So he was simply inspired by the bicycle race going on near the recording studio, BUT, your analysis isn't wrong either. Queen, and Freddie in particular, were all about leaving songs open to the interpretation of the listener. So if that's what you get out of the lyrics, that is what it means to you, and that's great. That's how art allows you to think creatively, and it's a wonderful thing.
Hate to tell you, but he was inspired to write this after seeing the Tour de France bicycle race go by the place he was staying. More fun than deep.
Really do like your interpretation of the songs meaning ... alas it was inspired just as bbbfst has stated .. The tour de France.
Yup, I love the fact Freddie can take something like the Tour De France and turn it into this wonderful quirky song.
I like you dude but you talk to much and stop the videos to much.....just saying.
a mater of time i think ,it means at that time nothing mattered nor he cared about what anyone else was into at the time ,he is there for the bike event
You are absolutely correct. Freddy could get inspired by anything he was amazing !!
Bicycle Race and Fat Bottomed Girls were the A and B sides of a single. Each has a reference to each other in the lyrics.
Haha, they are naked indeed! It's Queen! They don't fake!
why would you put closed girls on bikes?!
They are naked ha! The cover of the song was butts on a bike seat so underwear was painted on the cover art after hahahaha
Queen were so popular and "big" at the time that they hired like 200 models, booked Wembley Stadium for a day and made the models ride naked on bikes in a very competitive race!
Who got the seats,lol.
It was Wimbledon Stadium that was graced with their presence, not Wembley. I'm not sure who got the seats, though! I know Halfords wouldn't take them back.
Should check out Somebody to Love by Queen if you want some amazing harmony
1981 version rock montreal
Check Somebody to Love live at Hammersmith Odeon 1979 you'll be delighted!
I was just coming here to say the same thing. Just watched somebody else react to it and realized hed love it. As for live, Live at LIVE AID
They produced that album in Montreux not far away from where the Tour de France happens, the most important bicycle race of the world. Freddie wrote this song and that big bicycle race was the main insperation to this song. Yes these girls are naked, all the bikes were rentals and the owner didnt want to take them back afterwards, at least not the seats. Also back in the days Queen put a poster of the girls inside the vinyl sleeve, that caused a lot of trouble and they had to remove that poster. Also the cover of the Bicycle Race/Fat Bottomed Girls double A single showed the back of one of the girls and they had to cover it up too with a sketched pantie.
given it was the very beginning of music video era (after 1975 - Bohemian Rhapsody), sure it was a very outrageous thing to do
A hundred years ago, or so, I was listening to the radio and it was one of those shows that tells tidbits about each song they play. They were playing this song and they said that Freddie was taking a hot bath after a recording session and he heard something that made him look out the window and he saw all the Tour de France bikes going by. That was the inspiration for this song, supposedly. I don't know how true it was. But that was back in the day when every teeny little tidbit about your favorite band was like gold. Not like today where you can dial up anything you want to know.
My favourite Queen Live performance - In the Lap of the Gods Revisited, Live at Wembley Stadium 1986. Freddies vocals and rapport with the crowd were just sensational.
I liked the lyrics analysis. It gave the song a different perspective, at least for me. I would like to propose "Queen - Breakthru" for a reaction.
My fave Queen song is "Spread your wings" and "It's a hard life"
co you have to like Play the Game as well, as it is the sister´s song to "It´s a Hard Life" :D
Spread Your Wings is so underrated! Love that song
Spread your wings and seven seas of rhye are so underrated.
The beginning of It's A Hard Life is so beautiful and Spread Your Wings is just great
The meaning I get is that he just doesn't care what anyone else does or thinks, thus he can be a contrarian or whatever. He just doesn't care because all he wants to do is ride his bicycle. Back in the day, bicycles had bells on them. Those bells are what was being rung. It's just a thematic thing. If your looking for a metaphor for the bicycle, it can mean life, like you said, or the pursuit of sexual satisfaction.
