I was in Sheryn’s Sherynly college campus concert and in her mall show after her stint in Star in a Million. She sang well but crowd wasn’t very much impressed. So did I. I was also in Mori’s Made in Cebu Concert. She was extraordinary! She was all out in her performances. The crowd had gone crazy. I am always a proud Cebuano like them. But Mori’s thick voice ( even when she was just in elementary) over the other’s thin voice sets the difference for me. And I was a witness to how passionate Mori is when she volunteered to perform in school activities for free. This girl is always my number one. (FYI: I already got a hug from her when she was in high school.) Whatever she has become, that hug reminds me of how humble this amazing artist is.

What I observed in Sheryn’s version some of the part are reserved / holding back for preparation for her big high notes while Morissette version has so much power all out.

"Gusto ko ng bumitaw" means No hope and she wants to End "Ngunit ayaw pa ng puso" But the heart feels there is Hope and Fighting which mori Interpreted the whole lyrics through her Voice while Sheryn focus only to "Gusto ko ng Bumitaw" the soft side while Mori Both soft side and a Fighter. Sheryn and Mori are two of the power belters of the Philippines, although they are not "batchmates", Sheryn is 42, Mori is 26. They have their own style, and both contributed to the OPM industry. Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw was co-written by Jonathan Manalo, "Mr. Music", who has written many songs used for Philippine teledrama series and were interpreted by many of the best singers, who is celebrating his 20th year in the music industry, and this show was a tribute to him. It was held at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre in Manila, not in ASAP Natin 'To stage, but it was an ABS-CBN production that's why the setup looks familiar to you. Sheryn and another songwriter are the co-writers of GKNB, and Sheryn was the original singer.
When ABS produced The Broken Marriage Vow, they chose Mori to do a rendition of the song (there are four other songs in the OST, sung by other FIlipina artists Angeline Quinto, Jona, Kyla, and Gigi de Llana and also Fana).
The rendition of GKNB by Mori (I call it a rendition and not a cover because even Star Music and ABS didn't call it a cover) became a hit and viral and the various videos made for it have now reached millions of views each, and is even awarded in the Asian Creative Academy Awards. ❤️

Just to let you know SHERYN REGIS is the original singer of the song "gusto ko ng bumitaw" written by HER and jonathan manalo and that performance is for his (jonathan manalo's) 20th year aniversary concert as a songwriter in the Philippine music industry.
Even though its Sheryn's own song but I think this song fits well in Morissette voice and she own it...Sheryn is good but the song is getting better when morissette deliver it.
This was actually during the concert of Jonathan Manalo, the composer of that song. And all of his popular songs were sung that night, that includes this song which was popularized recently by Morissette and was originally sung by Sheryn, thus this duet. A lot of mainstream singers were also present and sang their respective songs by Jonathan Manalo.

This is Sheryn's original song and composiion at hindi niya pinababa ang kanta kc ganyan tlaga ang original na key niya at hindi nia kailangan bagohin un dahil siya ang orig. For me, the factor you are looking for that you can't see from Sheryn's performance is stage presence/charisma and resonance in hitting high notes that's why we love her because of these factors.
Recently, I've been listening to Philippine singers on yt. Personally, I think Sheryn, the original singer, tells a story, while Merisette, on the other hand, is performing. They both have their own unique attributes to their musical style. I don't understand why people are dissing each other over who's better.
Its that morisette brings in modern texture in the way she sings and her diction is amazing. Every syllable of the phrase “gus-to-ko-nang-bu-mi-taw” had power yet so clear.

Hi Ovela, I saw other reactions and I think they nailed it when they say Mori and Sherly delivered it in different ways. If you know the translation of the song, Mori's delivery has hope, still has fight left in her, whereas Sheryl's delivery is more defeated at the point of giving up. Both emotional and powerful, but it boils down to where they are coming from when they sing this song. Amazing duet!
Mori, Jona, and Sheryn are the *ONLY* Filipina singers who have amazing vocal agility. Their words are very clear. Doesn't sound screechy and irksome. Never fails to deliver sufficient, sustain, straight high notes.
