This episode reminds me of a prank some friends of mine pulled when I was in high school back in the late 1950s. One of my friend's father owned a black, 4-door Cadillac, and these friends created a crude, wooden casket... they put the casket on top of the car, then strapped it down. Then four of them got dressed up in dark suits, and drove to a number of gas stations. When they pulled into a gas station, they said to the attendant, "Could you tell us where the nearest cemetery is?"
Thumbsing this up, just for the dazed and confused and cheech and chong part. 😂 that made me laugh so hard. Something i havent done at a video in a while.
The car has 172k miles on it. It won’t be economical to replace it. If it’s leaking now, it’s not enough to worry about. In order to repair it correctly would require an engine rebuild. I’ll make that decision when I need to.
My grandmother's my grandmother's husband Lee (my stepgrandpa) used to own some funeral homes. He had an late sixties or early seventies Oldsmobile 98 hearse. Friendzone personal vehicle he got a 1973 Olds Delta 88 with every single option. The FM radio was more expensive than the 455 cubic inch engine option. After he ordered the car, he passed away and they tried to cancel the order on my grandmother. She insisted that she still wanted the car. It had stayed in the family until it was turned into a pile of rust by another family member.
ROFL!!! Nice! Oh - LT1!!! Got a couple minor leaks, should be quick to fix. Aside from the PIA job it was to service the Optispark system, I really liked the LT1.
The Original Nightmare on Elm Street is my Fav Thriller. My Cousin won free tickets from the radio station. My brother had just got his 1st car (an AMC Gremlin) and drove the three of us 15 miles to town to watch it. It scared my cousin 1/2 to death. My brother and I almost got kicked out for laughing so loud.
When you stop to think about it, a hearse is basically an enclosed station wagon that could be converted into a camper, but I guess people don’t do that cause a used hearse gives people the creeps.
V R When I was young we road around smoking pot in a hearse a buddy had. It was like a 1968. We never got pulled over. Cops didn’t want to deal with a bunch of weird kids cruising around in an old hearse I guess.
@Lexington & Concord I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE! In my humble opinion, the only Cadillac left for the coachbuilders to work with and still afford ANY semblance of dignity to the departed would have to be the Escalade EXT. (... or not. I’ll check back in a couple of days to see how many thumbs down I get for even thinking this.)
My uncle bought a hearse, casket and all. When we were in Elementary school he would drive it there on Halloween and the school would allow the kids to line up and lay in the casket. The best part was when he would shut the lid on them. lmfao. Ah the good ol days. 😊
Z N Definitely better steering and handling (they were newer) the older ones had that old man floaty feel and super light steering.. you can only push limos and hearses so much in the city lol ..but the northstars felt stronger to me 🤷🏻♂️
Never drove a funeral coach but driven a few caddys. My brothers 05 North Star, as unreliable as it was, it was a hell of a smooth ride! Although not a lt1, the 4.9 was nowhere near the 4.6!
I had a 1947 Buick hearse when I was in high school. You will find this hard to believe, but the parents were not at all happy with having it parked in front of the house.
Amazing “acting”. Please note, the sarcasm. It’s certainly a beautiful Cadillac. Why don’t you all (Americans) ever consider non-American hearses? Besides that... Hearses in the rest of the world have windows in the back so that loved ones, and others, can view the casket ($$$) while in transport.... not hide the casket. Thanks for another crazy, yet interesting, video.
Kellington Link, we have “limo” style hearse that do the same thing with windows all the way around. As far as using foreign cars for hearses, there are a few funeral homes in the states that do. They’re rare because of the expense to have them built and then shipped overseas to our shores. Also, the manufacturers have to be considered for the “Master Coachbuilder” designation by hearse builders. That designation is only given to US auto makers.
