He’s not wrong about rent controlled apartments being generational. My grandfather’s brother got a rent controlled apartment in Harlem in the 70s. It’s passed through 3 generations of my cousins now and they’re still living in it!

@@PrideDefiler They're rent controlled, so... not much they can do? Nobody wants to buy it, can't legally raise the rent: You'd have to tear it down to do something else with the property, which you don't have the money (or potentially zoning permission) to do.
Also, rent control has only been around for about 50 years this point.
That’s why there’s the Ellis Act in California. It’s a nuclear option for landlords who have had enough and want their building back.

My sister recently asked why I don't move out of my rent-controlled apartment. I borrowed a few lines from Jimmy's show and she had a look on her face like I was crazy and my brother-in-law couldn't stop laughing.😂 In all seriousness, in addition to saving 10% of your income for retirement, save the difference between your rent and the mortgage you could afford if you were to buy a house or condo.🤑
It depends on where you live, if you live in a nice place like Texas, you can afford a house with ease, if you live in California, you can't afford to live off Kale...
While it definitely depends on where you live and what income you have, there can be benefits to buying a house
When you rent, you are buying a product (in this case, a place to live) so the money you spend is just gone, you don’t get it back
Meanwhile, houses generally stay stable in value (some locations go up, most massive depreciation only happens when something big happens, like a natural disaster or a shipping port closing down, on the whole, house prices in the US increase at the same rate as inflation) so while you probably won’t make a profit unless you are really knowledgeable about these things (or lucky) you get that money back when you sell
House is 80K? And you’ve spent a total of 20K in mortgage? If you sell it for 80K, you pay the remaining mortgage back to the bank and get that 20k back
Again, this isn’t for everyone, when you own a house you are financially responsible for any repairs or maintenance cost, you don’t have to worry about that with renting
But even if your rent is far less than a mortgage would be, in most cases the mortgage is money you will get back from selling the house and moving to a retirement villa when you get older

About 2 years ago the guy 2 rooms down in on my floor died. For about a week and a half the hallway past his apartment smelled of the most foul sour shit smell imaginable. Sure enough he died in the kitchen right in front of his door. Poor bastard. I still dont know if the new couple knows someone died in their unit
Eh, it's kind of common enough, when you think about it. Most people die in their homes, if they are lucky (better that than in a hospital bed).

it's a bit difficult to find out what came first, Cam Bertrand's skit was on 10/27/19, but Jimmy's special aired in early 2020. I think it's more plausible that Cam, being a small comedian, copied from Jimmy.

Ironically the apartment building I live in is right next to a cemetery facing my window.
I had a ghost followed my family from from two apartments ~250 miles apart. The weird thing is that the ghost was always sitting on my bed in my bedroom at these two units. She was always looking outside the window when I walked past the room. I never told anyone this story until recently. Fast forward 20 years (I'm 27 now), my sister and I recently talked about our childhood and believe it or not, we both saw the same ghost girl. In her story, the ghost, again, was always on my bed. That is all.
At best, i’ve only got one ghost story. Playing hide and seek when i was younger when suddenly i saw someone’s shadow walk past my door. It was only two people in our apartment at the time and neither of us were walking. 2nd floor so no one’s shadow from outside could have been the cause.
Not really ghost story, or at least i don’t think so, but out backdoor will slam itself shut a mInute or two after closing front door. A bit rare, but often enough to happen a couple times every couple of months.
Good god! Your ordeal is worse than mine. I never saw them, but would hear them pound on my bedroom door, running around my house, and laughing. If my husband & I ever move, which is something I'd love to do, I don't know if they'd follow me and my husband. I don't hear them anymore though. It stopped after six months of owning our house. I did take a picture of my backyard once & I saw a little girl with no eyes in the pic. My next door neighbors have seen it and a man too in their house. The dead girl tried to lure their 5 year daughter into the pool & the ghost man would harass the oldest son. They probably died in the surrounding area decades ago.
If it followed your family, maybe its attached to an item you guys had, or a family member. They usually only stay in one place.
