Classic Game Room reviews the SONY PSone video game console. Released about five years after the original, this smaller PlayStation plays PS1 games and works with all original accessories. Comes with a PSone controller and external power supply.
Back in the days you put a game in and it just played. Now its updates, installs, asking for a prenuptial agreement...
Yeah you are right that consoles is awesome and so comfortable to play
Those Were The Days
Oh come on fellas. Don't be hipsters. You know very well that old games are novel and fun, but new games will always provide more services. You're going to get bored real quick if you play pong endlessly.
Thats after cleaning the disk 5 times and pretending you didn’t care🤣
@@leightonmees1646 😂 I used to have a special cloth just for game discs.
The boot-up sequence for the Playstation 1 (PSOne) will always give me chills I think. :)
Yep sucks ps4 does not have any of this
twin10broter it does have a boot screen just no music
this boot up is legendary and perfect for its era.

if playing the games was your only concern you should have invested in your PC or gotten a Wii U instead of one of these 2 current-gen jokes of "consoles" - they are seriously just heavily restricted PCs that come with a controller. and this discussion has gotten stupid, so I'm disabling replies now.. lol
Fun fact: the original Scph 1000-3000 models had the trademark on the diamond. Revised models (scph-5000-9000) had the trademark on the “computer entertainment” part of the logo, and on the PSone the TM is at the same place, but says R in place of it.
PSone > Xbox one
***** He means the xbox one thats out now not the original xbox.the original xbox was cool.

Gaming consoles ARE specialised computers you bloody muppet.
Jan Trancer Růža (cough dreamcast cough)
Just me you bloody muppet?????
Well that's not really fair as the Xbox One was Microsoft's Sega Saturn an unmitigated disaster that killed their console business.
anyone else get chills when listening to the sound the ps1 makes when it turns on?
Yup, I regards it as the one the best start ups I have ever seen.
"I just use these PlayStation reviews as an excuse to play more Omega Boost. Nothin' wrong with that."
AMEN.

its starnad than!
Robin Klassen Yeah; the PSone isn't quite what the original PlayStation is. It's flimsier and some on-screen effects are output differently than on original PlayStation hardware.
I prefer the original PlayStation whenever possible.
thats right!

Barbie Explorer is actually a really great game. I have it on the P.C. My sister and I used to play it all the time. It brings back so many memories.
My grandparents bought one of these for me and my brother when it was still rather new, and I still have it and the games that they had us pick out when they bought it. It still works.
they should really “remake” CRT TV’s for retro gamers... consoles like the playstation 1 really look way better on CRT than on modern HD TV’s... I’m sure thousands of people would buy one... like a 50” CRT TV
I agree totally.
You'd need a crane or incredible hulk to lift it into your house 😂
I just bought my PSone slim two weeks ago and it's awesome having a PS1 again it fits my set up really nice being so small it doesn't take up alot of space and it just look freaking cool I love it.
So many great memories. I still have my PS1 and it works great.
I just picked up 2 of these yesterday.. i never got to own this model before and gave my fat one away.. but my childhood lives on this system..
love that boot up screen 1:23
This one of coolest things Sony ever did in early 2000 they Making a redesign version of PlayStation known as PSONE for sure And along that they Released this let’s teach it turn on power button we got ourselves portable PlayStation & how awesome this is How play Your Friends house want to go to
Woah the demo discs, the memories are just flooding back in...
Blaster master, breath of fire 3 and 4,raystorm and raycrisis. Ps1 classic memories.
I remember that was my first video game console PSone when I was 3 years old in 2004 back in Houston, Texas with Namco Museum Vol.1 is one of my favorite
Recommend getting a PS2 Slim console. Plays PS1 games as well as DVDs!
Finding the 8-inch LCD snap-on screens for the PS2 Slim is becoming more problematic, but mine has worked great and I use this as a mobile console for places with power outlets. When I was snowed-in at work, this PS2 with a small collection of favorite games (SOCOM 1-3, Virtua Fighter 4, Ace Combat 4, 5 & Zero, Onimusha, Black, Mr. Mosquito, Mercenaries 1, Ghost in the Shell SAC, etc.) was a GODSEND!
