Hey Sebastián you should check out ARD AL KHALEEJ Fragrance House with your honest opinion on all the Notes and please let us know how to purchase in the United States and outside Europe
I’m a huge Pour lui fan I bought 125 glass sample bottles 10ml each bottle from 1984. Someone had a drugstore and closed and had all there inventory in a temperature controlled storage. They died and there kids were selling it all. I’ve bought this fragrance from mid 90’s and new and the color of the juice goes from dark brown in 84, to gold in 90’s to clear now. The original stuff is amazing
Zino by Davidoff is probably my fav older scent, its so masculine and comforting to me that I wear it to bed like a quick little spray like aroma therapy. The reformulation misses the mark of perfection that the old one had. But its close enough. I may try to find a vintage bottle of it and use it sparingly. Its amazing.
My hidden gem classic fragrance is STATEMENT by Etienne Aigner, released in '94. It's as cheap as it can get. They're selling it in drug stores here in Germany. But it smells so classy and sophisticated that even people who are used to niche fragrances could enjoy it.
There's something about the dry down on Dunhill Edition that really appeals to me and makes it worth much more than the $21 that Fragrancenet currently charges for it (and that's about $4 more than it was a few years ago!). Maybe it's because the mid and the dry down have a combo of my favorite notes - clove, cinammon, nutmeg, sandalwood, amber and musk. I'm sure many have the same thoughts I do each day and that is when deciding what fragrance to wear in the morning, should I go with a cheapie when I have so many expensive ones, even if I get more pleasure from the cheapie 4 hours later?
Great content as usual Sebastian. Here is one 80’s fragrance that might please fougère lovers: Jacomo de Jacomo. You can try it and see how it has evolved in case you used it in the past. Cheers!
90% of fragrances I buy now are either pre "early" 2000's or vintage..just way way better imo even the fact they've been re formulated they are just so more interesting than modern day perfumes..imo you could easily put most of the fragrances on this list in a bottle from any modern day niche house and get away with charging over £150..in fact I don't even think a niche house would or could create anything like a kouros in today's market
I wore a lot Paco Rabane and Zino Davidoff in the 80's. I remember Kiton for Men and didn't know it was still available. Will check for it. Thanks Sebastian.
After watching this and owning some of the fragrances I took Sebastians advice and bought a bottle of Caractere. As Sebastian says it is very old school in the way it smells. I managed to get a 50ml bottle for £10 from a Mail order catalogue with free delivery. I do not know what it is about the smell of this but it is very compelling. So much so I have just bought another bottle.
I just picked up a Pour Lui gift set from Macy's, on clearance for $20, 3oz + 6.7 shower gel. It smells great. Has a dark soapy vibe. Nice classic manly-man scent that is not over-powering.
Great video! Now this is content that is worth watching! For people that are kinda new-ish to their fragrance journey, this is the kind of video that really shines a light! Thanks! 👍
I own a few of these (Tommy, Cool Water, Bogart EdT, One Man Show, Floris No. 89, Bowling Green, Lapidus Pour Homme, and Pour Lui). I agree with your takes on them. They are excellent, one and all. If the rest of the list is as good as the ones I already have, then I need to pick them up.
@@andreidanielpetre as with most floris fragrances: decent longevity but low in projection and sillage. Floris scents are mostly understated, inoffensive and very very traditional & conservative.
Hi Sebastian. Today, I just received a shipment of five classic fragrances, and they are: Molyneux "Quartz Pour Homme", "Capucci Pour Homme", Daniel Hechter "Caractere", "Taxi" by Cofinluxe, and "Lomani Pour Homme". Today, I've been enjoying wearing the Capucci and the Molyneax. I believe I've smelled the Molyneax before, i.e. when I was a child in church in the 1990s, and I believe my maternal grandfather might've worn the Capucci back in the 1980s.
Ohh Sebastian, Tommy Girl was my first fragrance 😍 Then I followed with DKNY apple which i wore non stop for years. Im a bit scared to go smell them in store these days because i dont want to be disappointed 😅
OH MY... I'm kinda young with old soul! I have 13 of 20 hahaha.. thanks Sebastian, Versace L'Homme is the best from Versace! and all Bogart are super gooood!
@@andreidanielpetre The current version of the edtis also quite weak. As someone posted on Fragrantica, Dior should sell it by the liter! For some reason, my Eau Sauvage aftershave seems stronger.
Just got the OLR Pour Lui based on your review and if I recall I had a roommate in college that had it and I would occasionally “borrow” a spray before going out. Really a fabulous fragrance and I was able to get it for 21 USD for 3oz spray and then only 7 USD for a 6.7 oz body wash from The Aromi online.
My favorite is Bowling Green. Very sad that the fragrance has been discontinued. Unfortunately, I discovered it too late. Also among my favorites are Bogart Signature, Paco Rabanne pour Homme, Alfred Sung Homme, Fahrenheit, ... If you like Lapidus pour Homme, you should get Lord by Al Rehab. About ten euros for 50 ml. The fragrance is very similar to Lapidus Pour Homme, but I like it even better. I also like Lomani pour Homme very much. Very fresh and masculine and always wearable. Has similarities with Drakkar Noir, but again I prefer Lomani pour Homme. Furyo by Jacques Bogart is also super. Red for Men from Georgry Beverly Hills is also great.
