    The exit sign is wired for 277 volts because a lot of commercial buildings are wired for it. I have installed over 300 of these during my work life. I have an old exit sign I believe came out of an old theater in downtown Sacramento. You would have had a field day in my boom truck with all the different bulbs and ballasts. You are absolutely right about the led light, hit and miss if it works. The drivers are the weak link in leds. You made a good choice with the fiberglass ladder. It reminded me of my plastic bucket that I hung off my aerial bucket. They are handy when your in the air. Great show, thank you

    I replaced my 25 year old 6’ wood ladder last summer with a Gorilla ladder. I love it! My Son liked it so much that I gave him one for Christmas. In fact, I received that 6’ wood ladder for Christmas. My wife put my Son’s name on the to/from tag that year even though he was only 6 years old at the time. I remember how excited he was when I got it. That made it even more special for me to give him his first ladder for his first home.

    Those led ceiling lights are quite nice, I put one in our living room and one in hallway; found both at Lowe’s, with the selectable light color the major reason. Exit signs are those things that “hide in plain sight”, most don’t think about them, until there is an emergency. Some buildings are so convoluted that even with signs it would be difficult to get out in a hurry, let alone when panic sets in. Great info as usual, Thanks.

    I have 2 Gorilla ladders, 4' and 6' - I love them; their light weight, top platform and their baskets!
    Also, you have to know the "Belt Buckle Rule". Any time you are reaching out on a ladder, keep your belt buckle within the 4 feet of your ladder and you will never tip over.
    The wobbling ladders can be easily fixed by setting one of the "long legs" on the ground and the opposite "long leg" straight over it.
    Then pull/ push the two towards each other. This will adjust the metal hinges just enough to let all 4 feet set flat/ on the same plane and alleviate the wobble.
    It's kind of like you using the Dake! There will be a lot spring-back to account for, but I have corrected 100 ladders this way.

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  3 дні тому +1

      Stephen- That 4’ platform ladder was just too stiff to adjust, at least in the store. Maybe it’s just the rigidity of the platform. 😃👍

      @ I have a 6 foot fiberglass Werner that I bought 27 years ago when I first opened my business. I have installed and maintained so much Carwash equipment while standing on that thing that it has become very sentimental to me. I took it home a couple of years ago to semi - retired it, and now I use it at home three or four times a week. It’s possible that Werner is having labor problems. Labor problems, equal quality problems. It’s sad when a good brand goes downhill.

    I like the ladder John! When LED fixtures first hit, I changed out most of my home lights and some rental property lights as well. Not a one of them lasted more than 2 years. I have since gone back to bulb style fixtures, but use LED bulbs available at the dollar store for $1.25 each. Funny thing is the dollar store bulbs last really long, and so what if they crap out? Easy fix, as opposed to changing the whole fixture, and it's way cheaper than a new fixture.

    Something I've thought about in using LED lights. The utility companies are wanting customers to use LED lights to conserve energy. The rub is it may save you money on your utility bill, but the companies are in turn losing revenue so the cost of electricity to the user is going up. the Tennessee Valley Authority has a program to fund solar panels for your home. Users save money and the TVA goes up on their rates.

    277V is used frequently in commercial lighting. Definetely need to know what your doing there, amazing feeling the hair stand up on your skin going near it where you really can learn about electricity reaching out and grabbing you. Also I'm beginning to like aluminum ladders better for less weight and fiberglass ladders will deteriorate especially exposed to UV sunlight they will powder and begin to crack i always feel like it's a risk compared to aluminum.

      I agree, a good aluminum ladder is a really nice addition to the shop, especially if they are well made. 😃👍

    I'm surprised about the Werner ladders. I made a living on those things. We had a 40' fiberglass job and I'm telling you, that's a beast. Damaged ladders should not be for sale. That was odd.

    277 volts is a commercial wiring use on a 480 volt system. Like your house you have 240 volt between the 2 hot wires for dryers and stoves and 120 volt between either hot and and neutral for lights and receptacles.
    In a big commercial building where they have a 480 volt/277 volt system 3 phase you have 3 hot legs and a neutral so you get 480 between ant 2 hot legs and 277 from any hot to neutral
    208 volt 3 phase commercial systems have 3 hots wit 208 volt between any 2 hots and 120 from any hot to neutral
    480 volt/square root of 3=480/1.73=277 volt
    208 volt/1.73=120 volt

    Be very careful with fiberglass ladders as if they crack often the crack can't be seen until you put some load on it !!! ie when your climbing it.
    But take the load off and the crack closes so you can't see it.

    277 V is nasty stuff... it is a 480 V hot leg to neutral. It is popular in US commercial offices because you can have many many light fixtures on one switched circuit. 277 V * 15 A = 4155 W vs. 120 V * 15 A = 1800 W.

    You might want to rethink your lighting apparatus a bit. You would be surprised at the cumulative weight of the fixtures. Your design is relying on the vertical holding power of the screw threads of the hinges and locking mechanism alone. Maybe put the hinges on the top side of the 2x3? At least that will take some pressure off one side.

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  3 дні тому +1

      Actually it’s very interesting why we are drawn to a more yellowish color- it mostly has to do with our Sun. Our visual receptors are much more receptive to that spectrum because of evolution. The higher (blue) spectrum often causes issues like glare and sleep problems. This was never an issue with incandescent bulbs because the light was perfectly matched to our optimal range. 😃👍
