it would be cool if the perspective of the map was flipped but only for the dire players, that way both teams would start the game in the bottom left, and progress towards the top right
I've thought this for years, the thing is that I've always had much more dire games than radiant games, even across several accounts which seems really unfair since the winrate difference for me is like 15% between the 2. If I have 55% of games on dire that means somebody else must have 50%+ on radiant. What determines that somebody gets to have more radiant games? Their winrate will be higher and so they're going to enjoy the game more and if playing ranked they're going to get a higher rank because of that. It's a terrible system they need to fix, more important than anything else IMO.
That was the one og won Ti8, Ana bb to outpost to Rosh fight if I remember it right. And that advantage is like for a long time because dire outpost and Rosh pit hasn't been changed for a long time patches after patches until map expansion
As a carry player, I prefer and win much more on dire side because the camps are much closer in the dire top jg and you can make double stacks for yourself as you go plus you have the option to play near the hp regen well if you need the regen. Whereas radiant bottom jungle's camps are further away from each other and pretty much impossible to double stack with some exceptions.
same as me a support player cause in radiant there more sentry needed cause enemy support can either block small camp deward their big camp or place observe on cliff so you need to atleast bring 2 sentry to check a small camp cliff spot and 1 for block their big camp not to mention more for counter deward by enemy sup. while dire on has 2 spot to block camp and no natural good observer spot
I agree with everything you said here, but think there is one important factor in regards to ease of farming neutral camps near the mid lane. Radiant: The camp you stacked by hitting the ward in mid lane can be easily be dragged to the camp directly southeast of it, or vice versa. Psi blades along with other nukes can be used to clear both, or at least apply damage to both camps. This is very efficient. Dire: If you try to drag the camp that is north of your T1 tower to the north east camp close to T2 tower they will lose aggro and run back to the camp.
Valve needs to give the Dire a counter-advantage over the perks of the Radiant to balance things out more evenly. (More cliff ward-spots would be a great start)
Same, came back to Dota 2 after being away for almost 2 years, and I can't reason myself to play a 40-50min match every time to learn everything that has changed, so for now I'm a filthy turbo casual.
100% agree that it’s fundamentally the camera perspective. I doubt that matters much for pros, but for casual players it makes a bigger difference than one might expect
that's definitely true. I got a free dotaplus from crownfall, and it showed me that I think between 6 months ago and 3 months ago I had almost a 60% winrate on radiant but only around 40-45% on dire
Even though DotA2 incorporated the ability to switch the map position (so many misclicks from dire side happened hence why this feature was added), it is still not enough. The hero portrait and skill HUD are also a hindrance to the dire side as they see less of radiant side and can also cause misclicks. Turning the map from Left to Right rather than the traditional South West to North East angle would fix this issue as both sides will now suffer the same burden when fighting downwards.
@morfy2581 That will mess up with muscle memory when switching sides. Better off doing it side to side than the diagonal view so it is equal on both sides no matter what.
I play better on dire, because I play techies offlane a lot. And its easier to stack the camps, specifically the ancients below the tormentor when on dire side. Whereas on radiant side, you have to go out of your way to go up to where the tormentor stands, and use a quelling blade to destroy every single tree below the camp in order to stack above 2-3 stacks.
Wild Rift flips the map for the 'dire team', making the lanes inverted. At first I didnt really understand why they did it, now seing your video It makes sense. Playing on mobile makes it even harder for the 'dire' team to maneuver the camera and actually see things without the HUD in the way.
In the most recent battle report I had 56% winrate on Dire while only 47% on Radiant. I believe personally as I am a pos 1 main this difference stems from something you forgot to mention in your video entirely, being the safelane-side jungle buffs. Dire giving HP regen while Radiant gives mana is just not a competition at all, the safelaner can more leniently leave the lane if shit hits the fan on Dire due to the additional sustain given by Mighty Mines.
If the view angle of the map has an alleged effect upon winrate, would like to see camera rotation introduced to level out that vector, and see what happens.
A few patches ago my darkseer dire win rate was like 70%, I would skill surge first and surge one creep when they spawn and another when it gets off cooldown, crashing the first wave under their tower and making the second one crash in front of mine, creating a second safelane for my team.
In Dota 1 usually we hosted the game with my brother, and the host is blue the first player in the Sentinel team. So naturally we played much more on that side, so it feels more comfortable.
This is true. I have definitely noticed it! Playing on radiant is easier on eyes and consequently on hands. But i would say only one thing is particularly good for dire which is close proximity of its safe lane neutral camps!
Well, back in wc3 Luna was a night elf and night elves are generally considered to be "good guys". Well, aside from those times when some induviduals of that race tend to destroy the world
It made me realize on why in Pokemon Unite, I am always at the left side on main maps, or at the "Radiant" side in quick maps. I think it's because they intentionally changed the camera angles on whatever side you are on.
