Awesome build! My only critique is why couldn't he build the waist guns offset from each other? That way there's room for both figures to increase playability and it's still accurate. They started offsetting the waist guns with the B-17G model. Such a minor critique shows how awesome this build is! I've flown in a B17 before and this looked dead on, interior included!
I'm buying one because my grandfather served on the B-17G Ruby's raiders. This looks great, guys! Keep up the good work! Please have this out during summer!
Alright I'll try to give as much info as I can remember (which is not all because my memeories are rapidly depleting) The B-17 was part of a contest that was Started by the US government, A lot of aircraft manufacturers participated. In the day of trials the prototype caught fire, but the UK wanted it anyway. As fitz said there were 25 missions but later on they bumped it to 35+. The biggest weakness in some of the earlier models (B-17 D, E and F) there was barely any protection in the front and a lot of Axis pilots (probably an A6M Zero for the Japanese and a Bf-109 for the Germans) used this to their advantage but it was later resolved with the making of the B-17G (the aircraft in this video) A lot of the casualties for the B-17s over Europe weren't cause by enemy aircraft but mostly German 88mm Flak. A lot of the times these bombers went without escort fighters until 1941 with the introduction of the P-51. The Aircraft consisted of 10 crew. Pilot, Co-pilot, bombardier, navigator, Top gunner, Radio operator(also somewhat a dorsal gunner as the window near their head could have a 50. Browning machine gun placed there), port and starboard waist gunners, ball turret gunner, and tail gunner. The aircraft wasnt pressurized (pressurized bombers didn't come till the B-29l so the crew had to wear really bulky flight suits and breathed through oxygen tanks. The entire aircraft, like most at the time, was controlled by wires, the only set of hydraulics belonged to the landing hear, the nose turret, ball turret, and too gunner. Also one of the first bombers to have a Norden bomb sight. These were also the first aircraft to encounter the German Me-262A. So that's about as much as I know Edit: also forgot, the top gunner was also the flight engineer
I saw this in person at your store in Mall of America! I got to talking about tanks with the guy that was working there for probably half an hour. You have me wanting to go back to Minnesota just to see it again.
2:40 : the B17 was never used in the pacific theater, only in the Western Europe (mostly over Germany and France). Though, the B-24 was used in all fronts, it is my favorite WW2 bomber, can't wait for you to make a lego model of that !
Well, early B17s maybe (i know A and B models were based in Pearl Harbor and were destroyed by the Japanese). But i haven't heard about any B17 Bomber Squadron in the Pacific, only B24s and B29s (and some B32s at the end of the war). Maybe some B17s were used in the pacific after the end of WWII but i haven't heard of them as well :)

A note about how far the waist guns protrude inside the aircraft. That's accurate, however, the waist guns were not directly across from one another. That placement allowed a little freedom of maneuver, but the gunners still had to do a complicated dance with one another.
