@@TheHomeExpert5 well the thing is is that the concept was more for the LC500 than it was for the mk5. The mk5 was mainly based off the 2000gt and practically fits the description. It's got a short wheelbase, long front end, short rear, dip in its roof, rwd, and i6 powered just like the 2000gt is. So more in the lines it may look like the concept but it did a better job on what it was actually based off of.

I'm the owner of a series 1 1970 240Z that belonged to my dad for 47 years before he passed away. I kinda just grew up with the 240Z as my basis of what the Z car was. This newest prototype is a good homage to that original car in a way that Toyota completely missed the mark on. I'm glad Nissan is trying and I'm glad there's a manual. If I were to get a new sports car in the near future, it would be the 400Z, no doubt about it.

While I love the new C8 Corvette, it doesn't offer a manual. I understand that the typical Corvette driver is a retired person who isn't going to be doing track days, but rather grocery-getting. Because of that, and the performance advantage of the DCT, it only makes sense. Unfortunately, when it comes to sports cars, I'm not sensible. No manual available may be a deal breaker for me. The new Z is sounding quite appealing, as long as it doesn't exceed $45,000 by too much. Considering the potential performance capabilities that would seem reasonable. But I'm no expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

The new Z is heavily based on the 370z underneath all the bodywork and the engine is from the Infiniti Q50/Q60 Red Sport. Not much development really happened versus the Supra which was codeveloped by Beemer and Toyota to make a completely new small sports car chassis. Toyota cheaped out by not coming up with their own engine but picked one of the best modern I6s. Nissan went cheaper and only did the exterior and some suspension tuning ala ironically Toyota and the "new" IS/Altezza.

Love love love this car please please please don't listen to all the people talking about how they don't like the squared off front facia. That is absolutely the best part of the whole car. Number one it just looks amazing which I get it is subjective. However what's not subjective is that with such a wide open area in the front like that it is absolutely an aftermarket tuners dream. After all the reason we are still talking about Z cars today is because of their popularity within the aftermarket community. Making something with a huge open front mouth will allow for those huge front mount intercoolers that will allow tons of cooling and tons of power. I could not be more in love with the look of this car you guys knocked it out of the park. I was never a fan of the 370 line, the round bubble shapes have never really been my thing. But the clean yet aggressive lines of this car with all the nods to past Z cars has really come together into something awe inspiring. I'll be saving my pennies and hoping that this car is exactly what you go with for production.

Ooh yeah. It's high time we got a new RX series. Preferably one that isn't rubbish. A modern take on one of the earlier RX cars, with a rotary/hybrid drivetrain (done like a hypercar style, i.e. for ultimate power, not another boring EV) . That'd be cool. RX4 would probably be my choice, but any of them except the RX5 would be cool. Cosmo, Capella, RX2, RX3, RX4, even the series 1 RX7. They're all pretty cool little cars.
I know there's that RX concept thing that's supposedly being developed with the rotary engine as a "range extender" (lame), but a proper tribute to the earlier RX cars would be a lot cooler imho. They're supposed to be sports cars for Pete's sake, not electric shopping trolleys.
Oh, and they'll have to ditch that godawful hideous grill design that Mazda seems to love so much on their cars these days. It's becoming almost as much of a laughing stock as the BMW "kidneys". Ugh.

Yes please T TOPS! I dont need complicated. Manual trans, a nice compromise between handling and compliance when it comes to suspension geometry, android auto integration and a limited slip differential. Oh and T TOPS... did I mention T TOPS? I'm most certain a majority of this car will be parts bin. So I can't forsee it being over 50. If they price it right in that 40 for base to say 46 fully loaded this will sell and sell big.

Dynamically the Supra is a faultless car that resides in the tiier one step below the Super Cars all the while priced in the mid 50's. Traps well above 110 mph, world class brakes, chassis that can modulate attitude seamlessly and its relatively light. It has a world-class torque-converted automatic and the exterior styling is unique. Still, if the Proto can provide something unique bringing it into the 3.0L turbo party with a touch of balance yet ferocity coupled by a surprise (no weight gain or a faultless manual transmission) then it will outsell the Supra based on the perception that it was developed in house.

As a former Z32 owner, I absolutely loved how all or most of the controls were writhing finger reach of the steering wheel. Promoting keeping you attention on driving and enjoying the drive. I’d really like to see that kind of quality and thought of function in the new zed. That, the automatic transmission and the fact that it just didn’t feel like a Z, were the reasons I didn’t purchase a 350 or 370.... I like the overall design of this new one. I hope Nissan’s able to hit it out of the park again. Oh, and all wheel drive would be killer!

Things I want Nissan to fix..
    1. Fix the squarish grill
    2. Please dont use the CSC from the 370Z trans.. it's absolutely shit
    3. Have a more aggressive exhaust note that is louder than a family car
    4. Fix seat reclining system.. those knobs to adjust incline is aweful
    5. It's not a fix.. but please keep those GTR breakes.