Pierre Wargnye, the perfumer behind Boss Number One, also created Drakkar Noir and Van Gils (Classic). If you can find the Van Gils, check it out. The vintage version is a 10/10, the current version is still okay.
Supreme!! I used Kenzo Jungle in my early 20’s and sounded like revolution! Dad had Dunhill when I was much too child to appreciate, but the empty bottle has been there for a while 👌
Honestly the cologne I have always kinda had a soft spot for is Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene. I loved it as a younger guy going to the local dept store and smelling it and getting a bottle in maybe 1993ish. It smells so good.
Oh Grey Flannel! I remember that fragrance used to smell so elegant and sophisticated. Unfortunately now it's been reformulated that it smells like scented water, very diluted and nothing like the original. If you can find the older original version, buy the big bottle!
I wore it in the 1980's to work in the morning when it had some kick and lasted. Hours after SPLASHING it on, while poring over a report, I would be interrupted by its scent bubble around me. With Grey Flannel, it's all about the dry down. Put some on a tissue or hankie, and you'll want to smell it over and over again.
I can't thank you enough for this video. I'm very selective about my reviewers you are my favorite I think because we're the same age. Your references to your father resonate with me because mine was my introduction to Cologne also -- and our scent memories seem to run parallel. No one is talking about old school stuff. I've written to several reviewers requesting that they do what you have done here. Alas, they're all about Today and commercial releases. Sebastian you and I know that they don't know what they are missing! Thank you again so much. My favorite is Gucci Nobile!!
I still have the Oscar from I think the 90's and it hasn't denigrated at all - I also have Pour Lui and correct me if I'm wrong - but is it the same scent? They smell the exact same to me. Happy Bowling Green is up there - I recently purchased it again and it didn't disappoint.
Hi, really like ur content about classic men’s fragrance, I’m a fan of rediscovering fragrance from the older times and understanding how they evolves, would it be too much for me to request a video of iconic men’s fragrance that changed the industry and are most popular during that decade please! 🙇🏻♂️
To this old newbie, it's ALL new, and I'm particularly fascinated by the "new" (to me) stuff that's also OLD and classic! I got into this too late to have juvenile tastes, so I'm especially intrigued by the "maturer", even "challenging" stuff (think Geo. Beene Grey Flannel, for instance).
@@pradeep_sekar I have their Heritage, soooo classy. It's my "Sunday scent." And in a duty free shop I sniffed Guerlain's Vetiver and it did something to me no other scent, no matter how good, has quite done to me: it transported me. I mean, yes, I was really in another "place." It was like my whole body was permeated with the most refreshing, fragrant, airy kind of water. It was incredible. It was really like I'd gotten "inside" this fragrance and was floating there. Stunning. It's a must-get.
Just got today Oscar de la Renta. That thing is amazing for pennies. 80s quality in modern times. Has absolutely nothing to envy, on the contrary, to any expensive, trendy fragrance of today's. Niche quality!
A question! I've now got around 20 fragrances in my "palette", which I find to be more than enough for a variety of moods, weathers and whims. Naturally, my ignorance of what else is out there plays into my satisfaction with what I've got. Which leads to my question.... You must have thousands in your collection, along with the incredibly wide experience that brings. You mentioned in this video that you've been wearing the heck out of the Kenzo. Which makes me think, HOW do you wear the heck out of one fragrance without condemning thousands of others to relic-hood? To put it differently, with only 365 days in a year, and thousands of fragrances to choose from, how much of your own fragrance-palette gets a turn at bat in, say, a typical year?
@@zackbennett5609 I did get a sniff of the Luna Rossa Carbon on my last visit to the USA, at a Macy's. It was exquisite, hypnotizing. I do think I want to get that one. On the other hand, I sniffed Bleu de Chanel and it left me cold! Just couldn't imagine spraying that on myself.
Great question that I asked a couple of UA-camrs but could not get an answer. Maybe in his younger days he had a rotation of 50 but now with a 1000 perfumes there is no way that he can wear them all in a wear unless he uses 3 different perfumes per day every day. I think he just enjoys sniffing them...
Sebastian, have you ever heard of Paul Steward cologne? I bought it in the mid-70's. The most powerful pacthouli cologned. Ever. It was delivered in a box. Inside the boax was thick paper. The bottle was wrapped in more paper and bubble wrap. I could smell the scent inside my mail box. I could only use a "touch" One touch. I would buy it again in a second. Very few people have heard about it. Must be an East Coast thing. Paul Stewart was a men's store in New York. Sorry this was long.
17:17 I grew up in Spain, back when Esencia lasted well over 12 hrs. This is the kind of scent men would wear on summer nights out, featuring a level of potency unheard of these days. I cherish the bottle of the real strong juice that I bought in the early 2000s, literally the kind of fragrance that would pump you up and keep you feeling like a god for hours. Beautiful smell, in Spain this reached mythical status.
