I know I am being slightly optimistic, but looking at the other past fixtures from various Hong Kong youth teams last year that had delivered a string of poor results and performances such as the U23 team led by Szeto Man Chun that got thrashed by ten goals when they played Uzbekistan during the AFC U23 qualifiers which was the worst result to date. Bringing in Andersen to manage the U24 team for the Asian Games football showed the difference in what he was able to achieve in contrast to Szeto Man Chun. The Sapling Cup is still a great way to give young players the experience and opportunities to play first team football, but I do believe that more can be done and it really is going to depend on the HKFA and clubs as the future of Hong Kong football will depend on them and play a further role within their development and progress.

Cheung worked his way through the youth ranks where he won medals within Asian championships and I do recall that he won gold medal during the Junior World Championships in 2017 which is where he started making progress within the years that along with the hiring of an efficient coach Gregory Koenig and having a well done strategic plan that helped him achieve success by winning golds in Tokyo and recently in Paris. Also, you mentioned that results do not matter in your comment. If you say that results do not matter, how are athletes and teams (whether this is for football, rugby etc) suppose to analyse and learn what things worked, what things did not work and what things need to change and improved upon with their performance and in future championships?