I remember buying the PSone at Walmart brand new. Mine had the detachable mini screen which is a must if you plan to take it with you on vacations. The little plastic nob inside the drive that holds the disk in place started to fall apart on me but I was able to fix it with super glue.
I wish he'd have mentioned the fact that the PSone doesn't have the cool serial port in the back that the original model does, but other than that, another solid review.
The size difference between the original and the slim is crazy. And That PS1 boot music :) Ahhhh the memories.
I find it funny that you reviewed this a coupla days after I got one of these at a resale.
EXPOSED!
Mark. We talked about this. No talking when the Playstation Mnemonics are playing!
oh my god omega boost, that game was so EPIC! it looked and played amazing, and still does to me, I wish I had my psone back with all of those delicious games
I had one of these. They're great. It was the only one I used in the living room because it was so small it wouldn't disturb anything when I hooked it up. I put it in a drawer under the TV and just took it out when I wanted to use it. I think it was only two cables. Three if you count the controller. It would just stay out of the way because it took up almost no room. If you're looking for a PS1 you really should just get one of these. They're pretty cheap and I don't think they overheat like the older models. I've also been told load times are faster but I don't know for sure. They seem to be on Twisted Metal at least. Most games are dirt cheap nowadays too.
Another great review from CGR! You really gave Barbie a face full at the end :)
I wanted to play games from my childhood, but i dont want a big console on my desk, so i bought the psone one and a av-signal converter so i can play it on my lcd or beamer in 16:9 i also connected the audio output to my suround system, which makes that boot up sequence sound so much more epic.
I wish sony would go back to white/grey and the more curved design like the psone it's such a beautiful appealing design, can't say i'm feeling the PS4 design
I know, when I saw a thumbnail for the releave of the PS4, I thought at first it was the PS2 Slim.
My second console when I played 3D games for the first time, the PSone, I still own it and I play it! Ape Escape, Speed Freaks, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil 1,2,3, Parasite Eve 2, many good games
my first ever console. This and the GBA got me into gaming
The way Mark pronounced "PSone" kinda sounds like "Persona", heh.
I remember when I got one of these new, it was the one that included that now very valuable portable screen. I used this thing a ton, good times. I always still preferred the first rectangular version of the PlayStation though.
That demo disc holds a lot of great memory's for me so does every demo disc I owned
Yes.... Omega boost! I bought my psone just for that have and still play it from time to time. Still one of the best space combat games over every played!
I love the start up sound of the ps one
When you're lucky to have both versions and the optional screen. Problem is my power cord is shorted out so I have to use a PS2 cord. I'm gonna play it tomorrow.
I love Omega Boost, especially the live action intro. I still have not beaten it though :(.
Fun fact: the PSone power supply also works on a JVC X'Eye. It's true!
should have also mentioned the reason to have a psone nowadays is for that legendary startup sound.
I prefer the original over this, but it's nice to have one of these around as well. I believe the main reason for Sony releasing this was to have a semi-portable PS which also has a DC power adapter and LCD flip top display. The PSone controller is different as well.
I've always wanted one of these with a portable screen
I actually bought one of these in the box a few months ago. I have seven games for it, all of which J-RPG's.
Some people say that this console sucks because of the graphics. Well, let me ask you this: since when have graphics mattered? I know plenty of games with amazing graphics that are mediocre at best. Also, if you think the graphics suck on the PSX, may I suggest watching some of the FMV's from Final Fantasy IX? Oh, and by the way, that PS4 you have wouldn't exist if it weren't for the PSX. You don't have to like the original PlayStation, but you most certainly should respect it for what it's done for gaming.
Back when they actually cared how a game console looked, it was designed so well, the ps1 box used to have tons of game pics on the back, it just looked like a game console box, not a media player.
ah yes, I grew up both with the original playstation model and the psone
I have that PS1. The games I most enjoy on it are Final Fantasy and Street Fighter.
so sad he quit i love his vids and got me to buy a nes
I dont necessarily like this guys personality but his voice is soothing
had that demo and barbie was the best ....i spend hours playing the demo...actually weeks because i couldn't afford a ps1 game...but it was awesome goddamn it
Man I had like 4 of these, they're incredibly power efficient and cute to boot.