My favorite classics include: Knize Ten; Dior Eau Sauvage; Chanel Pour Monsieur; Caron's Pour un Homme, Yatagan, and 3e Homme; and Guerlain's Jicky, Habit Rouge, and Vetiver. I have newer formulations of all of these, but in many cases I couldn't vouch for the latest formulation.
If you mention Versace pour Homme easily Paco Rabanne pour Homme could be mentioned too 😉 Charactere is great for sure. Oldskool but caught me instantly too I think i need to check Santos. Sounds great from the Note Breakdown 👍😃
Great video Sebastian! Btw you're missing quite a few chapters (Versace L'homme, Bogart One Man Show, Floris 89, Houbigant Duc de Vervins, Kiton Men, Boss 1, Loewe Esencia, Oscar de la Renta)
I found this video to be helpful. I own about a few of these fragrances already, and I plan to try some of the other ones eventually. The ones which interested me the most were "Hugo Boss Number One", and the Daniel Hechter. To this kind of a list, I would include: "Lalique Pour Homme EDP", Givenchy "Xeryus", and "Jaguar for Men". Have you tried "Jaguar for Men"? I bought two new bottles of it earlier this year, and I think that it smells good and it has good performance.
Do you have a current bottle of Obsession for Men? I would suggest getting the current Obsession for Women edp. You'll be surprised at how close it is the men's version but with alot more power. I recently picked up a bottle of Dunhill Edition and really like it. I would say it's 15% Eau Sauvage, 20% Halston Catalyst and 65% Aramis.
Floris no89 reminded me that you should review Czech & Speake no 88 which seems similar but much deeper and richer; old school for sure being inspired by an Elizabethan era rose water formula.
Thanks for the great input regarding classics! Do you have or had Salvador Dali Pour Homme (1987), the first fragrance made by the great Thierry Wasser? It's available at discounters.
I recently tried Dunhill For Men and I was put off by it. To me it was just highly sour in a non-citrus way. It does not smell like "grandpa" to me - just unpleasant.
Not really classics here but two that aren't around, Nautica Competition (blue bottle) & Ralph Lauren romance.. Both of which are discontinued. Yet the women's Romance is still around, with tons of flankers.. I don't get it.. I also loved Gravity (frosted blue bottle by Coty) but it doesn't smell the same anymore at least from what I remember. Stetson Untamed was ok too.

I also own Jaguar for Men and really like it. I think it would be a good inclusion to this list.
Agree on Xeryus. I have four bottles from the second bottle design.
Jaguar for Men is very metallic, you need to like dihydromyrcenol to enjoy it.
Jacques Bogart all the way. Always manliest fragrances from this house.
Great list! I also really love Pasha Cartier EDT!
Antaeus and Arrogance pour homme are probably 2 of my favorites
I love the aroma of Carnation flowers.
Great review, although I don’t find anything similar between Lauder for Men and Aramis.
Noses are so unique!! :)
All are great I'm currently using Oscar pour lui
That oscar la Renta pour loui is awesome if your into the 80s old school smell.
I enjoy so much watching your videos I like your taste in fragrance 👍🏼👊🏼
😀
Hi how did you buy it all roja pergumes is very expensive
Ted lapidus, one man show, azzaro homme , rochas monsieur, Alain dillon, ck one, facconable faconnable for men, and dunhill edition
kenzo pour homme ...its simply amazing unique so ahead of its time even for today ...
Floris no89 reminded me that you should review Czech & Speake no 88 which seems similar but much deeper and richer; old school for sure being inspired by an Elizabethan era rose water formula.
OOH
fantastic list sir
Signature cap or not, excellent vid 😊
Bowling Greene and Essencia Pour Homme are total masterpieces, IMHO. I also Ted Lapidus Pour Homme and Oscar De Renta Pour Lui to be quite good.
So many good ones that still smell great along with some many fragrances that used to be so good but are bad bad reformulations now.
Of course I have Beene Bowling Green because the town I live in is called Bowling Green!
Interesting. Maybe too lemony astringent!
Marhaba all the way from Bahrain, thank you for an excellent video (as usual)...Caractere by Daniel Hechter was formulated by Alain Verjus
Great video! Loved it.
Boss i was wearing it today it’s nostalgic
Wagnier(sp) also designed Drakkar Noir with Guy LaRoche.
I am still using Oscar de la Renta pour Lui❤
It’s a good one!!
Hey! You should do a video on your top 10 unique fragrances. Fragrances that are unconventional and distinct but still alluring.
Good idea
amazing job! really interesting
Sebastian , impossible to find now but have you smelled Patou Pour Homme ?
Sebastian always providing balance, the yin & the yang 😁🙏
He just needs to discuss performance times a bit more and provide formula codes as well as batch codes.
The one and only Farhenheit by Dior, and also Eau de Rochas homme by Rochas
