If he's playing 9 minutes against Kazakhstan, there's probably some other factor at play. If I'm coaching the team in that situation, I'm just rolling four lines, and I'm giving power play time to, like, the worst players on the team. (Although I suppose there could be an argument that if you coach that way, you risk unfocusing the team, which could cost them when facing stronger competition.)
This is a big-time moment in Zegras’s career right now, all this controversy, all the hate, all these rumors, the injuries, lack of production. This is a real character test moment. We all know what he’s capable of and know what he can be, and I really think that this off-season he’ll have some thinking, and some searching to do and decide if he wants to really blossom and be that player.
Maybe Cronin needs to lay off the defense training on Zegras and let him focus on his natural offensive abilities. It's like when the Angels tried to change Ohtanis batting style and he crashed so they let him go back to his natural play style and he was back to killing it.
YES! To many centers w Cutter coming now, move him to wing permantely and stop worrying bout his D, as long as he cuts out the stupid penatlies, let the offensive guy fly.
Some guys thrive in that younger set, little brother type of vibe. With Getzlaf around, Z was in his perfect type of spot within the his role in the room. Now he's being looked at to lead and be the kind of guy that Getzlaf was and he's just not wired that way. They need to get a leader in that room with a Ring and some bark to his game so hat all the personalities can fall in line. If I am the GM in Anaheim I am calling Calgary and offering LW Max Jones+D Urho Vaakaanainen+2024 2nd/Bos+2025 5th/EDM in exchange for C Name Kadri + LW Parker Bell.
@@duckmylife Eventually for sure, people forget, in the case of Getzlaf, he and Perry were both the annoying little brothers for longer stint than Z. I mean, just shooting off the top of my head here, but Getz got to play under Andy McDonald. I wanna say Doug Weight, plus Sami Pahlsson was picking up all the shutdown duty. I don't think Getz and Federov had any overlap, but it wasn't more than a couple seasons before he had a vet in Saku Koivu to help with the heavy lifting in the leadership department. If anything, it seem like they let him slow roast into the leadership role to the tune of about a half a decade at the Pro Level alongside Hall of Famers rather than fellow youngsters....
@fritzthecatdz7dv telling me you think Kadri, who reportedly wants out, will net more than a 2nd, a 5th, a 4-5-6 defenseman and a middle 6 winger…? I mean, it’s an opening offer. Maybe they toss in a 3rd to make it work but then you’re starting to dance in the retained salary pool which Calgary has shown to have zero interest in doing.
It baffles me how this US team doesnt have Matty Beniers, Clayton Keller or even AM34. Tavares made it to the Canadian squad so one can only wonder why no Mathews
I’m just not big on Zegras. I want to be, but there’s just something about him that doesn’t jive. If we traded him for someone else equivalent I would consider that a win. Maybe it’s just with the injuries and the attitude idk. Maybe after next season I’ll feel different.
They had like 1 good shift in their limited shifts together. I will say tho that on the Powerplay. In Zegras’s limited #1 unit time, he really helped Cole out. The 1st powerplay looked much better with Z on it.
I said he has been solid defensively. He looked like he had all season on that end, much improved. He has been great on breakouts. His play in the neutral, tho hasn't looked very good. Lots of turnovers in that area.
@@duckmylife sorry, get over zealous and comment as soon as a question hits. Should have given you a few more moments. As long as he is doing that with hustle Ala Wyatt Johnston/Logan Stankhoven. Zegras needs a strong off season to develop skills and get the wind back in his sails. It seems like he’s going through the motions right now. Maybe he needs to time off, rest, and golf to refocus
Only 9 mins? Sure point wise is not great however he looked great on the forecheck sure mistakes here and there like every player has but honestly though he looked decent from what I've seen. But that "no name goalie" as Toronto Sun have said..Dostal looks like he's ready to be our #1 starter. Also I was blocked from Toronto Sun on Twitter lol because I mentioned Dostal.😅😂
This game was his least toi yet. He had been averaging around 13 to 15 min before. He also has been solid defensively, but something just seems off. Haha, Dosty 🔥
It is like asking Wayne Gretzky to play on the third line..he is better when the game is fun...and it isn't.... so sad to see. He may need to go to a team who appreciates him
I mean, what he has done in the previous two seasons (prior to this year) pointwise-only Getzlaf, Kariya, and Perry have done. I would say that's elite company...
@craigharrison5406 You kinda just disproved your point, haha. He scored 60 plus points on some of the worst teams in NHL history...it's no secret how bad the Ducks have been.
He should play more than 9 minutes against weaker competition
This was the lowest toi for both Cole & Z, which is interesting cause this has been the worst team they've played yet...

If Beeker could get that deal done, that would be insane.

Matthews was having health problems with the leafs during playoffs. Keller is moving 😅 Idk about Beniers, haha
They have to actually want to play. They have a choice.

I think z and cole should be on the same line so they can have some cemestry

Yeah
It's the Ducks that are paying for Z's trips to Chipotle, so he should've rested that ankle instead of being in the tournament.
He looked completely healthy at the end of the season, and it looked like he was gonna have a big impact for the US. Just can't seem to find his game.
But how did he play in the other 2/3rds of the ice? I havent been able to watch?

You're good! I appreciate you commenting 🥰 He is definitely showing effort on the defensive end.
Michkov vs Cutter for the Calder next year
👀
Is Michkov even going to be in the league next year?
You will have to realistically add Zellweger and Celebrini to that short list.... "If" Michkov does indeed play.

Play hard.

Z need spend off season getting bigger stronger

2:20 lmao neither of those would’ve been penalized in playoff hockey
Most likely not, but he did leave his feet.

Necas to the ducks???
There are rumors going around Ducks nation, but just a joke haha