That's kind of what I got. Plus, "back in the day" bicycles represented freedom and independence, at least until you could drive!! We didn't have cell phones or computers to hang out with friends. We actually had to get together to hang out!!!! But whatever you get out of it is cool as long as your having fun with it - that's all the boys of Queen were after!! Well fun and fat bottoms!!!!
I love the way you analysis the hidden messages in musics.
No those girls were naked. Apparently the place they rented the bikes from complained they had to "change the seats".
Where they go? Lol
Please listen to Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe singing ‘Barcelona’
Or How can I go on
Queen - Death on two legs
LOL! Love your reaction! Luckily for us Freddie once told in an interview that the listener can add any meaning he wants to a song :). If you want a deep song you might try who wants to live forever or Innuendo
Who Wants to Live Forever, live at Wembley, Saturday concert. Fantastic.
Can't wait for the reaction to the live stuff - they sound possibly even better, Freddie has insane stage presence and the crowd control and interaction is second to none. Do the live aid and Montreal ones for sure
LMAO you can tell you're a bit weirded out 🤣 this song is just a fun one
Sometimes a Bike is just a Bike LOL. Love the react folk
Like someone said below: PLEASE react to "The Show must go on"....the last song Freddie recorded with Queen. It was his goodbye to his bandmates and his fans.
I think it's all a metaphor meaning that Freddie wants a big bike up his race track!
People always reading so much into Queen songs. They are pretty straight up in their lyrics. He just wants to ride his bicycle.
The way you’re enjoying the song so much makes me smile
My two favourites are ones almost no one reacts to or knows... “I want it all” and “the miracle”
Both are ssooooo incredibly good. Please react to one or both, they are awaesome!!
Note that neither was ever performed live as Freddie's health was seriously declining and Queen was no longer touring. But great songs. And The Miracle was Brian May's favorite Queen song.
Sorry dude there is no deep meaning to this song. This is just Freddie trolling all of us lol
Queen Live at the Hammersmith Odeon White Queen (as it began)... Most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
You have to react to "Don't Stop Me Now"
Best driving song ever. Sweeping around good country lanes, belting this out is just a joy. Great song.
I suggested this one just now. It’s easily my favorite Queen song.
Don't overthink the meaning of the song. It's just a bit of fun throwing in lots of off the wall references. The reference to "fat bottomed girls" is its double A-side release paired with the song "Fat Bbottomed Girls".
Yep..... Naked! The album came with a poster of about 60 naked women sitting on bicycles and my dad had it hanging on the wall 😂
BTW- my oldest (6 year old boy) learned to sing the chorus to this song when he was 2.
Don't forget that this was the other side of Fat Bottomed Girls double A side single ;) And yes - the girls are very naked, and the bicycle rental company refused to take the seats back after the video shoot.
It's obvious what Freddie's flip side to Brian's Fat Bottomed Girl would be isn't it?
I heard (what could be a rumor) that they rented those bicycles for the video and the bicycle company had to replace all of the seats... Might be true... Could be false. In any case, great song
I love your reactions man! And that Queen was never played on the radio is not correct. In Europe, South America and Japan Queen were massive and still is. Queen's peak in USA was in 1979/1980 when they had two number 1 hits on Billboard with "Crazy Little Thing called love" and "Another one Bites the dust"!
After that it went downhill for Queen in USA. It started with Hot Space album in 1982. They probably tried to milk the success of Another One Bites the dust and go more funk. That backfired. Also "I Want to Break free" in 1984 were banned in USA because Queen dressed up as women doing a parody of a soap series in UK.
The bass in this song is incredible!
They written this when they was based in France, and the tour de France was passing through the village/town.
The song is about having fun.
The girls was definitely naked.
React to Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Stone Cold Crazy
Riding a bike is a totally different experience when compared to bike racing. One is freedom and self reliance, the other is team and training, discipline and competition. Still riding at 70.
Queen - The Invisible Man, one of my favourites. The bass line has such a good groove and the official video is worth reacting to.
Certainly about the tour de France going past their recording studio back in the day. The girls were indeed naked. They hired the bikes and we're told by the bike shop owner they'd need to buy the seats if the girls were gonna be on them naked, which they did. Has a lot of cool references to the 70's. Incidentally, Freddie Mercury was a huge star wars fan. The timing structures on this song are sublime 👌 very fun to play this song on the drums.
