As a dad to a 5 year old girl this makes me cry nearly every time.
@Bruno NISHIYAMA VARGAS hes talking about his daughter not the girl dancing
My daughter is almost two, and this video makes me cry every single time.
To all the single dad's out there, we got this!
The bit where the girl does the flip and the dad goes "Yeah, I'm not even going to attempt that one" kills me every time
The fact that I come back to this one every year, it’s just so lovely
I love this song and how the dad was watching the hole time and he showed her how to do it and they danced together it was so sweet
I miss my father so much. It’s been 20 years (I was 7 years old)but I miss him even more as time passes. He is still watching over me. I wasn’t going to go to my convocation because I didn’t have enough money. Suddenly I got a call from the bank telling that I can get a saving he has been doing for me if I wanted. All these years he was there for me whenever I needed his support. He was so thoughtful❤ He was a soldier so he knew his fate but he made sure that I have a good life even if he’s not here. ❤ My only hope is to be his daughter again❤
The animation is so flawless I could hardly believe it was stop motion. Incredible work!
Apparently they used some CGI just for the faces, but the rest is stop motion! Incredible work.
It's a technique where they combine motion capture and physical stop motion
As a single father with a young daughter, this was well received by us both. Excellent BBC. Keep it real!!!
I just happened to hear this song at Tesco just now and it make me think of this. Such a touching mini story of a dad apparently single and struggling with work who looks like he is not paying attention, but was the whole time.
I can relate to this. I work shifts and miss so much of my kids plays, events and such. It's an up beat song and a good feeling advert. I'm gonna rethink my job and spend more time with my beautiful family.
make that your new year resolution. you will never regret a second of it.
I’m in England, visiting for my first time from America. Watching BBC for the first time and this commercial just came on. Made both myself and my friend put our phones down. Love it.
LanceTheDriver it's not a commercial, the BBC doesn't advertise as it gets public funding from the licence fee and these are called trailers and they come on before shows where the announcers speak over them
We do amazing stuff like this all the time in Britain...
Google MESSIAH by Helena Softley....or WHY? by Jasmine Lamport........and try not to grab the kleenex box.
Prop Damage
So you'd like all your TV stations be funded the commercial way and example in kids' shows there be 5min of toy commercials every 10mins?
Publicly funded, educative non-comm stations like BBC (or YLE, the "bbc" of my homecountry) are important to balance out the overlycommercial, shallow crap that most cm TV channels barf out these days...
This is beautifully written, and as a Dad of Sweet young lady who is a dancer, this touched my heart and shows that some of us Dads who sometimes don’t seem like we are paying attention, we are, and will always have our Daughters(Or sons) backs❤️
We watched this in class and me and my teacher were crying! Then I showed it to my dad and my dad said notthing and cried and hugged me!
Best Christmas advert of 2017 hands down
teenage dirtbag baby it's not an advert it's a trailer for the channel because the BBC doesn't advertise it gets licence fee money
Collette Post it's not even a trailer it's a ident. Don't act smart
Remember to spend this Christmas with family everyone it's a gift that we sometimes take for granted.
love mint best time to spend with family
I do feel that Christmas is a sad time for people that have lost loved ones before Christmas, so I will be thinking of those that are unable to spend Christmas with loved ones...
Its awful it's looks just like a dream disco nothing much to do with Christmas because Asians don't so Christmas
it's been years, and I am still crying EVERY single time I watch this video... Such a masterpiece!!! Bravo!
This father & daughter ad felt so close to my family, as this was the first Christmas Dad and I had on our own after my mum died. My Dad works a lot too, but Christmas we had time together to really reflect.
Advert makes me cry every time
Best thing that's came from the BBC in a while
Yes, the BBC try hard when they need to get their ratings up over Christmas. We are just viewing figures and licence fee payers to them. Any deeper message to come out of this advert was just an accident on their part. The reality is that they would prefer us to be watching television and not spending time with our families.
