- Hello everyone, Joel Syquia here with another Church Feature. It's inspiring to see how a parish and town demonstrated amazing resilience in the face of the lahar (volcanic mudflow) that resulted from the world’s largest volcanic eruption in the last 100 years - the June 15, 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. Even though the parish church of Bacolor, Pampanga was buried by lahar from Mt. Pinatubo in 1995, the parishioners and townsfolk learned to adapt, and continued to use the part of the church that remained above the ground, even as they reconstructed their own homes above the lahar that buried their town.
The story of San Guillermo Parish Church in Bacolor, Pampanga is a story of how a community can work together to literally crawl out the darkness and reach for the light... and keep the faith alive.
It is a Jubilee Church.

Thank you Atty for sharing this another beautiful church of San Guillermo. This is the Church besides our school run by the OSB Sisters then, which was also buried w lahar. It was in that Church I heard God calling me to be a religious sister when I was a sophomore HS student. Thank you for featuring it as it brings back many memories both happy and challenging ones. After the lahar, we students were toured by bus to see our school and we were all crying to our hearts. And I felt home watching your vlog.
