Another wonderful tutorial, thanks. I'm wondering, if you had wanted to add shadows on the ground from the front lamplight, how would you do that? Radial filters with negative Shadow?
Thanks for the comment and question, to answer, in this video I show how to change and add shadows:- ua-cam.com/video/j5ek1W9yVSc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JamieRMathlin. I hope this is helpful....
Excellent run through your process. You filled in some gaps in my approach and highlighted some ways I hadn’t considered, thanks. One cheeky note. Where the bin man was removed there is a random bit of horizontal rail not going to a post. Once you see its odd. 😂
Thanks for the comment, and your eagle eyes, I did not see that piece of railing during the edit, but now you have noted it, I cannot unsee it 😀 thank you...
The black and white looks fantastic Jamie. I like how you take the time to explain your process. I have learnt to use radial and linear gradients in my general photography. Even done a few day to night shots from the inspiration from your videos.
I'm addicted to color but I have lately become interested in black and white. I have an old copy of Nik Silver Effex, and I've been trying it out on some of my photos. I love the effect. When I can afford the newer program, I'll get it.
if you have Silver Efex Pro 2 or newer, no need to change, the presets are just as good, yes, you do get more adjustments in the newer version, but the main effects remain un-changed !
@@jamiermathlin That's how it seemed to me. My old copy seems to work quite well, and it's the one Google was giving away free not too long ago. I picked it up then. I do love what it can do to a B&W photo!
Fantastic video Jamie. Love your B & W conversion, given me a few pointers as I have Silver Efex ( the original free version ) Have to say though, your colour image is amazing. Your attention to detail is without compromise , and it shows in the final edit. Well done.
I personally prefer Silver Efex as I feel it give more latitude for adjustments to film, grain, and potential for boarders. However many great tips and tricks, keep up the good work.
Nice as always Jamie. It may not be your style but have you ever tried to replicate pictorialism? They say it can't be reproduced digitally. I love the style at any rate.
Hi Nick, that is an interesting concept. Generally (as you know) I do not include people in my images, and pictorialism tends to follow a person-based approach to the image, however, I have seen non-people-related images and it can be quite a feat to pull off. I will do some research and have a think 😀
@@nickross133 Wow, you just sent me down a rabbit hole for several hours researching what Pictorialism is. Thank you so much, I instantly loved it. I shall definitely be studying and trying to add this style into my photography from now on. I too would love to see what Mr Mathlin would come up with.
I am just an amateur photographer. I am of the opinion that even with digital cameras, the use of B & W contrast filters is useful. May I ask you your opinion on that?
If you do not prefer to post-process your images on your computer and prefer to work with the image straight from the camera, then contrast filters are a very useful accessory, however, if you do post-process your images, then there is no need for filters, everything is possible in post 😀thanks for the question.
Hi Simon, As you can see in the video I explained how the black and white could be processed in Lightroom first, before showing Silver Efex, as I agree with you we need to be mindful of the cost for all the different pieces of software. The advantage of Silver Efex from the DXO Nik Collection is that it is a one-time purchase, no subscription nonsense, yours forever 😀
It makes you look twice and brings some mystery to the image. They can never be perfect, but where possible I try to get the shadows and light sources aligned. See this video for an extreme Day-to-night, where I really do consider the shadows in great detail:- ua-cam.com/video/j5ek1W9yVSc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JamieRMathlin
Ahhhh-mazing! It's like watching a symphony play out
thank you Mark 😀
So enjoyable. Great delivery- easy to follow. Thank you.

Fantastic work!!! I'm beginning to convert several of my images to black and white. So your video is very helpful.

It was really good in color too !

Thank You for another great learning experience. I do like silver effects, added more detail.

Another great video jamie
Thanks Vince 😀
Jamie, another great video. Thank you.
Thank you for the comment Boris, it is very much appreciated 😀
thank you very informative. Why did you change from lasso to remove too?
Just to decrease the number of tokens I use, the remove tool does not consume tokens, where as generative fill does 🙂
Thank you for another great tutorial

Thanks for the answer.
Would like to have seen it with the water feature all in it too, without cropping it you could have kept the sky in as well.
may be, but that is not how this one turned out 😀
It’s okay for you to use third party software which would choose for those of us that want to watch the cost of software for black and white please

may I ask which focal length this photo was taken with?
85mm on my Canon R5 with the RF 24-105 F4 Lens at F8 and ISO100 :-D
Excellent Jamie. However, the railings on the left really annoy me
Thanks for the comment, I did include a link to the RAW image in the video notes, feel free to download and create your own version 😀😀
Great, but why dont you use Solo mode in the menu bar ,instead of scrolling up and down .just saying.
good question, answer, I like to have everything open and scroll 😀
How can you find out how many tokens you have used?
open your Adobe Creative Cloud app, and then in the top right corner click on your profile/account, this will open your credit total 😀
Where there's light, there are shadows - but not in your image processing😲

@jamiermathlin I know, I mean you usually remove them
@@whitehorseflyer I know I do, well spotted, I was thinking to remove them and all the traffic lights, but the video was already over 45 mins 😀