Omg what a great dad
Based on MY Dad!!!!.....45 years ago he and my Mum had very little money for Christmas presents one year, so he bought his three sons second-hand bikes, stayed up all through the night after hand-painting all three bikes the same colour and even put some paper snowflakes around them in the morning and held us back from going into the lounge in case Father Christmas was still there.... and screams of three boys rang out rang out as we found them!!!...a room filled with a rare commodity..."EXCITEMENT!!"
The following year i went to his works Christmas Party for parents and children and as i went up to sit with Father Christmas to be given a present, i looked in Father Christmas's eyes and suddenly realised at that moment that Father Christmas was MY Dad...he leaned across and said some words i never forgot..."I KNOW YOU KNOW IT'S ME SON...but don't tell anyone ok. They probably would think you are crazy".
He's 84 now and after this BBC Advert touched me deeply i gave him an extra hug this Christmas and said "Merry Christmas Father Christmas..a promise is a promise...i never told a soul".
He smiled at me, hugged me, looking at me with those same eyes like 45 years was yesterday and said.."Good lad" and winked at me.
FATHERS should all be this way with their children.
Will always love you Dad.
Just incase you guys are wondering the song played throughout the animation is called Symphony by Zara Larsson
I've looped this for an hour and I've picked up every little detail they've put into it! Absolutely gorgeous story telling!
Why are my eyes swelling up with tears on seeing this 🥲❤️
I've watched this so many times, and each time it reduces me to tears. As dad of 3 I completely relate to this.
Simply brilliant.
Who animated this? It's absolutely gorgeous!
Lauren Bee film director Elliot Dear. He did The Bear and the Hare for John Lewis too.
'Working on the production with BBC Creative and Blinkink were puppet makers MacKinnon & Saunders (Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie), set builders Clockwork Frog (The Pirates: An Adventure with Scientists - Aardman/Sony), Lead Animator Dan Gill (Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs and Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa), Director of Photography Toby Howell (Fantastic Mr Fox) and the lead CGI artist was Rune Spaans (Trollhunters)'.
What an amazing, beautiful, well animated advert. Absolutely love it! Really lovely message. Kudos BBC
I often come to watch this to get perspective when I'm having a bad week. It's a beautiful advert and as a Dad to a little dancing girl it makes me cry every time.
Dancing backwards on a frosty footpath; I too like to live dangerously.
Moo Moo, did you know Michael Jackson dance backwards, it was called the Moo walk, lol
Just goes to show that you never know how much your parents may be looking on with pride, even if you don’t see it. He knew her act cold even with all the distractions. Even when life tried to get in the way, she was number one.
Favourite ad at the moment. Just when you thought Dad hadn’t been paying attention. I love the bit where he refuses to do the flip and just shakes his hand like “not happening”. Such a feel good ad.
We rarely see single fathers in commercials so this beautiful
it made my mum cry i love it best advert
Ignore the prick above.. it was nice wasnt it... regardless the colour of their skin!
No she isn't....she's a mum.
...and you'll understand her emotion one day.
Oh so you little ilk, had my comment removed. Why. Cut a nerve?
What did your mum do when Lee Rigby was beheaded?
What did your mum do when kids were reduced to bloodied piles of pulp in Manchester?
What did your mum do when muslims parked a vehicle on people in Westminster and jumped out stabbing?
But by all means. ENJOY the multicultural BBC shitshow.
This is my favourite christmas advert ever. This is the first christmas with just me and dad, and to have a father daughter relationship as the focus brought me to tears.
This really does lift your spirits
The BBC have actually done well with this advert, i can sit and watch this over and over, i love it
Thank you BBC for making this heart-melting video available to all of us forever on UA-cam!
I show this short to my uncle who is like a father for me, and he remember every single time that besides his work, he moved mountains to be in every single school act were my cousin doing a presentation, and memorize every single action to help them.
for me this short is part of his and her lifes.
