  • Tata Motors is all set to make a significant stride in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the impending launch of the Nexon and Nexon EV facelifts on September 14. This move is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Nexon EV lineup, marked by a revamped naming strategy and substantial cosmetic enhancements.
The Nexon EV, a key player in the electric SUV domain, currently offers two variants: Prime and Max. However, Tata Motors is poised to reshape the nomenclature for these models in a bid to align them with its broader EV portfolio. The upcoming facelift will introduce the Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) options, essentially succeeding the Prime and Max variants respectively.
In terms of appearance, the Nexon EV facelift is set to undergo notable cosmetic updates, ushering in a rejuvenated look. What’s particularly interesting is that the trim designations are poised to mirror those of the conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) Nexon, establishing a cohesive nomenclature across the lineup. This strategic naming overhaul will not only simplify the lineup for customers but also reflect Tata Motors’ commitment to a unified product identity.
Crucially, while the Nexon EV is receiving a visual makeover, it is expected to retain its existing mechanical configuration. This means that the heart of the EV, its battery and electric powertrain, will remain unaltered. The MR variant of the Nexon EV will continue to feature the 30.2kWh battery, which boasts an impressive ARAI-certified range of 312km. On the other hand, the LR variant will house a larger 40.5kWh battery that promises a commendable range of 453km (MIDC). This battery upgrade is set to provide consumers with greater confidence in the Nexon EV’s capabilities, potentially erasing concerns about range anxiety.
Powering both the MR and LR variants will be a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The MR variant is projected to deliver outputs of 129hp and a torque of 245Nm, while the LR variant is anticipated to provide a more potent performance with 143hp and 250Nm of torque. This ensures that Tata Motors continues to deliver an exhilarating driving experience synonymous with its brand.
The new trim structure will encompass the Smart, Pure, Creative, and Fearless variants. While the exact distribution between MR and LR options remains undisclosed, this diversification caters to a broader audience and their varying preferences. Additionally, each of these core trims is expected to offer optional packages, denoted by a ‘+”‘ suffix. This approach allows customers to personalize their Nexon EV according to their specific requirements and desires.
Inside the cabin, the Nexon EV facelift is predicted to maintain uniformity with its ICE counterpart, promising a comprehensive set of features. The range-topping Nexon EV Long Range Fearless+ variant is projected to be loaded with amenities such as a generous 10.25-inch touchscreen, a futuristic full-digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera for enhanced safety, front parking sensors, touch-sensitive climate controls, premium leatherette upholstery, and even ventilated front seats. This blend of advanced technology and opulent comfort underscores Tata Motors’ commitment to offering a holistic driving experience.
As Tata Motors prepares to unveil the facelifted Nexon and Nexon EV, it’s clear that the company aims to reinforce its position in the EV landscape. The competitive rivalry with the Mahindra XUV400 EV is anticipated to persist, but Tata Motors appears primed to take on the challenge with its upgraded Nexon EV lineup. While prices are expected to reflect the substantial improvements in features and design, Tata Motors’ endeavors emphasize its dedication to embracing the electric future while providing customers with a compelling and well-rounded electric SUV option
