Hi Everyone! I've just made an update video here with 3 Different Ways to Fill Layers in Procreate!! Make sure to watch this video, then check out this new one! :) ua-cam.com/video/05SkqqgR62I/v-deo.html
One tip you missed with the color drop. Sometimes if your line art isn’t completely sealed, when you drop the color it can fill up the entire canvas as the color leaks out of the holes in the line art. You can control this by holding your pencil on the canvas. The color drop will go down after a second or two and before you lift the pencil off the screen you can drag the pencil left or right to adjust how aggressively the color drop will attack the edges.
Oh so that's how everyone that I've seen using Procreate colors. I just tried it and I'm legit shook cause it's easier to do than I thought and now I don't have to select areas of the drawing one by one to color it. Thank you so much
What you actually unknowingly taught me, was that you can adjust the Opacity Levels not only before the colour is aplied, but afterwards as well. You were doing it roughly around the 4:25/4:26 mark.
FINALLY! A VIDEO THAT ANSWERS THIS QUESTION! A lot of tutorials just show clipping masks/layer masks methods or dropping the colours directly into the linework. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I knew there was an unspoken painting tip that most procreate tutorials don’t talk about. They make it look so easy. This video is the definitely the secret to saving time in procreate. I definitely did my first illustration the long way, if I had seen this video beforehand I would’ve saved myself some time!!!
@@natalie9641 bro same😭 Dry Ink is my personal favorite and plus I normally do really thin lineart so texture brush + really thin lineart, the reference mode doesn't recognize my lineart so I have to manually fill everything in, but hey on the bright side, at least since we're doing it ourselves we know there won't be any white spots.
Bro you just saved me a shit ton of time. I usually duplicate my line drawing, then start filling in under it but sometimes looks messy because it can fill in the line color too so I’d have to color over it. Thanks man!
Ive been drawing for years on this app, probably 6 or 7... and I have never knew this. Thank you for being my procreate teacher! I am going to love drawing again.
I'm working to be a tattoo apprentice and I follow an artist who was trying to charge for this exact info. It took me a while to finally find your video but now I FINALLY know how to properly work with layers. Maybe I can now get their videos to learn their drawing techniques and focus on that now instead of how to use the app. Thank you so very very much from an aspiring career artist
willowcreek lol you aren’t the only one lol 😂 we are all learning so it’s great ! I been trying not to pressure myself to get amazing and perfect and just treat everything like a experiment and if something turns out nicely and I like what’s been created that’s a plus and I’ve also learned a lot through the process to do more and have a better flow later and maybe even in less time .
I watch a lot of video who's too long, complicated explanation and just utterly annoying and your video is the best among all of them short and straight to the point i really love it
I wish I had watched this yesterday while trying to remake one of my sons old UA-cam icons from a few years ago. Could not understand why the color drop would not stay within the outlined shapes. I had the old image you see here as the reference layer. I should have turned that off and switched my outline to reference! Your videos are really helping me and my son get the hang of Procreate and make some new art together.
Ahh thank you for explaining the reference layer a bit! I’ve been working with Procreate for a couple years now, and with every update there are more and more things I get behind on learning. One thing that I really enjoy is the Gaussian Blur tool! It helps when I’m doing lighting or glowy effects, immensely! I’ll do a couple different layers. Using my base shape, I’ll copy/paste it onto my other layers for the effect. Then change the shade of each layer- either very slightly, or change it to a different colour completely- and blur them to different degrees. Then, I’ll lower the opacity on most of them, and merge them all into one layer. Perfect glowy effect, backlighting, or direct light!
holy moly your video is so useful!! i looked everywhere for a colorful guide because mine is filling the entire canvas!! but your video helped me so much!!
Brandon Prather-Young there could be two reasons - 1. You haven’t set your outline layer to reference (by mistake perhaps) or more possible reason 2. Your outline layer has holes (even a tiny hole in the outline layer can make it ‘leak’ into the whole background. I have a tutorial fix for that in my Procreate 10 tips for beginners video - please watch it, it’s in the section where I have a rectangle at the centre of the screen with a hole in the outline. Hope this all helps! Cheers!
WOW I’ve been struggling through Procreate for a few months now and just discovered your videos! Let me tell you, they’re a game changer!! Thank you so much for these tutorials!
Thank you so much for breaking this down. Ive been playing with procreate for awhile and have seen people do this but have never been able to figure it out.
Thank you so much! This will really save a ton of time for me. I used this technique in Photoshop, but I didn't know how to do it in Procreate. Thanks so much! I can't wait to try this! ❤️
Thank you so much for your tips!! I always struggled with digital art because there wasn’t any basic tutorials throughout the years only those so-talented showing how to do their work rather than giving example like this!
OMG you have no idea how much time I’ve wasted coloring in line art with the brush tool! Thank you so much for saving I don’t know how many hours of my life in the future!
I recently started using this program for anime-style characters I make, and this will definitely speed up the coloring portion. Now I just have to get the initial outline layer in the first place. I don't draw often, so I'm not as steady with my lines yet. So far they're still as choppy and segmented as my sketch layer.
😢😢😩😩 with 2 kids under 2 I don’t have a ton of time to do my art like I use to. So this just changed everything for me. Thank you channel owner and UA-cam recommended
OMG FINALLY SOMEONE FINALLY EXPLAINS IT!!
