While sad to see the old Dovers have gone, an MRL traction was the wise decision, especially since the old elevators’ machine room was so far away, which is believed to have caused them to leak oil and even overheat.
I myself do appreciate KONE for their modern aesthetics and technological advancements in the elevator industry, however I do understand how disappointing it is that these replaced such cool & famous elevators. In the long run, MRL traction was definitely the smarter decision. Lots of power being saved here
The Dover elevators were so much better. I remember going on them with my dad like 8 years ago and I think with my grandma back in 2009 when I was only 3 years old
As much as it sucked the original Dover elevators couldn’t be kept and even converted to a traction MRL, the location of their machine room being well within a service corridor, along with the machines being constantly overworked to pump oil from such a distance and the horrible oil leaks endured from their years of service became their Achilles heel. While many enthusiasts miss the originals and their distinctive “Chewbacca” sound, going with a traction MRL in this case was the right decision

In fact they painted the original pillars black. That's still original!!

Yeah well even a Mod would’ve been better than this

Yep that’s right they were better. Why would they have done that for
These are R2D2 and C3PO
They are not even glass elevators anymore
i loved those elevators i dont get why they got rid of such iconic elevators
Try the Orange parking deck elevators

The elevators were retired because of hydraulic issues
It's so hopelessly bland and depressing
Like I said in the video, nothing is wrong with the elevators themselves, it’s just what they replaced that makes me so disappointed.
@@TransitUSA Kone sucks.
Ya know, even a modernization would’ve been better than this bullshit
You can say that again. An Otis modernization would been ideal.
Sucks. Nothing good about that I like the older ones better than now
Chewbacca hydraulic motor super duper rocks on the glass elevators. How very disappointing
