Think about this. The bad ending where they escape through the portal could lead to Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, while the true ending is the one that leads straight to Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. Both games are canon, just in different timelines.
That does not make any logical sense Crash and Coco still have to gather gems and relics and fight Cortex and Uka Uka again and Time Twisting Machine still implodes sending three villains back to the past so there’s two timelines yes they break out of time prison much earlier and don’t open a gateway that leads to multiverse and Quantum Masks don’t awaken and Dingodile has not retired from being evil this leads into Wrath of Cortex and Elementals are awoken the other timeline is they spend 22 years in time prison and spend 10 years trying to break out eventually they break out expose multiverse and leave Uka Uka behind and Cortex and N. Tropy build rift generator this awakens Quantum Masks and goes into Its About Time.

The incomplete ending would lead to them not being sealed away in the past, leading to Cortex creating Crunch (or finishing him as he was seemingly working on him since Crash 1) and the awakening of the Elementals. On the other timeline however, 22 years pass (for Cortex) until they break free. The creation of the quantum rift is what awakens the quantum masks. The elementals still exist in Crash 4, only dormant, and Crunch could still return, perhaps making an alternate Wrath of Cortex for Crash 5, but with the Quantum Masks involved too.