Used to play one in my car with a portable dvd player.
First and only console I ever owned
Yugioh Forbidden Memories oh sweet memories on the Ps1
I have a SONY PSone but I do not have a Sony PS2 yet, I need to get the LCD Display for my PSone.
I had one of these. Best CD player ever.
I've got this with the screen and a car adapter. Screens a dud but still fun to play on
Still have one, with all the cables, and a couple of games. :D
To bad i have no controllers.....
When I first got mine, it came with a demo disc that included blasto. I loved it so much I bought it. Now the psone only reads discs if I flip the psone over.
Sadly I never really owned the ps1. I grew up with the genesis and I was born in 87. But now since I can get a ps one for pretty good price I may pick one up.
I used to have the old style PS1 but the laser wore out in it so i bought a slim ps1 and i still have it to this day put away in the closet
PSone was my third and favorite Playstation. My first 2 wore out from extensive and abusive use. They got carted all over town, knocked around, stuff spilled on them. The PSone lasted the longest of them all even though all 3 were very poorly treated. It is definitely the superior design for durability.
Wow i found a ps1 recently on craigslist
Robot Alchemic Drive!
I bought that at Rare pricing and I'd like it to become more Rare as time goes by!
Also review:
Warship Gunner 2
Baroque
Nightmare of Druaga
Mercenaries
the more people like those particular titles and buy them, the higher their value goes
I miss disc drives like the PS1's. No fears about the drive not taking in the disc. Just pop the top, put in the disk and play!
I have both the original and slim PSone :D
This was my first console! :D
I bought PSone few month ago :)
Pairs great with Bushido Blade 1 & 2. ;-)
Ahhhh demo disks! For some odd reason I miss them.
And that rhymes.
Spiderman 2 enter electro. Fucking beast. You should review that game.
This would be a great time to bust out Eiffel 65 My Console while I am playing Omega Boost and Bloody Roar.
the nostalgia :')
Omega Boost! best soundtrack eva
nice PAC man arcade game and the games look great
I bought Barbie Explorer for little sister. It was goddam expensive. The most expensive PS1 game they had
I have a golden memory card for the system
I remember very vagely my family owning a sega genesis when I was a baby I was like 2
The greatest console of all time!.
if your wheels on your sled break, how many pancakes does it take to cover a doghouse?
icecream. because purple has a butterfly in it
I got mine with a controller for $4
Where the hell did you find a ps1 with controller for $4??
the flea market (or as they call it where I live, the swap meet)
granted the PS1 lacked the thing that grabs onto the CD and the wire of the controller was cut where it enters the controller itself, but those were super easy fixes
EMCvids
paid 15 bucks for mine at a goodwill. only bought it at that price because it came with both controllers and looked brand new. it hade some nascar game in it that was scratch free, so i think whoever bought it played it for a day or two, then bought a ps2 and just put the psone in the closet. seriously, the controllers had not a spec of dirt on them.
My local game store has one,but its yellow :'(
I paid 200 for mine back in the 90s when I was a kid well my mom paid not me I was too young to work
I miss my PSone :'(
Out of all the consoles I have owned, this and the Wii were probably my least favourites. The opening sequence was rad tho.
Mr. Karnage what is the game you played at the end of the video ?
Why can't Lord Karnage's videos be longer! I want 10-12 minutes, that would be perfect, 4-5 is too short.
haha, I remember when they first announced this, it display the name as "PSone"
and I called it Pi-Son. Those were the days~
***** bored much? Find yourself a life will ya? Lol
Great video! The Barbie game was funny, haha.
