Discover the Hidden Gems of Ecola State Park 🌊 ⛰️

We visit the scenic and historic Ecola State Park just north of Cannon Beach, Oregon. We'll start in Cannon Beach and head into the park to get to both Ecola Point and Indian Beach. As we pass through Cannon Beach we'll pass the northern section of the town and pass by many of the galleries, shops and restaurants in town.
The park covers around 9 miles of coastline, but most visitors stick to the most easily accessible stretches. Ecola Point is in the south part of the park. Movie fans will recognize it as a filming location for both The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop. Ecola Point offers beautiful views of Haystack Rock and nearby Cannon Beach.
Ecola Point used to have a viewing platform, but the ground below it proved to be unstable. It has been closed. The instability of the land approaching the park has also led to occasional closures of the park to vehicle traffic. In 2022, a landslide wrecked the road leading to the park. And it is such a narrow and windy road that RVs and trailers are not recommended. In recent years, the park has closed to overnight parking, making this a fairly RV unfriendly state park.
We'll also visit Indian Beach. Like Ecola Point, Indian Beach has been featured in some popular movies. In particular, the original Point Break and the first Twilight movie used Indian Beach as backdrops. Indian Beach is just stunning. It feels secluded. We went on a brief hike to get a better view of the beach. Our path went through tree-covered sections and over a small creek.
If you can visit Ecola State Park, it is worth it. We have been three times and look forward to coming back soon.