Great points. And by the way... I do love what Cadillac’s have always looked like.... even as hearses. After all ... if you were being transported in an E-class MB wagon (like Tyler’s), the car would probably break down!
I still mourn the loss of my friend's 72 Caddy hearse. 472, th400, and bigger than big. He traded a 200 dollar bass guitar for it back in 2004 and drove it to Cali with his girl friend. I wanted to buy it, but the cards were not in my favor.
Back in the early 70’s my hippie sister dated a guy who drove a hearse that had an actual coffin in the back. My father was not happy when that guy showed up to pick her up. As a teen I thought it was pretty cool!😂
Finally somebody else praising my favorite car from the last 20 years...my Fleetwood had a traction control button in the glove box that if you turned it off the car would lay patch down half a city block....do they all have this?
I own a '94 Buick Roadmaster wagon. I can vouch that the LT1 is punchy! Definitely could use more horsepower but for the torque that it has it'll throw you in your seat.
You can always do the aluminum head and 'vette intake mod. Downside of course is having aluminum heads on a cast iron block. Apprently you can also do a legal disabling of the smog pump, it was later determined that it wasn't necessary so there's a sticker to apply to the radiator core support plus removing the belt. My biggest concern is ruining the optispark if the waterpump ever goes. Wondering if an electric water pump might be a little safer, plus then the snout off of the front of the cam that drives it could be sealed up.
@@TWX1138 I'm not too worried about the optispark. Its not a bad job, just time consuming and costs abit. But if I'm in that far might as well do plug wires and front pan seal. For now it'll be long tube headers, spark plugs and airfoil and a pcm tune. I do plan on running 3.73s but would feel comfortable with a shop doing that bit.
@@TWX1138 there's no belt on the 94-96's. Its an electric pump. But it works so i don't have a need to remove it.. yet. I'd like to keep it as close to original as possible in a sense. I mean they are climbing in value and finding one in rust free original shape is getting harder to find.
Thank you car wizard for showing a hearse. Love it!!!! Please keep up the good work. P.S. what do you think of Scotty kilmirer. I really like his channel!!
Didn't know they kept the steel wheels/hubcaps on commerical chassis Cadillacs, figured they would have had the 15" alloys like all the civilian model 93-96 Fleetwoods. Its funny because that wheel cover is the base wheelcover from a late 80's Brougham and it looks IMO a million times better than the factory alloys. I'd also have a look at those tires and make sure they are load rated for the weight of that hearse.
I swapped the commercial alloys for the commercial steelies just so I could run those wheel covers. Those came from a '93 Superior 6-door limo with the Brougham package. The tires are Extra Load tires since I still use it for its intended purpose on occasion.
@@patfink9557 Yeah I used to own a 1995 Fleetwood, metal top, bright red/tan leather. Had to ditch those 15" lace alloys, went with the ubiqutous 17" Impala SS 5 spokes, since it was already a "sporty"(lol) looking Cadillac. I've owned 3 94 Cadillac Fleetwood's and one of them was a hearse I used to haul band gear around to gigs. I think they are great cars and definitely last of the true Cadillacs!

On tonight's episode of Unsolved Mysteries, we explore why the is CAR WIZARD in caps, but Hoovie is not?
Hoovies Garage Not anymore. Fixed!!
Car wizard is in caps in every video description. Just habit.
Would you say it's the wizards fault?
It probably could be the cheapest 94-96 hearse. 400 bodies is kinda an undershot though.
You're so pretty lol

Well he is a dad after all.
A "casket" is rectangular. A true "coffin" is polygonal, bulged out at the sides for your arms.
The scary part is when the owner gets the repair estimate.
Nope. To have the stabilizer replaced, the throttle body rebuilt to fix a coolant leak and an oil change/top off= $275.00
Don't forget the rear main seal, that is going to cost a lot!

Brett Drew, I have been to Hearsefest the last 3 years. I drive up from South Carolina.
I knew something was up when I saw MORNINGSIDE in the back window - I'm pretty sure that's the hearse from the Phantasm movies
The iron head lt1 in that hearse is pretty much a basic sbc with a wonky distributor. The Corvette lt1 had aluminum heads and a different intake