I'll stick to my big PS1, thanks. At least it has a parallel port on the back so I can use cheat devices. My GameShark Pro relies on it, since it has no boot disc. There's also the RGB capability. Composite video is shit. You get bleeding pixels and blurry text because all the video data--color, brightness, contrast, sync--is forced into that one yellow RCA cable. S-Video looks way better than composite but the color data still all rides on one wire, separate from the brightness and sync. RGB, via SCART, JP-21, or VGA, is the best by far. The colors and sync are all on their own separate wires. Don't confuse RGB with the red, blue, and green component cables you find at Walmart. Those are YPbPr, which isn't true RGB because the green wire carries only brightness, contrast, and sync. Your TV uses the data from that and the red & blue phase cables to calculate green color data. It looks nearly identical to RGB, though.
gay
Wait, the PSone doesn't support RGB?
TheMamaluigi300 nope that's the only disadvantage about it I can think of
omg i thought i was crazy to think this system was real. i had that system
my 2nd favourite console ..
my best is ps2
Mine came bundled with Harry Potter and the PHILOSOPHER'S stone
+WH250398 My parents got me that for Christmas, too. Along with Chrono Cross. :D
George Vasquez
I also got a demo disc with it. And Stuart Little 2 :)
WH250398 Mine came included with the Summer 2001 demo disc. Atlantis, Spidey 2, and Monsters, Inc: Scream Team were my fave demos.
George Vasquez
Mine came with ps one 2002 demo disc. It included pink panther, tarzan, Monsters inc, and i believe alfred the chicken too.
+George Vasquez Monsters Inc: Scream Team was my SHIT when I was a kid. :^)
My only question is will the PS1 platinum games work in the ps1 slim in PAL?
I've had 2 PlayStation One's. The first one I had was back in 2000 and then I broke it. Then I got another one, and it broke in 2 weeks, there is a certain type of PlayStation memory card which can kill PS One's, so buyers beware, or just get a PS2
Mark will hate me for this, but Alien Resurrection the game was actually good. Had great sound design and graphics for its time. He should check it out (but obviously ignore the story! Ha ha XD!)
I still play ps1 games on my rusty ps2 slim))
i belive you can get a car adapter so you can play in the car using the click on screen
The PS2 Fat consoles allowed me to play my favorite 32-Bit games with faster loading times(EA games,MK Trilogy, etc.),smoother textures and a overheating free gaming experience. That's why I retired my PS console upon buying a PS2 Fat console as these bygone fond consoles are far too dated to me now!
The first thing i thought of when i heard xbox one is psone.
I own the original playstation, and its pretty awesome, the only problem is i don't know what games to buy for it.
I got crash bandicoot, resident evil, destruction derby and a lot of other games.
Troll4ever31 ._. you NEED mgs
The original Rayman
The Spyro games, the Syphon Filter games, the two Spider Man games even if your not a fan of the character the games are still great, Doom and Final Doom, Quake 2, the Resident Evil games, and Ape Escape.
Troll4ever31 ._.Driver and Driver 2.
Troll4ever31 ._. Toy Story 2. No joke, i'm being dead serious.
I laughed so hard when she got run over by the elephant. LMAO
Since both the PS2 and PS3 plays PS1 games, there is little reason to buy this console other than to play a good quick game of MK: Trilogy, Tomb Raider 2, and Red Asphult (which I play on donating one day with Broken Helix), since the PS2 and the PS1 is not as compatible with PS1 as advertises. There are a few games that works poorly or just doesn't work at all on the PS2/3. Then there is the fact if you get a gameshark/action replay so you can play Japanese games.
If you have a portable outlet. If not, then over half of the mainstream PS1 library is on the PS Vita/PSP for download via PSN.
You can play Tomb Raider 2 for $7 on Steam, as well as Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition for $20. Most PSone games were ported to the PC. Sadly, there were very few PSone exclusives that didn't have improved versions by later games. Crash Bandicoot is one, but the 64-bit saga sadly ruined some of the best 3rd-party IP's such as Contra, Final Fantasy, and Castlevania... :/
***** ..You don't need a portable outlet. The PSOne has a battery pack attachment that lasts quite a while.
The Wii U is more portable, though. All you need is the console, Wii U gamepad, Wii remote, and a power source, and you could play ALMOST ANY Wii game and a lot of Wii U games without a TV! :)
Yarumasi
interesting to know. clearly something i missed out on something growing up.
OMG PS 1 old good time.
Ah! Omega Boost is too legit
Is this model also plays PAL games?
