you're obviously too embroiled into your biases to actually see this impartially. How exactly do you seem to find you statement to be accurate? Hagler got hit way too much. Both GGG and Canelo would compete in any era. In fact, among the four middleweight contenders during that time (Hagler, Duran, Leonard, and Hearns), Leonard and Duran would present the most trouble for Canelo. Leonard due to his accurate and quick jab along with his great movement. Duran because tactically, he was the best among all the aforementioned fighters. Also, Duran's clinching and inboxing abilities far surpass any middleweight during any era and that is something that has been lost among current era fighters. Hagler, while possessing the ability to switch stances and counter well, does not feint well enough to throw Canelo off his rhythm. If Hearns was able to hit him as much, Canelo would have a day punishing him while making him miss. Hearns has a quick and powerful right and is tall but I dont see him landed anything significant, he is too predictable.
@@stanceswitch6419 They absolutely could not and part of what you're saying actually proves my point. Out of the 4 people you named Hearns, Hagler, and Leonard all pretty much stomped Duran at one time or another which is exactly why GGG and Canelo would have pretty much no chance. Leonard and Hearns are far too mobile and active with their jabs. Hearns having the longest reach and highest torso would cause Canelo the most problems by stepping around him and not letting him get inside, if he did get inside Canelo's head would be right in hook range as Hearns was known to be a reckless banger that did not shy away from inside fighting by shelling up (Canelo only has success against fights with no inside game pretty much). Leonard is faster in every sense. On the feet, hands etc plus he has a reach advantage over Canelo, same rules apply he can keep canelo away with jabbing and footwork like Lara and could outdo him on the inside. Hagler is not as fast on the feet as Canelo but has slightly faster hands and a 5 inch reach advantage. Literally the same rules as Leonard applies. And all the same points I mentioned apply to GGG as well because he is shorter and slower on his feet and hands then all the people I named. And Hagler outdoes them both on pure concussive stopping power. So if we look at things objectively you're arguing that the worst of those 4 (as they have all beaten Duran at some point) stands the best chance. Looks like you are the one with some biases there.
Nah style and abilities wise prime GGG could’ve competed .His size, jab and power would’ve gotten him far as a pressure fighting technician who can box like he showed in Canelo GGG 1. It sounds like you don’t know boxing when you’re trying to one up “ casuals” and sounding like one. Agreed with Canelo, who only fought mostly bums at catchweight for middleweight.
@@acetofresh1 I am not saying GGG would have no success but the big 4 would have beat the fck outa GGG. The greatest middleweight champion of all time. Hagler was never knocked down or never hurt in his entire career. It’s hard to think of another fighter who can say that.
Hagler was one of if not the best Middleweight ever. Legends like Robinson and Monzon would have alot of trouble against him. I think Hagler vs Robinson or Monzon are toss up fights. I grew up watching Hagler and he certainly was a legend. He could box or punch equally well and his toughness was unequalled. He also could fight southpaw or orthodox with great effectiveness. Leonard caught him at the end of his career. He waited till Hagler aged out. He would never have fought him in the early 80s as Hagler was at his peak and would have been too much to handle. Hagler had wars with Duran, Roldan, Hearns and Mugabi which slowed him down enough so Leonard could take fight. Leonard fought well and the fight was close but Haglers best days were behind him.
Officials should have had better control of this. You cannot allow 2 cornermen for one fighter just hold up the start of a round for 5 minutes just because they have a complaint. If that was Mills Lane he would have told them to get the hell out of the ring or face disqualification. Let me add that if the fight had ended in disqualification because Antuofermo's corner refused to get out of the ring a part of Antuofermo's purse should have been withheld.
I never liked Antuofermo because he was a very dirty fighter who led with his big head, and then he and his corner would cry about head butts!! Vitto wasn't a boxer he was a street fighter who used every dirty tactic in the book. He had zero technique and no real skill but won most of his fights by brute force and overwhelming aggression. That's why he made real boxers look bad. And remember that professional boxing has always existed amid serious corruption and I believe that Vitto benefited from that corruption, probably unwittingly. I will say this: he had power, heart, stamina, and a superb body!! He was shredded!! And he probably never lost a street fight! 😊❤
WHO was this Marvin Hagler?! HOW good an American fighter was this bald headed dude?! I had ALL QUESTIONS...AND MORE..answered by the time the bottles and cans came spraying & flying through & into that London ring. Respect has rarely been as well & fully earnt & remained Marvin's career. He was a strong champion who told it as it is. Marvellous...RIP. You seldom gave any in the ring...& we fans LOVED IT!
Antuofermo is a complete goon. Hagler beat him soundly in their first fight and it is just too bad Antuofermo cuts so easily because I would have like to have seen Hagler knock him the F-out.
Prime hagler, light on his feet, lateral movement, fluid, quick feet/hands. Corner freaking out cuz they know their man is beat. Not the same hagler who fought Leonard, MUCH better version here
To get a body like Hagler you have to be in a caloric deficit. Getting to sub 10% body fat is not easy without taking it simple about 0.75 - 1 lb lost weekly. Not just about workouts, the low calorie diet is important too.
Great komment but the other guy is way more leaner than any boxer I’ve ever seen as well, Hagler has a great figure but his opponent also looks like he’s 7-8 % body fat as well
Much respect to Vito's determination. But Vito's manager is wrong if he is saying hagler deliberately head butted Vito. Because their is really no evidence of that at all.
After Antuofermo was cut in round 1 his corner was desperately trying to get Hagler DQ'd, because Vito had little to no chance of winning this bout. At that point in time these 2 fighters' careers were rapidly heading in opposite directions.
