      I had a mid 1980's vented white label T-75 I bought for dirt cheap. It sounded great! It had that really warm/fat old school tone. I ultimately went with neodymium speakers, but the T-75 was great.

      It is brittle harsh and the worst speaker celestion makes. It is the reason most Marshall amps sound so bad.

    My favorite speaker, when I think of a Rock/Marshall tone.. a T-75 is what comes to mind for me, very versatile, reliable and moldable to whatever sound you want, Love it. Have one of the new ones on my Marshall 5210 combo, sounds amazing to me

    Both my 2x12 and 4x12 marshall cabs have G12t-75's in them. Between G12t-75's and greenbacks, they just get that perfect Marshall sound when paired with my marshall or EVH amp.

    I've never really hated the T75, just enough people told me I should hate them to almost convince me to avoid them for a while - but i won't get fooled again! They aren't a great match for the type of thing I generally like to play around with for myself, but as a session player sometimes people want me to record heavier tones and T75s have always served me well in those instances.

    The 75's are my favorite speaker. Most people hate them because they don't understand frequencies and mic placement. It's hard to argue Yngwie has a bad tone and he is a 75 user exclusively. Depends on the amp and tone you're going for. I find them perfect for what I do and balanced in both clean and distorted tones.

    I used them with a couple Silver Jubilees and liked them. These days (at 68), I use a high powered G12H style speaker in a closed 1x12 with a Dr. Z Route 66 and love it. The set up I've used the longest.

    I'm a huge fan of the T75 (yes, even the non vented, non donut logo modern one) for high gain tones (think early Meshuggah, Nevermore's DHIADW album, Heartwork ...), I think it's a fairly misunderstood speaker. Most people mic it up like a V30, don't bother to tweak their amp settings and expect similar results out of it ... Also as you beautifully demonstrated in the video, the T75 shines best when paired with a mid-heavy/woody sounding yet not "dull" speaker. It's one hell of a secret weapon to run in your cab, that's for sure.
    Loving the new video series so far, keep it up !

    I've got a black label and a vented magnet g12t75. I like the vented magnet version way better. Smoother highs. It depends on what amp you combine them with though. The black label speaker sounds great with my Marshall amps, but not so great with my Mesa or Fender amps. Also, they perform better if you push them. They need volume.

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  12 днів тому +1

      They are cool speakers. I've got a stack of old ones too, I think one made it in this video.... It's often hard to tell with older speakers how much is down to softening with age too, but either way, it's a speaker I like too. Thanks for watching.

  • @Fl4ppers
    @Fl4ppers 12 днів тому

    These are like the Sheffield speakers of the 80s/90s. People would buy them and think "instant Van Halen!" Plug it all in and get nothing like the sound. What was actually happening was the audio engineer on the recording side of things would partner up a 421 mic with another, usually a 57, and flick the phase on the 421 to get the sound. It was a sound totally produced at the mixing stage but that couldnt be done without the mic technique.Thats why these speakers had some merit in the studio for years until IRs became a thing. Pairing/mixing with other speakers in the cab is a way of taming the harshness, too, as their is natural phase cancellation and standing wave generation inside the cabinet. You can also change the sound by fitting internal angled baffles/boards inside the cabinet, as it breaks up/counters some standing waves.

    The T75 / M65 combination is what ive run for over 15 years now.
    T75 in my B cab and M65 in the A cab
    together as a full stack is glorious
    Another thing is the T75 being such a high wattage speaker really excels when pushed hard as well, those that dismiss them are usually running them at low volumes and not giving them a chance to show what they can do

    I played a lot of gigs & rehearsals with my Boogie MKIII simul class head though my JCM900 era 1960A cab with T-75s.
    The T75's complimented the MKIII really well, sounding really rich and thick. A great combo.
    It was more convenient to use the Marshall 1960A than my Mesa/Boogie Mark series cab because I kept the Marshall at the bass players rehearsal space and often I would supply a cab for all bands on the bill. The 1960A being 16 or 8 (stereo) or 4 oHms was more foolproof for a mixed lineup than the boogie 8 oHm. Also I was less precious about the Marshal cab because of the likely hood of beer spills etc. (Grill cloth vs metal grill) The 2203 on the other hand got on a lot better with the Boogie Mark series half open half closed back cab with C90's on the top and Black shadow (Eminence) vintage speakers in the closed bottom section.
    On a side note I've since replaced the Eminence made black shadows with V30s in the bottom section of the boogie MK series cab and it has improved an already great cab a huge amount in my opinion.

    • @ZillaCabs
      @ZillaCabs  14 днів тому

      It did, which used to surprise me, but I think although the G12-65 is an amazing speaker, and really versatile too, it has a few dead spots. We have it come up in a few recordings here where it can sound way out of place, sometimes really not very good..... that's our fault, we will ahve used it wrong or not worked hard enough on it but it can sometimes come across not so well... I kind of figured maybe a few too many people saw it in that light and decided to switch.

    I have a Laboga alligator 2x12 combo, open back. Original equiped with 2x v30. The late Adam Laboga changed one v30 with a T 75 several years ago. Sounds amazing. I think the problem is we all want to have the sound of a vintage amp played with a Peter Greens LP. 😅

  • @Aibric
    @Aibric 13 днів тому

    It’s easy to make the T75 sound bad but it can sound great in the right context. I have an oversized 2x12 horizontal loaded cab with a pair of the old 80’s ones in it and I love that cab, especially with my JP2C. You can’t mic it up using the standard “dustcap meets the cone” spot because the dust cap is much larger than on a V30 and you’ll end up with a kind of flat and dark sound that far out. I tend to like how a 57 sounds off axis with these speakers rather than straight on as well.

  • @jkf9167
    @jkf9167 14 днів тому

    I had four of em in a straight, undersized 4x12 and always sounded great. I was mostly tuning my guitars to C-standard at the time, but the speakers sounded punchy and clear. They had none of the slightly ratty sound I expected.

  • @alexguitar841
    @alexguitar841 14 днів тому

    The problem with the t75 is that they came out when amps were getting brighter (JCM900 & 2000 series) and the overly bright sound was blamed on the speakers because when you used a Vintage 30 they had a warmer fatter sound. At least that's what I remember... It was a lifetime ago.

    The T-75 will give you an 8\10 sound for pretty much any gain stage or style. That's kinda cool 'cos most speakers are good at one thing, but terrible at something else. The problem with the T-75 is that whatever you're using it for, there's a better speaker for whatever noise you're trying to make.
    If you were running a bar and wanted to have a backline cab for bands to use, I would 100% have T75s in it so that it'd be good for any band. If you were running a studio and didn't want to have multiple cabs for multiple genres, one Marshall 4x12 with T75s will work fine (again...there'd be better options, but it'd be fine). They have their place because of how versatile they are, but that versatility comes at the cost of them being "the best" at anything. Which is why a lot of people think they suck because most people have found something that does their thing, better than a T75

  • @dominbuleto

    I think you gave the key. For a long time it was still believed that you needed a 4x12 and a 100 watts amp, in my early days that was a jcm 900, and by default it was always an angled cab loaded with t 75s... Perhaps not the best combination, but people wanted to believe it was 🤷🏻‍♂️. I think that's where the hate comes from, and with good reason, the cab for DSL and tsl was still the same

    The V30 is nicer and the Greenback nicer still. A 4x12 loaded with T75s has a power rating of 300 W RMS. You need a very loud powerful amp to push those drivers. I prefer lower SPL of a smaller amp with lower-power speakers.
