a great song, a great portrait of a vivid city. I am from Germany, my girlfriend lives there, I visit her three times a year. We always have a great time.

I got off the plane and entered the airport and when outside I was greeted by a golden fat boy statue waiting for me. I knew then I walked into the depths of evil and all I wanted was to get out ASAP!

This song was written/sung by ABBA, Murray Head was only the guest rapper. ABBA did an amazing job here -- the refrain into the super dry, tight mix on the vocals at 0:38 hits different. The voices feel right next to you with ABBA's unorthodox harmonic style.
From the Internet: "One Night in Bangkok" is a song from the concept album and musical "Chess" by Tim Rice, Benny Andersson, and Björn Ulvaeus. British actor/singer Murray Head raps the verses, while the chorus is sung by Anders Glenmark, a Swedish singer/songwriter.
I love the city. If you could afford to go anywhere around the world, especially if you're an American, get out of CONUS. GO TO THAILAND 🇹🇭 YOU WONT REGRET IT

I was looking for THIS cut of the song, as it's the best, and it's the cut I remember hearing on the radio back in the 80's. I decided to watch the video for $#!TS and giggles, and found it to be a tasteful, colorful video edit that fits very well with the song. I wish some original video scenes of Murray Head singing some of the lyrics were featured interspersed in it, though.
I was in the U.S. Navy Dec. 1998 to April 2003. In 2000 the ship I was on, The USS Reuben James FFG57, and together with the USS Germantown, we went to The Philippines and Thailand. We had U.S. Marines with us. They served as Shore Patrol. I must say, those were the 2 best ports I ever went too.
55 years ago today [09/16/1966]...I got off the plane that brought me to Thailand, and I spent "One Night In Bangkok..." The next day I was off to Udorn RTAFB in Northern Thailand for my assignment with the 432nd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing... My next flights took me over North Vietnam.
I was in USAF and spent one week in Bangkok hotel waiting to go to Udorn airbase in northern Thailand. Spent several days in Bangkok also when waiting to leave Thailand. Then went to Philippines for 16 months. This was from 1968 to 1970 during Vietnam problem. Great adventure.
From the Broadway show "Chess". The big hit from that show was "I Know Him So Well". Music was written by the guys from ABBA. The show itself bombed....lasted 2 weeks on Broadway.
"CHESS" was originally produced as a "concept album". As a fully staged musical production it had a successful 3 year run on London's West End, but bombed on Broadway. It has had recurrent "revivals" over the years; usually in a "concert" format. Possibly one of the most successful and profitable vehicles that "no one has ever seen" Go figure...

BTW: The featured lady is a stunner. I'll just share this with my friends as a showcase of everything Bangkok and surroundings (noticed Chatuchak in the film which is local to me).
