate Maritime Museum. Lightoller had previously been famous only for being the Third Mate on the RMS Titanic

He was the highest ranking survivor of the Titanic, the served on the Oceanic until it was wrecked in 1914, was captain of the HMS Falcon when it sank in 1918 after colliding with another ship on escort duty. He died of heart disease after the Great Smog of 1952 hit London which killed thousands in London as depicted recently in the Netflix series The Crown.

#15 - Maybe not so anecdotal. I distinctly recall the article published in a magazine, like Life or something, about 15 or so years ago. They included photos of the two Jims, a full disclosure on the details of their lives, their homes, and even how they eventually met... when a friend of one of them noted that he'd seen Jim in another town a few days before, that this Jim had never visited. He was told by the friend "Then, you've got a double there." And they eventually investigated and discovered his twin brother, and the reuniting was amazing. In addition to the details you noted here, they even smoked the same brand of cigarettes.

The one about Lincoln and Kennedy blew me away with the fact that it's accurate and confirmed. My oldest brother told me about that just this past January. Now one of the questions that is brought to my mind with Andrew and Linden Johnsons, is "Was Andrew possibly Linden's grandfather?" another question is since Linden's mistress came out into the open saying that Linden hated Kennedy and had the most to gain by Kennedy's death and arranged it, "Is it possible that Andrew Johnson arranged Lincoln's death due to like Linden, having the most to gain?"

You missed Adolph Hitler serving in the US Navy during WWII. He wasn't the leader of Germany, but he had the same name.
The 1935 New York phone book contained 15 "Hitlers", the 1945 phone book contained zero. The name "Adolph" is banned in Germany.

Eric Taylor Possible do you mean "Germany", a country with full name 'Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR)' [engl. German Democratic Republic (GDR)]? They have had a curious history life - at this part now lives the most "Reichsbürger" and "Right-oriented People (Nazis, Rechte)". The DDR schools stop at 1st World War with history - jump direct to 1950 as the own state born of the old Sowitische Besatzungszone (SBZ) [Soviet part of Germany]. So they most citzens of this part of Germany do not know many about the Thirth Reich and spread many wrong information.

the Steve Jobs story is about 90% real (many variations of the story is out), my understanding is that Steve hired someone to write his bio and that person tracked down his Syrian farther (mother was white American divorced, she put up Steve Jobs for adaption) and found out he lived in Las Vegas and once managed that SF restaurant and he mentioned he met a lot of bif people including Steve Jobs. the writer never told either of them of their relationship. Steve Jobs also has a daughter that he denied having till he was about terminal and then changed his mind because he was very tight with money and though she wanted some, she wanted to have a farther to know she had one. Sadly here it is used as "no historical importance", like it's just an ancdote, a funny story, not a huge event that changed the world, since some stories are proven to be true, ie the Jim twins story,: he puts them as anecdotal.. I think it really is a bad use of this word especially when put against the meaning of "historial accuracy: confirmed"

Sutomu Yamaguchi is not unusual at all. Millions of people lived in each city. It would be VERY unusual if at least a couple thousand people didn't leave Hiroshima to stay with relatives or friends/associates in Nagasaki. The same goes for every other city. No matter what city got hit second, survivors from Hiroshima were very likely to be present.

Many years ago, I read that a US Navy blimp (they called them LTAs or lighter than air craft), had broken loose from its moorings and floated away. A freak accident, as the Navy didn't even have many blimps. What was really noteworthy is that it floated from the coast to a farm in the Dakotas and crashed/bumped into a farmer's house. The farmer was one of the few survivors of the Hindenburg disaster.

Here's one that will blow your mind. In Brooklyn, NY, in the late 50's or early 60s, an after school band formed. The drummer did not become famous, but the rest started out as Tom and Jerry, a singer named Barabara and another musician named Neil. They turned out to become, Simon & Garfunkel, Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond. True story as told by drummer Kenny Whert. He became a fine chef and was a good friend of mine.