This short makes me feel so happy. I remember watching this before and I loved the bond that the daughter and the dad have.
Still one of my favourite Christmas adverts
Everytime i listen to symphony it always reminds me of this beautiful ad and it shows how impactful it is
This video makes me cry every time I see it. All I can think of is what I wish I had with my dad when I was a kid.
I'm addicted to this sweet commercial! I've watched it so many times...it so heart warming and eye opening!!! Great Job on the concept! Love it!
Damn, this makes me cry. Sometimes its hard to get the balance right.
It's April and I still watch this. Contains the only two things that really matter, music and love.
I love this add!
..........and so you should. Diversity is good. White is bad.
Such a meaningful piece. Holiday inspired, focused on music and dance with a strong showing of togetherness and unanticipated support. Not to mention the animation and dance moves are fire. A lovely, very significant snapshot of fatherhood and the innocence/dreaming of childhood. Investment like this when a child is so young and impressionable will undoubtedly set them up for confidence and passion for the future. Relatable to anyone and hopefully thought-provoking for everyone. The simplicity of connectedness at its finest. Thank you for this!
At least someone here gets it. For many people Christmas is, at its core, about family and the people closest to us. You don't need snow, bells or Santa to be about Christmas.
In the UK, most non-Christians celebrate Christmas. Most non-Muslims do not celebrate Eid or observe Ramadan. Was Christmas ever an exclusively religious holiday? Given its pre-Christian origins, that seems doubtful.
This is simply beautiful. Hats off to the creative team - you hit a sweet spot. Moved me to tears...
There's nothing that can take families place. Family is forever, cherish it forever
Still watching this in 2019. Still brilliant
I've watched this so many times, I love the "sets" a truly cozy home! I love this story of a father and daughter. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT :)
Really adore this. So many emotions. Excellent.
my wife showed me this today and cried a lot, she lost his dad 1 year ago and he was just like that man. huge like shreck but also big heart. miss you big man
This is amazing. I remember watching it last year one of the best adverts from the past few years. Simple yet perfect.
Thanks Phillip, for making me miss my dad and cry lots. 10/10 ad.
I LOVE THIS!! I love how the dad supports his daughter at the end and when they both dance together it's so cute!! =)
anyone else obsessed with the little beat play she did with her dad's vest? That was fire 0:36
I just love this video. It has me smiling from ear to ear. Family, make time for your love ones, let them know you love them, show them that they are most important, more now than ever before.
i dont know how it manages to make me cry everytime
It's December now, so obviously it's time to watch the best xmas ad ever made again. Never been beaten, this. It's wonderful.
This still makes me crumble and miss my little girl so MUCH!! It's been five years now and EVER day hurts.
This makes me cry every time I watch it. He WAS watching. and thatface sh3 made when he came out. thank you for making this 😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤❤
I love things like this... it really proves that something doesn't need needlessly convoluted dialogue, unnecessary exposition, etc. to gets its point across. This short animation tells a story in only 2 minutes with nothing but the animation and the soundtrack, and it's still incredible. I had forgotten I added this to my Favourites list here on UA-cam, but I was so happy when I came across it again.
I don't care what people are saying this advert is beautiful and makes me cry everything I see it. It does show the meaning of Christmas as family is the only thing that matters
Reminds me of me and my dad
1:34 my dad and my uncle's at a party
Better than any of the supermarket ads. Wonderful song, amazing animation and a beautiful message. This is part of the reason why I seethe when people slag off the BBC. Thank you.
Matt Broughton because some hate BBC News and these idiots forget that BBC is much more than a news company
Without doubt, one of the most wonderful cartoons, I have seen for a long long time. Well done beeb. If this doesn't win some sort of award, there's no justice.
BRILLANT BRILLANT BRILLANT !!! As a single parent myself i so appreciate this .. im so glad they did it from a Dads perspective for once as its not only mums who are look after their kids !
