I attended the wedding of my wife's friend whose fiance is a C.A and asked for a car in dowry.
So she had to take car loan and when the groom's family saw the car, they said "itni choti si car, humne toh badi expect ki thi" and the car was then placed as a display with the ribbons and plastic cover still intact at the entrance of wedding hall.
Then there was that rasam where the bride's sisters, friends etc ask money from the groom in order to enter the hall called "shagun" and they were asking for some 10-15k and he gave 1k something saying that they don't believe in this len-den and then my wife shouted "toh car kyun maangi thi" and the groom's face turned red in shame.
Later during the "joota churana" rasam, bride's sister had the groom's shoes and he wasn't coming out of the wedding hall, he sent his friends outside to negotiate but the sister wasn't budging from 20k as she didn't get her "shagun" earlier.
This thing went on for 40-60 mins, the groom's side brought in every argument like these all are bollywood modern rituals, aap log modern follow karte ho old traditions bhi kuch follow kar lo etc.
And finally the groom came outside literally crying, saying "mujhe bus joote chahiye yaar" and the bride's sister saying mera haqq hai ek hi toh sister hai baad mein toh nahi milega and in anger she threw the shoes on floor.
This angered the groom's jija and friends and they came to fight the girl.
And then the groom's drunk dad comes, throws cash onto the girl saying yeh le paisa chahiye na yeh le paise ki koi kami nahi hai humare paas (dowry wali car still at display)
Finally the bride's dad picked up the shoes and went to the groom and gave him to wear.
All this while the bride was like jaldi khatam karo yaar..
And now we see daily Whatsapp status update of lovey dovey pictures of the couple.
This was an emotional rollercoaster to read.
Omg. How badly I hope you're making this up. Nobody deserves this. Really marriage is a sham. And the rituals are even bigger.

Update : So now they're married for around 4 months
They've been to their honeymoon inspite of covid-19 situation (because husband had already booked flights and hotels, so money > health) 🙄
@@RythmGkwd lol. Well, I can only wish the couple more tolerance and blissful alienation from their relatives. Imagine how chaotic it would be during lockdown. Good that they left for their honeymoon.