    • @patc8653
      @patc8653 3 роки тому

@Nissan370Z Glass I had the Akebono brakes with aftermarket pads and 2 piece rotors on my 370Z.. they were okay for the track when I was barley pushing 400ish whp. But they were under performing as soon as I was in the +500whp. Anyways I don't expect GTR brakes to come standard on base models.. but I would be more than willing to pay extra for GTR brakes. Since the new Z will be boosted.. having really good brakes will be one less thing to worry about for those that will be pushing +500whp.

And...as an ‘84 Anniversary Edition owner, I can only disagree about the analog tach. I love the three analog gauge cluster, but I want (please Alfonso) a fully digital interior, or at least on option for one. Finally, the customization you speak of is HUGE! This should carry over into a customizable digital gauge cluster. Perhaps one that I can make look like, I don’t know, an ‘84 Anniversary Edition Z, or maybe that’s just me.

Z has always been an enthusiast car and really launched nissan/infiniti at sport category in early 2000.
Keep it simple, self-serviceable, and cut back on electronics that eventually cost a fortune to replace.
I'd also be mindful of the oil cooling, avoiding plastic engine parts that fail as they age, and using thicker oil paint/rust proofing.

Overpricing is what doomed the Japanese supercars in the 90’s. When prices for Supras and 3000GTs started edging into Porsche 911 and Corvette territory it was all over. As stoked as I am to see a neo-retro styled Z car, if it makes less HP than a 5 liter Mustang, at the same price point, they won’t sell. This is why Dodge continues to sell a ton of Challenger R/Ts.

Another great video with some amazing background info and I agree with your points 100%. I absolutely LOVE this Z Proto. For our second car we were thinking about the Z because it was one of the few new cars offered in a manual but we really needed a back seat. We ended up with a Honda Civic Type R and LOVE it! For a third car, the Z is on the list but I have to be honest, the current 370 Z NISMO is a really good car with a manual. I could not agree with you more about the pricing because when you start thinking about a car in the $50,000 to $60,000 range you automatically start to think of the C8. IMHO what would have helped to set the Supra apart from the C8 in driving experience would have been a good three pedal, 6 speed manual but here we have the new Z getting a 6 speed manual right out the gate. Give Americans a compelling reason to learn to drive a manual and they will learn. A brand new Z built from the ground up with a 6 speed manual is a very compelling reason to learn. Keep up the great work! BTW I can't stress this enough but I am SO grateful Nissan did not try to force that "V motion grill" design on the front end of this Z. THANK YOU Nissan! If Ford can let the Mustang be the Mustang and the Bronco be the Bronco Nissan can let the Z be the Z.

I would 100% buy a T-top 400z. One thing that i believe would be in high demand is giving the 400z a couple of larger sized turbos to put the horsepower at the same as the newer toyota supra. If you add equal horsepower to this car with the lower cost of the supra, you will get more people gravitating to the 400z instead of the supra.
That being said, i would love to own a 400z even if they didn't go that route.

Totally agree with the Supra being over priced. I hope the Z will come to be at $40k with the manual. I am in the market for a C8, maybe a stripped base stingray or a used one. But if the manual Z is in sale for $40k, my shopping list will change in a heart beat.

Those rear haunches are straight up Porsche 911 inspired, but that rear end is very American in it's styling. There's a real Camaro/Hellcat vibe going on there, with a hint of Z32 as well. And of course the front end is a wonderful tribute to the 240Z. The whole thing looks bloody great. I love it.
Can we get this design team to also design the next GTR? If they came up with something this good for the Z car, the new GTR really ought to be a design derivative of the R32 (yeah yeah, I know, it's not the first "real" GTR, but it's definitely the most famous one. I mean, that thing called was "Godzilla" for Pete's sake). How cool would that be? Or even the 1973 2nd Gen GTR (the C110) would make a pretty bad-ass base to use as the inspiration if they wanted to be more historic. Personally I'd like to see a return to a straight six RB style series engine too, how cool would a twin turbo "RB35" or "RB40" be? Nissan, for the love of all things that are motoring holy, please do this.

Love the car! As a former 370Z owner, I'm interested to see the final production version. Styling wise, I wish the nose was just a bit longer (and thus lower) better emulating the G-Nose. Maybe the NISMO version can do this. Like John Morton, I'm not a fan of the tail. Oh yeah, give us a nice ducktail spoiler option too; not a wing.

My biggest worry is electric power steering...don't give it that dead feel.
My 370 gives a direct connection for better or worse to the wheels, to the transmission, even to the brake pads. Keep it that way please.
There are plenty of computer controlled fast cars out there. I want it old school, like my 280 was, like my 370 is but maybe just a little more refined like my 300zx was.
Love the car, it's gonna look good in red.

The show was great, love the history lesson as well as the designer info.as for the design of the Z, the picturesdid not do it justice and I am glad that you took footage of the headlights the way that you did because it shows the way that Nissan captured the 240's. Overall I am glad that the long awaited king of Japanese auto sports (in my opinion) is back. I love the angle that you captured the what all of us wanted to know from the wheelbase to a possible engine layout. Design, first glad that its bigger, as a taller guy I'm one for leg room. I love the multiple model era that it brings together, my favorite part is the rear 3 quarter, how the hips stand out and the taillights tilt towards the hips.
