Awesome video! I would love to see a full shot of the finished painting at the end though. Thanks for sharing the process I love the bold color choices
Oof! Very few, and I mean very few painters can handle a high chroma palette with such aplomb. And your tiling man… It’s a beauty (great sitter too!)… You’re a rare bird sir. Only thing that bugged me a bit was the highlight on the second eye, I might’ve knocked it down just a touch, but hey, in my dreams I can handle colour like this, my heavy hands turn this entire palette into desaturated mud! Subbed. A brilliantly gregarious, authentic portrait. Sustained applause… 👏
That's awesome! Much thanx! I will definitely do more of these.... along the way.... alla prima is definitely all out approach. The turning color to mud is what happens when we over mix... which tends to happen when we stare into each individual color note too long. Instead stand back and squint or blur your vision.... see the 'whole'.... then flash your focus for a millisecond at the note you are wanting to capture. That fleeting moment is your chance to see the color note in relationship... not in isolation. This will help in seeing its color identity as it is different to the others. When we stare at a color note on our subject for more than a second.... we lose context... we lose the 'whole'... we lost the relationships, and instead see it in isolation and have nothing to compare it to... once this occurs we see every color in the rainbow in that one now isolated color note... and seeing every color in the rainbow in that one note will lead to over mixing... and then walla! Mud.
Amazing content! I'm from Brazil and enjoy your work for a long time and it's such a big learning experience to be able to see your process! Thanks a lot for sharing!
AMAZING video, just the style of painting I admire so much! Please make more videoes, I will look forward to the next 😊❤ Nicely done With the timelapse and your calm voice.
Your videos are amazing, thank you Kerry! 2:27 This is my first exposure to Henry Hensche, he's brilliant! What was the book of his that you read? Thanks again!
Fantastic job. I loved it. 👋👋 I am fond of painting portraits and I would love to correctly understand the colors to apply them on the faces. I join this channel, thanks.
I didn't really study the Charles Bargue plates but I sometimes teach them as the principles are so good. They can be sight size... or even comparative measurement if one is so daring! (larger than the print)
Hi, yes... thank you! I do plan on putting out some tutorials for sure... the plan to build up this channel and then start doing online workshops that are recorded. I'm not sure exactly when that will happen.... but not too far off :)
This is quite a nice painting in my opinion. As I love color I think this style of painting puts color where it deserves, it reminded me not of Van Gogh at first but Gauguin instead and the fauvist movement painters. Delightful for me !!!
@@paintkerrypaint no, it’s lovely at the end of course- but there was something special there around 7min. Like brighter? My imagination was left to play?
hmmmmm... so true. Try taking white off of your palette. Not sure how well this would work as your only way to lighten would be yellow. But another tactic might be every time you lighten with white (value) is to also consider what the color change is (hue). Objects also change color as they turn toward or away from the light, or as they go up and down the value scale. Using analogous colors can also be helpful, such as shifting from green to yellow or blue to purple, rather than mixing opposites like orange and blue which make mud. Black is also a good color to remove from your palette when practicing color. Cheers!
great painting great sitter. the color is my cup of tea...
I love it! The paint, the explanation, everything. So inspiring, thank you so much 🤩
What a fun painting. I appreciate your instructive narration. Love it!
Looks awesome. Great job mate. From Australia 🦘

Ya maybe my next painting project too - high chroma color palette

I love your use of the colors!! ❤

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
While Alla prima roughly means "in one sitting" it isn't French but Italian
yep... got it... it's on wax... too late! But thanx for the correction :)
I love it!

Do you have a different paint brush for all of your colours?
Love your painting technique
Super painting
Real nice Kerry.

❤❤❤ you are best teacher.... Sunscried please upload more
Thank you, I will !
❤❤❤
Amazing video! How did you studied Charles Bargue plates? In a lot of ateliers, they are used for sight size drawing method.
I didn't really study the Charles Bargue plates but I sometimes teach them as the principles are so good. They can be sight size... or even comparative measurement if one is so daring! (larger than the print)
I love it, what book do you recommend from charels bargue ?
Charles Bargue: A drawing course. It's his only book as far as I know.... definitely the most popular and definitive.
Great stuff! This is the third video I’ve watched, any chance you would put out tutorials? I would definitely purchase them!

5:53 can we get Andre’s social link? Really insightful and calming commentary!
yep! instagram@melchor_andre
Alla prima is Italian, not French. Other than that, amazing video, thank you ;)
yes.... you are correct on that. I mixed up my old master origins... and obviously I do not speak either Italian or French.... : D
Man i really liked it around 7min without all the details as well
I knoooowwww.... I often realize that after I view the video back.... whatcha gonna do... :p
@@paintkerrypaint no, it’s lovely at the end of course- but there was something special there around 7min. Like brighter? My imagination was left to play?
I think alla prima is Italian ?? Not French ?? But this video is awesome. I love this style!
You are correct.... too late now.... oops
Please attach Andre's social media links; I'd like to check out his work.

I also added to the description... thanks for the reminder!
You could have stopped earlier, would have been even stronger!
Number 1 mistake (an exceedingly common one!): the habit of putting too much white in every color.

Nice work 🙌 I follow you on Instagram and saw your post about your channel here. I look forward to your next video 🙂
