It is such a shame that they didn't follow the pacing, aesthetics, lore, events and story from the tweets! The original tweets were so creative, creepy, and original, then Buzzfeed came in and ruined it when literally all they had to do was make a movie out of the content that already existed 😭

The original source material was created by buzzfeed too. The tweets stoped once Adam quit BF, no more incentive to write it.
Why is it that Adam's actual comics are 1000% scarier than this movie. Oh yeah because Adam actually wrote them without BuzzFeed. 😂

I remember reading the thread and being so spooked even if I didn't think it was real, everytime there was an update I was both excited and scared. I watched this movie and went to sleep and forgot all about it.

It's such a strange full circle moment watching this. I've been a fan for many years, and it all started from Ash Vlogs, Dear David and when you used to talk about Teletubbies. I love you so much Loey and I'm glad to have been able to grow up alongside you. ❤

I think David (the ghost) looking like a little boy actually makes sense. He was put in a coma when he was seven, and he (presumably) didn't mature while he was in that coma. Time might've passed and he might've physically grown, but mentally he still would've been a seven-year-old boy. And the psychic did say that "ghosts appear as what they want you to see", so it makes sense that someone who's mentally seven would choose to physically be seven.
Anyway this movie is perfection 11/10 i love it (justice for Loopy Linda) /hj
I don't wanna spread hate on the internet (like this movie told me not to do) but I feel like this movie was buzzfeed taking a big dump on Adam's great story
when you said she was surrounded by creepy drawings i immediately said out loud "oh, are they done in MS pain" 😂😭😭
i think the thing that drives me up several walls is that they didnt even wait until like 10 minutes in to mess with how the story actually works out cause in adam's original story, david is implied to be from a time period before the 90s, and that david doesnt actually do much in terms of interacting on the internet
they literally took a good ghost story and made it a cheesy creepypasta
and the only reason i can think the grocery store is prevalent at all is cause of the like, two mnetions of the skeleton of what couldve been a grocery store in the original story

I would be so uncomfy in Loey's shoes with LoopyLinda and this Cloey character. I also really hope one day we actual get Adam's proper vision of how he wanted Dear David to go, since it doesn't seem he had any real say.

It’s really upsetting that they changed it so much tbh. The original story line was so good and so raw and so well put together from a twitter thread. Imagine what it could have been if they let Adam Ellis himself write the script. Even if they didn’t, they had all the information they needed from start to finish to stay with the original concept.

I mean if Buzzfeed can steal the idea without crediting the creator, and get away with it, then I will absolutely go out of my way to buy this film on bootleg DVD burned by a guy who paid to see a different movie then snuck into the theatre to film Dear David on a ten year old Samsung.

I watched the movie a few days ago. and though it started off fine, it quickly went off track. it felt like they took like 10 tweets from the original dear David and went crazy with the story. like the beginning of David with him being in an online chatroom? I don't know why but even though we don't know where David came from, this feels too unreal. it didn't show the slow going creepiness that was there in the twitter threads. the movie just makes it look like there was actual David sightings right at the start (which I guess movies sometime do cause of the limited time). But the problem with the movie was that it all came out of nowhere. and by like the halfway point? "Dear David" the movie and "Dear David" the twitter threads from Adam were completely different things. they had a chance to make an amazing movie because a lot of people loved the "Dear David" twitter threads, but they just tried to dramatize it so much that by the halfway point, i felt like it wasn't even dear David anymore.
Maybe I’m remembering it wrong, but wasn’t David’s head dented in the original story because one of the store shelves fell on it? Or am I just crazy😂

I’m sad about the wasted potential for this but same time I feel like the reason all those twitter scary story sagas hit so different was because of the format and how unique it was. Watching the tweets come in real time and it’s just little photos and video clips with not a lot of other context added to the story bc it could have been real, which is why social media arg’s and things are so popular. I wish this could have been better for Adam since he’s so talented but I kinda knew the movie would be bad 😵💫

Another perfect example of how some horror stories only work in certain forms of media. You'd think we would have learned something from that back during the Slenderman era when any movie about him flopped harder than a fish out of water.

damn, this movie is so unfortunate. the original story was so engaging and so well written, its sad to see how it got done like this (tho i didn't like either endings)
We waited 6 years to see how Dear David would end, and they do this?! It seems like the only way this movie is even remotely related to the Dear David story is just the characters names. I wish they hadn’t silenced Adam, they should have and let him finish Dear David on twitter back in 2017 and then made the movie “Paranormal Activity” style. This is so disappointing, we waited so long but we don’t get a conclusion to the story we were all so invested in😢

I think that end part links back to what people were saying as the dear david stuff just ended and when every one asked Adam if he was okay his reply was very "off" and people started saying that David had possed Adam and that it wasn't really Adam replying.
The movie also deviates from the original tweets as in them it said that David died due to a shelf hitting him in the head which caused his death. I guess they had to deviate from what Adam tweeted for legal reasons otherwise they would have to credit him more and he'd get royalties from the movie. However from you said I bet he is pleased he is just a "Thanks too" in the credits as this movie sounds BAD.

This just makes me sad cause I remember when the tweets first came out I was totally scared and wasn’t sure if it was true or not, which btw I think I was in middle school at the time and was very naive lol. But anyway this movie just makes me really disappointed and they really could’ve done better!!!!
I can honestly say that all of it from start to finish was messy, none of it made any sense to me, it was just all over the place. I’m glad I didn’t watch it. Because it just sounds really badly done. The tweets were more scary and fun but the movie you basically told us just..none of it made any sense to me at all. too much was going on and so many things were left out and added in and nothing was really explained or expanded on. Guess I’m just glad I didn’t watch it, don’t really want to waste time on something so badly done. Great video though loey, I enjoyed your perspective on it

I’m honestly so relieved to find out he didn’t have anything to the movie cause Buzzfeed ruined it honestly. I tried liking it and twisted how I was watching in different angles to understand better but… it just didn’t work. They added elements that didn’t make since and took out what I thought were important details. They moved too fast and focused more on the buzzfeed stuff then they did on David. The story worked so much better as a slow burn with ambiguous details surrounding David’s death.
Also you joked about David getting the Jeff the Killer treatment but the way he works in the movie is LITERALLY a rip off of BEN Drowned! “Why are you so mean?” Genuinely just felt like rebranded “YOU SHOULDNT HAVE DONE THAT” complete with the whole ghost haunting electronics mechanic. It’s rediculous.

I give the Twitter threads more props than the movie. At least with the threads I felt in the story
If anyone or anything tickles my feet just be warned I tend to kick. And I kick super hard. I do not like the bottom of feet being touched as they are sensitive. Very sensitive. And tickling them makes my fight response kick into high gear.
