"The thing I like about Vontae Davis is that he doesn't quit"..... Well that comment didn't age very well now did it
A few things I thought were ironic:
Gruden says at 0:35 “he doesn’t quit” when talking about Vontae Davis, who retired at halftime nearly a decade later 😂
At 3:40 Gruden refers to Coach Belichick saying “he’s going to have Randy Moss” when, in reality, this was Moss’ last game as a New England Patriot 👀
Even at 33 that boy Moss could fly. Vontae was a good athlete and he still giving Moss 10-15 yards of cushion. That’s respect. Vontae won this battle tho
He still had wheels in SF on the low. They just didnt make him a focal point of the offense
This wasn’t Randy ‘the freak’ Moss anymore still great just not prime Moss.
@@johnmickns Cause the role of Moss in SF was to open up the offense so Crabtree could win 1 on 1 matchups
1:28 That is quite the cushion...
That was being smart. The corner is actually going against Moss and Brady. Most people forget that the QB knows where the receiver will be. Davis saw something, or had a coverage, where he stays deep. All that matters is Moss didn't catch it.
Context ..This was Randy Moss last game in NE and the only game of his career he didn’t have a catch. He was going through contract disputes and was giving half ass effort the 1st 4 games and Belichick’s trades his ass back to Minnesota and he seen the grass wasn’t always greener on the other side immediately. Vontae was playing an unmotivated Moss but non the less he did his job 🤷🏾♂️
Which is why Moss is below the great recievers. Like T.O like Rice even Fitz.
Y’all 3 dudes is tripping!!....Moss was so cold that you give dudes “credit” for locking him down with him giving “half the effort.”
You guys forget that Moss was a major presence on a 15-1 and a 16-0 team! And Both of those teams Should have won the Super Bowl. One of those was with an old Washed up QB. But the dude can’t wreck defenses and coach the team too. 🤷🏾♂️
But If you wanna Talk T.O. though, go down the list of quality Qb’s he had to work with in the prime of his career and how his presence factored into his team W/L success.......I would say Rice as well. Even though this dude played with 2 hall of fame Qb’s all through his prime and later with 2 more pro bowl caliber Qb’s in Garcia and Gannon.
Oh and Fitz is just a poor man’s Moss And even that is hall of fame worthy.
So that alone lets you know just how awesome Moss was......At “ Full Effort”. 👍🏾
Del Scott Yeah T.O. Made the pro bowl and 1st team all-pro at 33-34 years old with Tony Romo at qb (Who was good at the time). T.O. Had 15 TDs as well. I’m confident that if T.O. Had Tom Brady that year at qb, I feel like he could’ve matched Moss’s TD record or at least have 20 TDs.
I want to see more Moss now. Thanks for the content
excellent site- need this to show how technical the sport is. In a day where everyone thinks they can do a job after 5 minutes of training, the requirements need spelling out!! This vid must be 1 in a million. Moss was rarely covered, great work.
RIP Tae 🙏
RIP
So I just want to know exactly what happened. The score was 7-3 at halftime. And in the 4th quarter it was 41-14. 😭
Rest in paradise vontae
Moss got locked up. This ain’t something you see much. Vontae won this one 💯
This wasn’t Randy “the freak” Moss anymore it was just plain Randy and both of those WRs are two completely different people on the football field. Everybody who watched Moss knows that. 1998-2009 anything after is irrelevant.
I think if Vontae Davis would've went up against a prime Randy Moss it would've been a different story like if you agree
Oh so now Pats Moss was out of his prime? Come on now, stop making excuses for him.
This matchup would've been better if it was Minnesota Moss in his prime vs Vontae. I just feel like during Moss time with the Pats he was still Randy but not as explosive as he was during his heyday from 98-03
supratrd900 two weeks before this game Moss made that iconic 1 hander on Revis 👀
@@nflmatchuphighlights Moss hands and ball skills never left but his athleticism was clearly gone in 2010
Yeah and Vontae wasn't at his best either. He was still young and inconsistent.