Yeah....no this is just about bikes XD
When this album came out they had a poster inside with a bunch of naked girls on bicycles. Story goes they returned all the bicycles back to supplier without washing them off (if you catch my drift). The supplier sent back the bikes to be cleaned.
I love the way you analyse lyrics.
you are totally right! he just said: "live the life in the way you want to live!". like: "black is the best color!" and in my opinon "white is the best color". (< has nothing to do with racsim). "you like the movie ?" - "i like !". people have different meanings! and he hates to discuss about it! so: "leave me alone! all i wanna do ist to ride my bike! i accept your meaning, but i don't want du discuss".
I notice in your previous videos you seem to like songs with a transition. March of the Black Queen is an amazing song and I think you'll LOVE it
I’m loving the pure joy in your reaction vids about Queen. If you haven’t yet, I’d love to see you do “Don’t Stop Me Now”. It’s my favorite song of theirs. Anything from -A Kind of Magic- is awesome. Definitely my favorite Queen album. Tho it does tie very much into the first Highlander movie. If you haven’t seen that, I recommend it as well. Companion viewing for the record. They also scored the 1980s Flash Gordon film and their “Flash Gordon” song is absolutely amazing. If no one remembers the film, they remember that song and the music Queen did for that film.
I love the way he's not reacting to the nude women
Edit: never mind lol!
Folks are suggesting songs for which there are no official videos but they’re great music anyway, so don’t be discouraged about that!
One such song I like to recommend is Mustapha, you’ll love it.
Gotta react to “I was born to love you” it’s not very popular but that shit slaps
You have to react to LIVE AID 1985! Amazing performance by Queen.
Admit that you enjoyed getting flashed without a warning by all those girls ;)
Live aid 1985 queen. Is the best 18mins of live rock music.
The girls were actually naked. It was the 70ies. Good times.
I love we will rock you and bicycle race
Live Aid 85 watch that! Totally fantastic @!! Queen were Live Aid !!!
my favorites are: White Queen, Cool cat, somebody to love, the show must go one, radio gaga and A kind of magic
You have to do “Don’t Stop Me Now” by them! It’s sooooo good! And of course his vocals are amazing!
An old term for a woman who slept around was 'the town bike', because everyone had ridden her.
Queen are played on the radio all the time
Another suggestion is the song "Barcelona" that Freddie Mercury did with opera star Monsterrat Caballe that sadly died this week. This song showed how brave Freddie was when he dared to do a duet with such a star in a different genre. This was late in Freddie's career, but it was on of his proudest moments. Queen - Innuendo....one of the last song this most epic band
I want you to react to the song "Breakthru" by Queen from 1989. A fun song with a good music video. A great bassline that I think you will enjoy. Just do it! :)
Check "Innuendo" by Queen. Soo good!
queen keep yourself alive
Dead on two legs is also a bit different song :D
Droosy1 1 I LOVE that song 😍
You need to react to Brighton Rock by Queen, it's AMAZING!
Dude, the bells symbolize bicycle bells. Ding-ding. LOLOL, it's just a silly song. Supposedly Freddie was taking a hot bath, heard some noise, went to the window and saw the cyclists of the Tour de France going by. Not deep, just represents maybe the race of life. I always thought he was saying he wanted to be carefree, without worries, not having to make choices or pick sides. That's what it meant to me.
Dude, as long as you ste watching an official queen video...you do not have to skip
React to Cool Cat. It's my favorite Queen song. It's super chill and different from their other songs. Too bad their is no live performance.
Too bad they never released the version with the additional vocals by David Bowie too.
Funny story about the naked girls on bikes, they borrowed the bikes and when the company they borrowed them from saw all the naked girls on the bikes they made Queen buy all new seats.
QUEEN BREAKTHRU
Queen - Innuendo. Epic.
It is commonly accepted that Freddie wrote this song inspired by the Tour de France that was passing through Montreux where they were recording the album Jazz, and specifically that the primary inspiration was one of the cyclists that Freddie happened to have a brief affair with, though that could just be rumour.
