Very informative! At our museum in Marquette, Michigan we've got one of the first snow mobiles - a snow machine. This contraption was built in someone's garage in the 1940s. Father and son duo built the several snow machines, the first to have two seats, a steering "wheel" and motorized by a motorcycle engine. They made the vehicle out at their camp where they hunted, fished, and rode through the trees on their homemade machines
The evolution of the modern snowmobile will be the downfall of the sport. Been a snowmobiler for over 50 years, 15 to $20,000 for a new snowmobile? Everything is about the new hitec race ready, beat the competition. What happened to the family fun snowmobile? I used to buy a new sled every 4 years the last new one I bought was 1996. Their used to be over a hundred manufacturers over the years only a couple now. I see so many people buying vintage sleds restoring them and having a ball with them. Thats the direction I'm going in, I see the manufacturers racing their way out of business within the next 20 years.