Can you do a Champ Bailey vs Randy Moss matchup??
Not only intercepted Brady twice in a season but caught both on Moss!!
"This guy just doesn't quit"
2020:
"This guy only quits in the middle of games, Jim."
The day the Pats flooded Miami 45 - 14
Vontae from DC we don’t lay down we fight
Randy Moss career went downhill quickly after he left New England. Wish he would have finished his career with them.
sooo Moss gets locked up and his teams scores 41 points.....
2010 wasn’t Randy ‘the freak’ Moss it was just Randy at this point.
Rest In Paradise Big Dog
Rip
Worth noting that Moss was playing through some insane personal life issues with his family during this time that later caused him to retire for 2011. He was at the very end of his career and his GOAT athleticism was clearly gone by this game.
patrick r I think his athleticism was still there. That’s why Vontae was giving him so much cushion. Two weeks before this game he beat Revis deep on that iconic 1 hand catch. Randy might not have been the same athlete he was in Minnesota or even his 07 self, but still, as far as top end speed, one of the fastest receivers in the league
@@nflmatchuphighlights He was not a poor athlete by any means- in a straight line he was still quite fast by NFL standards - but the explosion in & out of his breaks was basically gone by this point. The Revis catch was classic "even & leaving" but his double moves, or even mid route various of speed to set the defender up - were all gone by now. I would note that is not so much "pure speed" but the ability to vary speed mid-route to set the defender up that makes a great deep threat. Moss attempts this at the 1:29 route but between the cushion and merely above-average explosion, he can't create the separation needed.
patrick r ok I can agree with this. Moss over the years in Oakland and in New England increasingly, in my opinion, lost that quickness in and out of breaks, he wasnt as agile as when he was in Minnesota from 98-04. I think his start/stop speed wasn’t as great either, it seemed it took him a little longer to hit his top speed. But his top speed was still elite even at this point in his career.
@@nflmatchuphighlights Moss's athleticism peaked in 2000-2001; the 2000 Bills game & Saints playoff game & 2001 Giants prime time game are the pinnacle of athleticism in the NFL; he became ever so slightly stiffer as he seemed to bulk up in the early to mid 2000s & then obviously it declined as he aged. His straight line though was elite until the very end; on the Vernon Davis long drop in the Super Bowl, Moss was pulling away from the safety, too bad Kaep missed...
0:32
*This would NOT age well*
Cali in the building, Big Fan if the "Freak" #84 Randy Moss but I really like feisty CB like #21 Vontae Davis. Miami released some good CB #21 Brent Grimes him & Sean Smith their Franchise makes some stupid decisions
0:33 ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?
Damn you can't even hate vontae shut his ass down left him with a goose egg!!!
The next day moss got traded
Anyone else miss when the NFL, and all other sports were American. Didn’t bring politics into the game. Didn’t boycott games over things that are made up by leftist media...
Did gruden just say Davis could run with moss, now watch him play 15 yards off him, what did Davis do in this clip? Randy drop the touchdown
Dolphins seen this and thought yeah we good trade his ass
@@spence_903 it’s not the time to clown the dolphins for trading a pro bowler ?
Super talented corner his head just wasn't all the way in it unfortunately
Moss is way past his prime.
ahhahaha 0:53
Yes 33 year old moss vs 22 year old vontae davis
Title:randy shut down by Davis
Reality: literally two plays and Rand dropped a for sure one while no longer in his prime and last game.
rip davis thank you for all you did
Vontae only know for retiring at halftime
This channel is genuinely my favorite on UA-cam. Every video is succinct, the editing and video quality is superb, and every clip seems to have a purpose. Keep up the good work bro, and please give us more classic matchups like sanders and rice, revis and moss, etc.
James Brown will do! When the off-season approaches I’ll have more throwbacks coming out so stay tuned! And I appreciate the love and support!
