British OO gauge freight duties cab ride tour with onboard camera

- A just under 30 minute OO gauge British model railway on board cab ride tour of freight allocated duties. This involves Class 47 001 picking empty presflo cement wagons from sidings around 3 miles away and them taking them to Westbury cement plant works where the wagons will be filled. This involved various coupling and uncoupling procedures and also shunting duties provided by a Class 14 teddy bear shunter with on board camera running around the works to provide the various duties. Once completed the train will run back fully loaded on the mainline to deliver to the customer 72 miles away. Enjoy! Watch out for the bonus out takes at the end of this video!

Thanks Darrell, I was about to text you. Yes took nearly a week to produce this! Much easier to work with someone else at the controls as regards filming. He has got the hang of this! Did you see the outtakes at the end. A huge spider is visiting regularly!

Thank you for the kind comments and thanks for watching. The sound file for the Class 47 is from South West Digital SWD. The model is a Bachmann one I bought around 3/4 years ago. 47 001.

Brilliant, I love those dark grey retaining walls and the class 14 in the works.
Thanks, Wanted to go for the dirty worn industrial look on the walls. The class 14 has gone through some modifications recently. It used to run really poor which is an issue with this model apparently looking at forums. I had the sound decoder changed to You choos, pick ups on all six wheels and of course flashing amber lights installed on the roof for industrial use. Many thanks Richard.
At 5:55, the signal clears BEFORE the points change! I've never seen that before.
I do like the level of weathering on your layout. A most suitable level of grime and undergrowth for a British 80s railway scene.

Thank you. I got Liam my daughters other half to operate not just the trains but points and signals as well. It’s a lot easier to film whilst someone else is controlling. Obviously we worked to a scheduled script. Cheers Richard.
Fantastic Richard. I love to see a model railway that actually has a purpose and particularly when it involves shunting. I have just retired 3 weeks ago after 42 years in rail mostly as a shunter and this was just brilliant. I would be interested in a video of the wagons being placed in the siding on the outside siding. Love the work you have done and you may be interested to know that in Queensland, Australia we use the same types of signals as our system came from Britain. Even down to the 3 aspect Position Light signals, 4 aspect signals on the quadrupled sections and multi position Route indicators (lunar lights) and also some Theatre Boxes. I really like your layout and hope you will do more of these videos.
Would have been nice if you could have re-built the outside section but I guess you need the budget to do it.

Many thanks from watching from Aus! The outside section of the layout was damaged during a storm early this year. As well as that the fence it was attached to was rotten and had to be replaced. So I had to dismantle the rest of the outside section. To be honest it’s not the budget but the maintenance of the outside section. Can take hours before running one single train! Cheers Richard.
@@CHESEABUN Hi Richard, yes I knew about the storm and fence needing to be replaced from a previous video. I think I have watched all of your Ballan Parkway videos. I have heard that outside layouts require a lot of maintenance before a session. But I also think your inside running is good as well.
Just a question about your main station; is there no way to actually run around a train via the other platforms? I must admit I have not seen any cross-overs so I guess the answer will be no. But the interesting thing about you running around a circle is that in Brisbane we actually have a circle that goes through 5 stations and when I shunted at Roma Street Station which was the main station on the circle we had to sometimes send trains right around the circle to access a different part of the yard. On occasion the signalman would forget to set up the route for a train to come into the yard and the train would have go around the circle. So there is at least one prototypical situation you have covered. Looking forward to the next video.

Excellent video. I love how you have the operating Shunt Signals. Is that a working semaphore at Tackley End? It always is in the off position (Go)
It is indeed a working semaphore signal. I am having problems with the infrared train detector for its operation.it does not seem to detect a passing train anymore. I need to clean or replace the sensor. The actual signal is fine.

@@johnhopkinson695 Similar move. I came down with my Parents .At first took me a couple of years to adjust and didn’t feel at home but after a few years eventually felt home. North and South culture changes I think? It takes time to establish new friends etc. And of course met my wife down here two years after moving. I used to work at Kitchen creation in Sheepbridge not far from Unstone. I believe the company folded eventually? I do visit Derbyshire from time to time but not as much now. I think it’s due another visit soon and there is talk of a few of us going to Barrow Hill next year? Where abouts in Kent are you? Have a couple of customers for the work I do over there.