Antuofermo always led with his head. He would bore in with his head down, making butts inevitable. Despite his corner's histrionics and posturing, he made his own bed.
Was Hagler intentially headbutting, or was contact because of how he kept his chin tucked fighting on the inside? Also Antefermo complaining about rough tactics is like Hamsho complaining about dirty fighting.
Both. Hagler could go old school dirty, and Hamsho was known for fighting dirty. But Hagler's chin tuck meant the top of his head would sometimes hit opponents.
Can't believe that Vito Antuofermo made it 4 rounds with the ultra formidable & fearsome Hagler without being carried out on a stretcher. This fight was over before it began. Hagler was one of the top 3 middleweight fighters of all time (behind only Harry Greb & Sugar Ray Robinson, & better than Monzon & all else who followed him!). Hagler was the most physically fit & hardcore fighting machine of the 80s, tougher & more devastating than Tyson on a pound for pound basis (Monzon would have been scared of Hagler!).
Freddie Brown and Panama "Cheater" Lewis knew this would not go 15 rounds therefore they would not be able to influence the judges like in the first fight so they came up with this excuse.
Hagler was massively benefitted by the referee not allowing Antuofermo to fight on the inside. Antuofermo is not a puncher, so pressure is pretty much all he has until the referee takes it away from him.
Reach tells you a lot. Hagler has 6" more reach than Vito, and you can see that Vito's face is all scarred from previous fights because of his short arms. That's why he always had to get inside; but that always comes with a lot of punishment to the head.
Marvin didn’t loss the first fight with Vito and God knows how face first Antuofermo ever became champion ….tough as teak but couldn’t punch his way out of a paper bag …..Marvin gave him way too much respect in the first fight ….
Absolutely shameful of Antuafermo's cornermen to have behaved like that, Vito clearly did a billy goat on hagler. It wasnt even questionable.
I totally agree.
Hagler brought his head down. Anyway, it was accidental. Vito was an awkward fighter.

Respect has rarely been as well & fully earnt & remained Marvin's career. He was a strong champion who told it as it is. Marvellous...RIP. You seldom gave any in the ring...& we fans LOVED IT!
Dirty Panama Lewis dirty plan tactics backfired , Antifeurmo headbutting Hagler busted up his own head 😂. Good call by Referee 👍
Hagler a goat at his weight class
Nah. Greb, Monzon and even Sugar Ray has better case than him.
Everybody underestimated Vito till You got in the Ring with Him then it was too late.
Hagler was a beast beat the best robbed by sugar ray, greatest middleweight of all time..rip
Whoever trained Vito should've taught him not to punch with his head.
Antuofermo is a complete goon. Hagler beat him soundly in their first fight and it is just too bad Antuofermo cuts so easily because I would have like to have seen Hagler knock him the F-out.
More Hagler fights Top Rank!! Upload more Hagler fights!!
Prime hagler, light on his feet, lateral movement, fluid, quick feet/hands. Corner freaking out cuz they know their man is beat. Not the same hagler who fought Leonard, MUCH better version here
Marvelous Marvin Hagler, One of the best middleweights of all time, R.I.P. Champ....
I wish I had a body like Hagler I should workout more
After Antuofermo was cut in round 1 his corner was desperately trying to get Hagler DQ'd, because Vito had little to no chance of winning this bout. At that point in time these 2 fighters' careers were rapidly heading in opposite directions.
Damn Bob Arum is a living dinosaurs
Vito's corner was a disgrace, they should've suspended the bunch. 😡😠 🥊🥊
Hagler was scary
It's amazing that these two rivals eventually became good friends.
Hagler was a fucking beast. Made Hearns look like nothing.
Tommy hearns
The Hearn fight is short but far from easy for Hagler. It was actually a very tough fight and Hagler was on the verge of losing it because of his cut.
Hearns fell into his style that’s why Leonard out speeded him and frustrated him...styles count...
Panama Lewis...should have served 30 years.
This is how I wanted him to fight in bout # 1...
"he's springing leaks from every place else."
🤣🤣🤣
This mf litterally rushed in Marvin's head and he is surprised of getting headbutt
Antuofermo's lethal lead forehead didn't hold up this time. Oh look. There's Panama Lewis.
Man,life is hard enough, we need to show one another love while we are still here to receive it.
One of the kings of his era🥊
WHY NOT CELEBRATE AMERICA'S HISTORY MONTH ONCE A YEAR?!!!!! I CELEBRATE IT EVERYDAY AS LONG AS I LIVE! MARVIN AND VITO WERE BOTH GREAT FIGHTERS!
RIP MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER
The cheating Panama Lewis putting crap on his guy's head that blind Marvin.
Good thing that didn’t matter, because Hagler still won by TKO.
Didn't Panama Lewis get banned for life from boxing ?
Hagler is beast! RIP Marvelous💫
Marvin a BAD Man!
Rip Sir
🥊
"I just wanna squat that mosquito"
Just the most skillfull fighter i have ever seen
Reach tells you a lot. Hagler has 6" more reach than Vito, and you can see that Vito's face is all scarred from previous fights because of his short arms. That's why he always had to get inside; but that always comes with a lot of punishment to the head.
The MARVELOUS ONE WAS ALREADY A CHAMP BEFORE FACING VITO FOR THE 2nd TIME.....
Marvin didn’t loss the first fight with Vito and God knows how face first Antuofermo ever became champion ….tough as teak but couldn’t punch his way out of a paper bag …..Marvin gave him way too much respect in the first fight ….
Black History Month? How come nobody else has a "History Month"??
