An interview with Nicki Parrott

Australiana di origine, ma residente a New York dal 1994, Nicki Parrott è un astro nascente del jazz. Lanciata dal leggendario chitarrista Les Paul (con il quale si è esibita ogni lunedì all'Iridium Jazz Club di New York, dal 2000 fino alla morte dell'artista), Nicki Parrott si è conquistata un posto di primo piano per le sue doti di abile contrabbassista (e una donna al contrabbasso è un fatto già di per se stesso abbastanza raro da farsi notare) e ultimamente anche di compositrice e cantante dalla voce morbida e sensuale. Tanto brava quanto giovane e bellissima, Nicki Parrott ha tutto per sedurre il pubblico e conta fra le sue collaborazioni più regolari quella con il trombettista Warren Vaché e il suo giro di musicisti di New York.
Molto amata dal pubblico di JazzAscona, torna al festival come ospite speciale di varie formazioni nell'ambito del tributo che il festival dedica alle donne nel jazz .
Born in Australia but based in New York City since 1994, Nicki Parrott is one the rising starts of jazz. Launched by the guitar legend Les Paul, with whom she played every Monday at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York from 2000 until his death, Parrott has earned a position at the top level of jazz and is appreciated also for her compositions and her soft, sensual vocals. Young, beautiful, and talented, Parrott has all the pieces to seduce the public, as she demonstrates in her regular collaborations with the trumpeter Warren Vaché and his circle of musicians in New York. At JazzAscona 2012 she returns as part of the tribute to female jazzists and participates as special guest together with various formations.

Amazing! I would Never suspected she was self taught on the bass! I love to hear her play and sing, since she does both exceedingly well! I play bass guitar, and have recently started playing on electric upright bass. She is inspiring. Thank you Nicki!!