This is so lovely, I’m in tears ❤️ Happy Christmas! 🎅🏻
My dad passed away when I was 19, he would do this for me in a heartbeat. 33 yrs old and the pain never goes away....😔. Miss you Papá, thank you for the video 💕
Jesus loves you dear, all is well, lean on Him and He will take all the pain away, He loves you so much ❤️
I shed a tear watching that. Still the best Christmas promo I've ever seen.
For me, still the best Christmas advert to date.... it just defines true Love and how important we are to one another...
I love this. The animation, and raw talent in the production of this is amazing. Happy Christmas :)
This is a great look at BBC One Christmas and I like it
Who knew eight notes could bring a person to tears?...coupled with the fact that this could be anybody's daughter, sister, niece or friend.
I love this BBC ad. They should use it every year, it always makes me cry!
Who the hell is giving dislike to this amazing video? Surely, they are heartless and human less
White English people who are fed up with being systematically written out of their own country's culture and history.
Oijan Hallidri Because they disliked this video doesn't mean they are heartless
Brick Missing
it's an advert and a good one. Lose the chip on your shoulder, get over yourself and just enjoy the simple message of be with and support loved ones.
+Martyn Hood What's it advertising? What's its purpose? Seems like social engineering propaganda to me.
so so so so so so so cute
So so so so retarded. And also the reason why we've been named acid attack country of the world.
Just saw this again 5 year on. Moving and memorable piece of creativity by the BBC.
My computing teacher showed this to my class, because of how much work went into it. It's truly a great video, with an accurate sweet theme. Well done BBC One, that's all there is to say.
I love the animation in this! The stop motion with the bit of CG is really nice. Cute and heartwarming story, good music. My favourite Christmas ad this year by far :D
I absolutely love this so much it is so adorable
This will forever be my favourite ad
Can we all just agree this brings a tear to eyes
When i saw this animation it blew my mind, so so so cute!!!! Cant wait to see more💖💖
I the grand scheme of things our lives in this day in age are busy, challenging and difficult. For all of us its very easy to get caught up in work commitments and things we do to support a family. We are distracted by so many things that we can lose sight of the things that matter. I have found that to be true of myself and being a dad of three young children I don’t want to miss those precious moments I have with them. Finding time to be with your family and show them that you care and take interest in what they are doing and helping to build a life is why we do it no matter whether it’s Christmas or not. We have one life folks let’s make the most of it. God bless.
The most magical part of this video is that the little girl's father was taking notice...and the best bit....
HE LEARN'T THE WHOLE DANCE!!!!
So much love for this. BBC Creative should be given Best Animated Short for this masterpiece. Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it.
I love this. This was the best advert by far this year by anyone. Brilliant. Where's the bit at the end though? I like the rest of it.
Absolutely LOVE this. Can't understand the complainers. It's about what's important in life!! Christmas isn't all about tinsel, snow and glitter. Plenty of parents will watch this and get the message.
I do tend to agree with you. Political correctness has gone bonkers in general, and that Christmas is about the birth of Christ. For many, It's also about connecting more closely with family and friends. For me that's what this video tapped into. I guess they can't cover everything.
Whoever was involved with this little film I appreciate you dearly. The message you've shared should be celebrated each year for why we celebrate Christmas together. Happy holidays everyone who might read this :).
My favorite video when i was 6, now im a teenager which makes it sad. This video gave me confidence when i had to sing in our school, and the song i chosed was this. Symphony 💗
The fact that the dad KNEW the dance proves to show how he was watching her the whole time
We Dad's always are...my daughter was stolen away by Parental Alienation. Manipulation on another level.
This video always reminds me of us dancing together.
im not liking because it is on 69 likes
Jesus loves you:) Please then to Jesus while you have a chance, He loves you very much! He knows your pain and loves you and can heal you from it - if you let Him:) I hope to see you all in heaven one day
@@sonicfoxxmusic4281om so sorry that you are going through that