It is the camera angle. League tried to compensate for that and they found out that north side had better winrates in pro play where players learned how to deal with a worse camera angle. Outside of pro play, the winrate was higher for the south side even with the advantages that made the north side favorable in pro play. This is when league gave up on trying to fix this issue.
The perspective issue could easily have been fixed by just rotating the map by 90 degrees so that Radiant is in the west and dire is in the east (instead of south west and north east).
I feel the difference is more relevant the higher your skill as most of the advantages only come out if the enemy and your team play very well camp stacking better wards etc. More entrances to triangle only become more useful when smoke ganking for example
Even if you make dire and radiant a mirror copy sides of each other radiant will still have higher win rate, simply because of camera angle, either dire players should be able to flip camera angle or should add additional detriment to radiant to make side somewhat equal.
As an offlaner, I prefer playing on Radiant. It's just easier to contest the Dire pull for some reason, maybe its the terrain or camp distance but I just get there faster and vision is easier.
As we all know DOTA 2 map is asymmetric. I'm playing pos 5, and the biggest different when i playing at both safe lane is at radiant side they got single cliff near small camp so we can use it to warding and reveal all stuff. Meanwhile at radiant side without similar cliff we even need 2 observer to cover vision at this area
Radiant is intentionally better because first pick is also overpowered in captains mode. Dota balancing has always been geared towards professional dota as an esport. Its not because camera angles literally all 3 lanes are safer to play as Radiant and Radiant Roshan is far better because they can always take it on their side during day time
You forgot something I hate the most. As radiant if you play pos 5 you can block pulling hard camp that is impossible to 100% deward with one ward if you don't place it in the middle. Also this camp has many tricky spots that gives you time to deward enemy ward before they find yours.
As a support player, when I play 5 I feel uncomfortable in Dire. Like, I feel safe in Radiant, but in Dire I feel unsafe. And it's true that Radiant has better vision, even from the start of the game with that cliff in the safelane The green and the trees may be the reason why I feel safer when farming in the jungle Dire's secret shop is more strange to ward so without that thing that gives vision you don't know if you have enemies near In general I prefer going on Radiant except when I'm a 4 because for some reason I can't pull creeps on Radiant's offlane lmao
I believe I maintain a smidgen higher win rate on Dire still compared to Radiant. Dire overall for me is more comfortable due to some odd mental association of somehow Dire being uphill from Radiant. So I just naturally gravitate towards more aggressive plays as I cannot "fight gravity", just like a river rushing down a hill. On Radiant side I feel more on the defense and thus play less riskier. Overall I would say I feel the most "in my element" when I pick offlane on Dire side, just supremely comfy. Just some musings of an acoustic brain I suppose.
Wonder what the winrates are on games that have Thrones/Ancients on the East/West side(eg. the pokemon moba) instead of the traditional Northeast/Southwest.
I have higher wr on dire side actually. I'm not sure why but probably because of my a really specific advantage that dire have that I am taking advantage of a lot as a pos5 player which is I'm generally using the portal from top to bot to kill enemy pos1 on bot lane which easier to initiate when you are dire due to the tree placement of each side.
Meanwhile in Pokemon Unite, they've made that you're always on the left side, cause it's perfectly mirrored (with the Jungle and objectives) with your opponent side.
Same my lifetime is like 52.5 Radiant vs 47.5 Dire. When captaining league teams I would always take Radiant where possible sometimes even giving away last pick. Thay 5 % in the long runs is worth more than a single hero pick.
Counterpoint: Every single time my noob ass was on radiant trying to retreat and I accidentally click on the dire ancient on minimap while flicking the mouse so I start going the direction that gets me killed.
Radiants are good guys and dires are bad guys. So the plot favors a little bit more to good guys. Joking a side, it's just a what 'we used to thing" in my opinion few years ago my rad wr 53 and dire wr 47 but I realized I'm more comfortable on playing rad side because when i practice with bots i either choose rad or random so even in my practice games I'm unintentionally playing more on radiant side. So after noticing that I most play practice bot matches with dire selected and I become more and more comfortable on playing dire side and my winrate rad is lik 50.8 and dire being 49.2. And fun fact, there was a tournament in this year which falcons won, they had over 70% winrate on dire and over 20% on rad side.
This might sound silly but I think it's because humans tend to read/write from left > to right. We should ask Arabic who do it from right > left. It's possible that dire is more advantageous for them lol
I have a 100% winrate on magnus in dire and 0% in radiant. It's a bit of a co-incidence (just 7 games total) but I have messed up a lot of skewers on radiant because I ended up clicking backwards just a bit too far and ended up clicking the minimap... (btw I did use the minimap misclick protection feature but it doesn't work for more than 0.5s so the misclicks happened despite this)
If they think it is camera angle then why don't they allow 2 different angles in the settings that you can turn on and off during character selection and post selection strategy.

