    The Mud Family got a special treat at the 2020 Texas Mother Earth News Fair where we got to unbox our second Bulgarian Gamera Rocket Heater, the "Tiny" and fire it up with two of its tinyhouse cousins, the camp version of the Liberator from rocketheater.com (tell them Uncle Mud sent you) and our own versatile DIY CottageRocket.

      Which one? The Tiny Liberator is a custom order right now while they work on testing for their Gen 2 big one. The Gamera is also a custom order in several sizes. Feel free to email me at info@unclemud.com

    Are there any US sellers of this brand? Their main website lists €2,500 for even this “tiny III” model…

    • @UncleMud
      @UncleMud  Рік тому

      Nope. It is the best rocket heater for sale right now but it is not UL listed or EPA approved yet so you have to import one if you want it and shipping alone is almost $1000. They sell out in Europe though, they are that good.

      The Gamera is a beast. We love it, but the Liberator has its plusses, especially being UL listed and EPA certified to make your code people and insurance company happy. The Gamera is not UL safety tested or EPA approved in the US yet. It has the similar certifications in the EU but not here.

    if this is really tiny, does that mean it can be utilized on a sailing boat? we need a lightweight functional rocket mass water heater and stove/oven... all in one solution not larger than 20"x20"x30" height... with so much knowledge all around us, why hasnt anyone come up with a clean simple solution that works afloat? there are thousands of sailors waiting guys..... what are you waiting for?

      Thank you for watching. The part you are looking at is just the heater. An oven and storage mass take more space. A typical house requires a 3-5 ton mass to stay warm overnight. Water is a more capable storage mass per cubic foot but not efficient enough for a 20" by 20" by 30" mass to keep things warm over night. Water heating also tends to complicate a heater. If you have a small, well insulated cabin on your boat my smallest CottageRocket (18" diameter by about 30") filled with cob will still have a little warmth left in the mass in the morning. If you add a mass bench around the exhaust the space will stay warmer longer. We have installed these in a school bus and trailers and even a treehouse. I would be interested to learn more about the space you are trying to heat. you can email me at info@unclemud.com

      We will think about that idea. I like it. What temperatures of the water are You looking for? The water jacked should be after the oven. I would love to design it :)

    Where would I get the camp version of the liberator? I don't see it on the rocketheater site. Would it be big enough to heat a small 900 sq ft house? Can you add a pellet feeder to it?

      Hello, Thank you for watching. The camp version ended up being a one-off for me as a demo unit for the fairs. I got a full size demo unit for the fairs so the camp model is for sale. Drop me a line at info@unclemud.com if you are interested. It has a pellet feeder too. I think it could easily heat a well insulated small house.

      Hello, Thank you for watching. The tiny Liberator shown in these videos ended up being a one-off for me as a demo unit for the fairs. I got a full size demo unit for the fairs so the camp model is for sale. It works on pellets or wood scraps. It produces about 20,000 BTU per hour. Drop me a line at info@unclemud.com if you are interested. It easily heats a well insulated small house or shop so it might be enough for a tent.

    Won't this need to have more wood added about every 30mins to keep lit?

    • @UncleMud
      @UncleMud  Рік тому

      Yes it will. Any time you prolong a fire by damping down the air coming into a wood stove you lower the efficiency and create more unburned soot/creosote/smoke/pollution, so making the heater free breathing of small scrap wood means it needs to be fed often but it burns cleaner and makes more heat out of the same amount of fuel. To capture that heat that otherwise goes up the chimney with the smoke, a rocket heater gets plugged into a heat exchanger thermal mass (like a mud bench) that slowly releases it over night so you can stay warm without getting up every half hour. Thank you for watching.

    Hey there, Uncle Mud. I'm wondering if you think there is a way to safely beautify the outside of the Gamera with handmade tiles. And if so, any special requirements?
    Bulgaria is my second home, so I was especially thrilled to see you featuring these.

    • @UncleMud
      @UncleMud  Рік тому

      Nissa, The Gamera is a great heater. We have used hand made tiles on the mass bench and surround that store heat and slowly gently release it into the room over night but the metal radiant surface really needs to be bare to radiate quick heat into the room and the tiles would block that, possibly even overheating the metal. Lots of Rocket Heaters and masonry heaters are built with tile covered cob or stone or refractory instead of metal. Thank you for watching.

    • @TheRenaissanceMama
      @TheRenaissanceMama Рік тому

      @@UncleMud So maybe better to plan on using high heat-safe paint for something like that then? And save the tiles for the benches.

    • @UncleMud
      @UncleMud  Рік тому +1

      Glaze will handle high temps better than most high temp paints.

    • @UncleMud
      @UncleMud  Рік тому +1

      but covering the metal surface with tiles slows down the radiation so yes better to leave tiles for the mass bench.

    Can I use this stove without installing a cob?

    • @UncleMud
      @UncleMud  3 роки тому +5

      Yes. The mass, even just a few cubic feet of it, makes a big difference in keeping the temperature of a room more even and grabbing as much heat as possible from the exhaust before it leaves the house. We have developed mass storage for tiny houses and greenhouses where cob wouldn't work. But we have run these without the mass and it still burns cleaner and more efficiently than most woodstoves.

      The Baby Liberator is sadly no longer in production. If anyone wants to buy my demo unit email me at info@unclemud.com Fired twice for a demo $1200 including shipping. The full sized Liberator is the only one that is UL listed and EPA approved for code install in a regular house. That one is available at rocketmassheater.com/recommends/unclemud/ The Baby Gamera is the best heater here for a tiny house or school bus or off grid cottage if you build a thermal mass bench for it to store heat over night. The Tiny III is about $2000 with air freight plus a couple hundred import fees. You can email me for more information. We are working on US code approval. More Gamera videos here ua-cam.com/play/PL9A0Ic1oNN_9brlvx8ra6_HdnUV8r1v5k.html My CottageRocket is a DIY plans or kit or "come and build your own" I am developing in my spare time so it is slow but it is cheap (under $1000 DIY at my workshop, under $300 if you scrounged everything and did it yourself) It holds enough heat overnight for a small space due to being filled with cob mass. It is not UL listed or code approved but it burns clean and runs on cheap scrap wood. More CottageRocket videos here ua-cam.com/play/PL9A0Ic1oNN_9O6Y7hLbPsvZm-u0lq-xbl.html