And yes. The women on the bikes were totally naked. The bikes were rented for the video, then were returned... uncleaned... and the shop had no idea what they had been used for
I would definitely recommend the Live Aid performance they did.
In my opinion it's one of the most engaging live performance of all time.
Would really like to get your reaction on ABBA-songs if you haven't listened to them before.
You might want to start with "Hole In Your Soul", becasuse that one has a Queen characteristic over it, and then listen to their more classic hits like "Dancing Queen" or "Mamma Mia".
Interesting breakdown!! I always thought that the line, "you say God" "give me a choice!" meant, c'mon, I have no choice but to believe in God. Your interpretation was very interesting to that line.
Also, you noticed the reference to Fat Bottomed Girls in the song! That's why he says "Get on your bikes and ride" at the ending of Fat Bottomed Girls. They go together.
The inner sleeve cover of this album was a pic of the naked chicks riding bikes. It was banned/censored in the US at the time!
Queen is life.
This song was banned in the USA and slowed down their popularity in America.
You should react to some songs by The Cranberries, like Zombie, Linger, Ode to My Family, You and Me, and Dreams. They're an Irish rock band that was huge in the 90s, their lead singer (Dolores O'Riordan) has a very unique voice. Sadly she died from an accident earlier this year.
Please react to 107 Queen Facts, dude. Also Freddies Funny moments, he had a great humor.
He was a true queen in the whole sense of the wird. Very catty man. 30 years before his time in that respect. In the old footage it just comes across very funny.
You should definitely check out some of their funny moments to get to know them better!!
“I just seen some butt cheeks” 😂
4:38
According to the band, no interpretation is wrong
The bells symbolize bicycle bells
you got it well done, very entertaining, cheers.
Yes, the girls are naked. It's a U.K. thing. No symbolism at all. It is what it is.
You NEED some Meatloaf!!!! Really I'm not kidding. You like Queen you're going to like Meatloaf!!!!
Brighton Rock (live killers version), Brian May channels god....with the help of a sweet echo effect, lol
Hey dude, sometimes a song is just a clever song with a catchy lyric!!!
And sometimes they're metaphors for gay sex... "I want to ride it where I like..."
Clint Larvenz 😂
Listen to The Show Must Go On.
Freddie's close to death from aids.
Can barely walk.
Brian May (Guitar) writes the song, tells Freddie he's probably too ill to sing it.
Freddie downs a shot of vodka, says "I'll fucking do it, darling"
Sings it in one take, practically fucked his vocal chords doing it.
Video is a montage of previous videos because Freddie was too ill to film one for it.
nobody gives a fuck about the "deep" meaning of this song it just sounds good
Wanna blow your mind? Watch "Steve Vai - For the Love of God" (live with orchestra). I'm loving your reviews and that's rare !
Great video 👍 You should check out Somebody to love live from Montreal, also Under pressure live from Montreal
and Save Me from Montreal. The Montreal concert has the best video quality, the graphics are just insane for being shot in 1981!
You shood checkout don't stop me know
This was my favourite queen song for years and years. Untill I got back into them. Though its still up there with my favs
First time I've ever seen the official video.. And I'm 50, lolllll
Best ad ever!
"Does this man really didn't put age restriction because there's a lot of nudity." One mother said.
Think one story goes, they rentet the Bikes but after the bike rental service got notice, naked girls sitting on the seats, Qeen had to buy the seats or the bikes would not taken back, think in later years the seats got on auction for a benifts thing, hahahaha
The girls are naked bruh, it was the 70's, and it's art. UA-cam needs to re-fucking-lax.
Listen to Pepper by the Butthole Surfers or The Distance by Cake. :)
the song is about freedom to make your own choice]
React to SHOW MUST GO ON!!! Please
YES!!! The last song Freddie recorded with Queen.
@@cfinley81 actually mother love from the made in heaven album was the last song Freddie recorded with queen, although the instrumentals weren't finished untill after Freddie's death
@@samleighton4999 I stand corrected. Thanks.