i agree with the camera angle being radiant sided. but im surprised i have a higher winrate on dire with 59%, 7.6% higher, mostly on mid as well. most of the games ive played are on dire anyway so i guess it evens out
Ever since they released the DOTA Plus battle report, my win rate on dire has been consistently 5%+ lower than radiant. I wonder if they could flip the perspective so that each team plays bottom up? EDIT: When I'm debating doubling down, my first rule is "Am I on radiant? Check." before I even consider picks.
My overall win rate is higher on the radiant aswell. But for some reason for the past year or so.. my Dire winrate is higher then my radiant side. I main offlane, and i mostly play Axe, Nightstalker and Centaur.
5:07 it comes down to hero pool. Someone plays heroes that are worse at radiant and are more suited towards dire map. I don't remember exact criteria, but it was something about farm patterns,i am herald 1 with 20 mmr so i don't care to remember such information i loose on either side cause i suck at the game and too lazy to learn it😄😄😄😄😄😄
i think there should be a mirroring happening at game, where both team are not looking at the same camera angle. Tekken solve this problem a while ago, the player see the game from different points of view.
thats why I played battlerite for a long time, your enemy team is always coming from your right side in the beginning, there is no left or right side of the map, your team is playing on flipped vision of the opposing team, both team move towards the right on their screen to get to the center of the map and fight
unbelievable that mobile LoL aka Wild Rift aka celluLoL has a camera flip mechanic (everyone plays with Radiant perspective and camera and the game does the math)
Aye, play Pudge or quite frankly anything with a longer skillshot. On Radiant I seem to connect more, whilst on Dire I tend to miss more often due to the camera. Or a big fat skill issue as some might say :^) I should probably get a better gayming chair
Bro the matchmaking system intentionally puts you against people who are smurfing and never lose the second you win a game you're not supposed to win, and that losing streak never ends. Up to sixty games in a row. Valve is corrupt and that never happens in League of Legends.
i have been playing since w3 dota and i agree with this honestly, playing on radiant or sentinel just feels like an adventage,i especially like to play as pos 3 and its very important to have good positioning hence i could feel the adventage more, like you said its definitely not a BIG factor but it slighlty affect mentality when playing
My winrate in dire is 57% My winrate in radiant is 52% I am a carry player. I believe that the dire side is much better for pos 1 because the neutral camps are closer to each other.
the camera advantage is big. I dont understand why wont valve take it into account and actually make dire side have better warding spots and jungle entrances to compensate. Instead they give those to the side that already has the camera advantage. I think if they make dire have a better map they can offset camera advantage and make it fair. Im just tired of seeing myself start at dire and knowing that my chances to win are so much lower
I play only Turbo because I don't have 1 hour chunks of time to waste every day. I have very little free time and if I can spare 30 minutes, then it doesn't cut as much into the very little free time I have every day, especially if it's a loss.

Man see red>Man anger
Anger fuels you tho??
@kiro253 it sure fuels my russian teammates. Thats for sure
man see dota > man anger

Solution make the map go from left to right similar to HOTS
As mid i love dire more because of the gold runes is closer
i remember dire having a really good jungle, but i guess they couldnt even have that
Why doesn't the camera just change spot where it looks like radiant but for dire. Like in reverse
Over a 378 games during the spring of 2024, i've had 54.6 wr on dire vs 52.2 wr or radiant.
I think mirrored matches like in mobile games (like Wild Rift) could mitigate this problem, or at least a little of it.
1:25 well i feel attacked T.T
Moving my mouse to the top right feel more natural to me than moving my mouse to bottom left
They shoud make it so that when you play Dire the camera rotates so that the Radiant side is up. I think that some mobile MOBA games do that.
Aye, play Pudge or quite frankly anything with a longer skillshot.
On Radiant I seem to connect more, whilst on Dire I tend to miss more often due to the camera.
Or a big fat skill issue as some might say :^)
I should probably get a better gayming chair
Across 7000+ games on my account, I have 50% winrate on dire and whopping 58% winrate on radiant. I just noticed how powerful radiant side.
How can I check that?
@@Marcusianery I am using dotabuff. You can check in game too if you have dota plus
1:25 , But whyyyy are you pointing out me :(((
I love playing turbo, and we need TURBO RANKED!
In the last 6 months I have 53.36% on Radiant and 55.05% on Dire. And Im immortal in rank if you think this is a low mmr anomaly.
My winrate in dire is 57%
My winrate in radiant is 52%
I am a carry player. I believe that the dire side is much better for pos 1 because the neutral camps are closer to each other.
I'm a carry player. My last Dota Plus battle report shows that I won 62.8% on Dire side and won 47% on radiant!
40% radiant 60% dire winrate.
I’m build different *cracks an egg*
the camera advantage is big.
Как говорил великий: "Красное бей - зелёное хиль"
I play only Turbo because I don't have 1 hour chunks of time to waste every day. I have very little free time and if I can spare 30 minutes, then it doesn't cut as much into the very little free time I have every day, especially if it's a loss.
