Use the GPSP core. I have had damn near flawless emulation for GBA games. There are flaws, of course but, it at least runs at full speed. One flaw that always bothers me is with one game in particular and that’s Metroid Fusion. It’s just the animation when killing enemies. You can also get way better PS1 performance with the PCSX Rearmed core. You also have to make some edits in the configuration for controls for PS1 games.
You should check out arcadepunks and get a cometely set up Pi0 image, like the one from Godzi or from CoinJunkie. You won't be facing any issues with playing GBA or anything with one of those. Even a lot of PS1 games run just fine.
If they made a drop-in solution like this modeled after the original GBA case, that would be an instant buy for me. Especially if it had a rechargeable battery and came in original GBA colors.
Wow! I’ve been looking into these emulators and that Pi based model seems the best performing by far! I was thinking of getting a second hand latest gem 3DS and installing firmware to play retro games, but the Pi runs them great!
I got one a few weeks ago - my BIGGEST and only complaint is that when using three regular AA alkaline batteries, the Pi Zero W won’t even boot up and get to ES. I have to use the USB to 2.5mm barrel jack to maintain power and allow it to boot up. After Imaging my micro SD card (32gb worked), adding the GPi Case patches, and wpa config script, I had to check the ribbon cable, board and complete the first set up steps again to make sure. It was the batteries - needs some higher capacity rechargeable ones such as Enloop or Ladda. This was a big headache for me and an easy thing for RetroFlag to advise on.
Gameboy advance doesn't work well because the pi zero is a little underpowered for it. I'm not sure if the emulator is to blame, maybe settings could be tweaked to optimize it a bit more
I wish more companies would come out with these plug and play type devices for raspberry pis. One of these that was compatable with the model 3 and maybe includes a thumbstick would be sick.

There is a lot to like about this product - especially the expandability in the form of a cartridge that can contain an eventual update to the 2017 Ras Pi Zero W, but will a more powerful Pi update require more power than 3 AA batteries can provide? the problems running GBA games is just down to the power of the rPi zero. If the emulator gets better or if the pi zero was a little bit more powerful, it wouldn't have a problem running GBA games.

Thank you for the video. However, the more I see review videos of a product that no one can get unless the company gives it to a UA-cam reviewer and the more time I wait for Retroflag to release the GPi the less excitement I have to actually purchase one. I bought a Raspberry Pi Zero W just for the GPi when I was under the impression that they were getting released mid June, but then find out they are not releasing the case that numerous UA-cam reviews already have until mid to late July (I am guessing release will be late July and I have to doubt at this point if they will have enough in stock and sent to Amazon to keep up with demand).
Lovely looking case and screen, let down by the fact it runs the pi zero. Pi zero is just weak at 32 bit emulation in general, such a shame but the poor playstation and GBA emulation is just not worth the money when you can get devices like the LDK to play 8 and 16bit emulation and even GBA well for a fraction of the cost.
The issue you are having with the GBA games is due to the emulator. What I found and what helped me is the recommended one for better performance with the Zero Pi is GPSP and not the MGBA set as the default. Unfortunately, that one kept going back to the UI screen when I first tried using it. The easy fix was to load the proper GBA BIOS into the root file. I believe you can do this in the terminal? However, since I use a Mac to do all of this I just used CyberDuck and SSH-ed this BIOS file into the BIOS folder. Then I could set and use the default GPSP emulator for GBA games. 300 times better! Hope this helps. I am a noob when it comes to this stuff.

There are two reasons GBA doesn't work well on the Pi Zero. One is neglecting to add the gba bios to the system. The other is using the wrong emulator. GPSP is what I use, as the other is just not as fast. I recommend using NiMH batteries until a better rechargable solution comes out. Alkaline batteries have a high internal resistance, but NiMH batteries don't, so they last longer in high power draw scenarios.

I have no problems at all with it using AA batteries. It fits with what id expect for the handheld system it resembles.
I want this so bad! Been waiting so long and it's taking foreverrrrr
Just out of curiosity. What is kodi like running in this?
What’s taking forever?
@@snakefriendsandcompany for them to manufacture more and start selling them. I get the feeling when they do go on sale they are going to be sniped.
munki66 I was checking the website every hour everyday until it was available and I was able to get one from the first batch. I hope you get one soon!
Do yo use Kodi for streaming or other uses? just out curiosity as kodi is best used on the big screen tv.. i use kodi to stream but not for much else
@@Sterling20073 yeah I use it to stream and prefere a big screen. I just though it would be nice when winding down in bed to have something portable that wasn't a phone you could just chill with. But maybe it's too much to ask for such a simple board. I have the pi 3 b+ and that struggles sometimes.
The Pocket Go has heavy screen tearing.
It's also stupidly red shifted. There's so much red in the image it's crazy, maybe it's adjustable via filters but the image quality looks terrible.
@@lmaoroflcopter I have one and it is his camera. They look just like the real thing in person.
@@ChrisKewl I have an original bitboy. It suffers from the same red saturated colours I'm not convinced it's a camera issue because of that and the pi screen clearly doesn't suffer with the same issue.
@@ChrisKewl Yup!
I’ve been pretty disappointed in my Pocket Go. Kinda wish I’d put the $’s towards one of these instead.
What don't you like about it?
I have both and I'd say the Pocket Go custom firmware is the way to go.
What dont you like about it?
Won’t play Super Mario Kart. I know that’s like *one* game, but it’s my favourite SNES game. The screen tearing is pretty bad too. Might try a custom firmware.
Hello Elliot. Where can I get this portable ? Can you give me the link, please?
Amazon or ebay bro
A modded 3ds runs GBA games natively. Use Virtual Console injections
Yup, CIAs baby 👍
I have one. It's horrible as the pie w struggles to run anything beyond the 16 bit era.
Can you also add more GBA or GBC GAMES?
Dudes be like: *🅱rasbery pie.*
More like r🅰️s🅱️erry pℹ️
So the screen sucks basically ?!
does anyone have any idea on how to make this so it can accept gameboy cartridges?
You need gba bios
with all the money he has spent on retro handhelds he can buy the new generation consoles :V
Yeah i just checked ETA primes video where he tests a pi zero's gba capabilities. Looks like the gba emulator on yours hasn't been set up properly. Its a bad rom, bad bios or just bad emulator settings. Sure gba won't run perfectly on a zero, But it should be atleast the same emulation quality as a psp.
Ah thanks for the info!
*sees title*
Rasberry Pie 🤤
Also, to get SNES running better. Check out this overclocking video. I put the commands in a Super Mario World runs perfectly ua-cam.com/video/3ndgLXz4e90/v-deo.html
Do you sell original gameboy made to gaming systemm?
battery mod?? please
How do you recharge it?
I was at a game store and saw a n64 for 55 usd. Is it worth getting in you opinion? The n64 has a lot of good games on it
The N64 is great. As long as you have a CRT to play it on!
Pi Zero can't really do GameBoy Advance with any emulator.
Does it come with the games already on the system or do you have to do it
It has games on it
another one without shoulder buttons...
Did you watch the video, within the first minute he mentions the shoulder buttons
Nice
Definitely cost less than 100, unless your terrible at finding deals
Where would you suggest looking? I’m thinking about getting this
