From one white head to another your dad is such an inspiration. Gives me hope. God bless your family
Thank you! You too!
Super awesome to see you out with your Dad man! Just getting started at 54, and I pretty much watch you exclusively. Can’t thank you enough for all of the information that you have provided in your videos! God Bless and remain safe always! 🙏🏻🇺🇸
I used to love hiking with my Dad and Mom. You got to get him out of all the black clothing before you go to the Grand Canyon
Wow, your dad did amazing! I have a hard time going too many miles with my pack and he totally kept up with you. I’m impressed. These are the moments and memories you’ll always have of him. Maybe his trail name should be Cash. Lol
So awesome to take time in your life to take your dad on adventures with you. My children’s dad was lost to us on January 8th this year. So Mr John Barns is now traveling in the stars but his spirit lives within me and my two children. We are honoring him by continuing our hiking adventures and spreading his ashes in all the places he loved to walk. So as I travel the AT alone now with my dog, Alice I carry JB in my heart. I am Cheryl Barns and still enjoy your adventures Thank you for sharing
So sorry for your loss.
Sorry for the loss
Wonderful trip with your Dad. What a blessing.
So cool that you did that with your dad! Looks like you both had a great time. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Wow, what a great video! Especially the Dinner, Up and down from Dragoons tooth and then around the fire! I’m sure it will make a great memory for you and your Dad will truly treasure it! Thanks for sharing and still helping him adjust to life on the trail. He did awesome and made us older guys proud!!
One of my favorite videos from you. I lost my father when I was 6 years old so you are so fortunate to still have him. Someday hopefully there will be three generations hiking together
One can only hope!
Heartwarming ! You and your dad, just a great video and trip. With what my family has been thru in the last four months, this really hit home for me. I hope you know how important this adventure was, if you don’t, you will someday.
Thank you
Rick
Hey Rick yes I thought about what this trip means every moment I was out there. Was so great to do something like this, and the upcoming grand canyon trip.
What a fantastic time with your dad. I'm sure you will cherish the moments you have shared.
Ummm, your Dad's trail name should obviously be 'Cash'! :)
Glad someone else said it. No doubt it would be if he wore that on a thru hike.
Cash is king
“ Hello cow! Can you please moooove over”
😂😂😂
So funny! Good to see you making it past them safely.
Also! Very sweet seeing you hike with your dad!
Your father is a beast!! The apple doesn't fall to far from the tree... Great hike. Love that area ...
Dad is a great Trail Name.
Thank you Jason for another great adventure.
PS: That photo of your wife is priceless.
Just watched the adventure with your Dad. Treasure this , you had the privilege that most people will never have. Good luck and God bless you both. Keep on adventuring!
I loved watching this video. Absolutely hysterical with the yucky oatmeal! Dad did great! Thanks for making sure he didnt fall off a cliff. ❤
Lol np Mom
My fondest memories of my father was back packing the Dolly Sods and the Otter Creek Wilderness areas of West Virginia. That was long before Cell Phones, GPS and well marked trails. We would would use our compass and topo maps as our only guide. We never got "lost".....Just turned around now and then.......lol. The well worn trails of today really never existed then and it was easy to miss the turns. Yet we would wander, camp, fish and have an amazing adventure. Thanks for stirring the memory banks......
It’s so great to see you and your dad hiking together! You obviously have good genes!!
Around 6 years ago is when I decided to get into backpacking. This channel is the main one I watched in preparation for my first trip. Not only that, but this hike, the Virginia Triple Crown, was my first ever backpacking trip. This video makes me want to do it again.
Glad to hear and thanks for watching!
Cool hike, especially with your dad! Just did the triple a couple months ago. Amazing experience. Thanks for sharing!
I did this last year. Throughly enjoyed it. Great to see your Dad out there. It is truly encouraging and inspirational. Tinker Cliffs was my favorite view spot. The Catawba Valley Trfail up to North Mountain was a butt-kicker. Enjpoyed the video.
Love the night sounds and that you brought your dad
So awesome you could do this with your Dad! It will be a wonderful memory. My youngest son hiked this section of the AT with me.
It's a great section. Hoping to hike it one day with my son as well.
Such a great blessing to share outdoor adventures with loved ones but especially parents! Loved watching y'alls adventure ... Tinker Cliffs was one of my favorite views in that area 😀
oh wow so looking forward to seeing you at the GRAND!! finally! fun with cows that was hilarious getting past them/ and a little scary, im afraid of cows they know we eat them, they might attack! lots of great views and forest scenes and looks like you got a bit of rock scrambling in too, great stuff. so nice you get to hike with your dad, thanks for taking us along.
Loved this adventure with your dad!!! Made me miss fishing with my dad, lost him in 2000 to cancer. Your dad was so brave climbing that rock wall, I was watching saying nope not a chance I'd be doing that! But I am afraid of heights. I've done a couple of things to challenge myself in that area but still don't think I could have done that. Here's to many more videos with you and your dad ❤️
This has been my favorite video of yours! What fun to see your Dad out there with you! That was really an ambitious route for a first time backpacker, he rocked it! Speaking of rocks, if he likes rock formations, he would be in seventh heaven at the Red River Gorge.
Yes he did very well!

That is pretty damn cool. You can put that one in the priceless treasure vault...
Wow. Your Dad did an awesome job! What a wonderful experience to share. Hope all goes well with the fall trip to the Grand Canyon.
Thanks so much!
A fantastic hike with your father. What a joy to watch.
Another fantastic video. I’ve gotten to explore the AT cause of your thru hike video you inspire me to get out more and hike.
Hi Jason 👋 always great to hear from you, hope you had a great 4th 🇺🇲 Thank you, hope you're doing well, stay safe and take care my friend 🙏
Love macafee knob. My favorite hike. I usually hike it three times a year
Awesome video with your dad!!! This is by far one of your most heart felt and touching videos. Thank you for sharing. -dave
Making memories with your dad, priceless!
Wish i could still do something like this with my dad, he passed away 20 years ago. Pretty scenery, great time spent with a loved one, doesn’t get any better than that. Thanks for sharing
Rings out dirty socks then puts peanut butter on his bagel.. 😂 Your dad's doing an amazing job!
Great video! I love hearing all the frogs in the background on your first night. Great woodland atmosphere! Your dad is an inspiration!
I’m so proud of your dad and excited for you having that moment.
I was with a group of Boy Scouts doing the triple crown the week before you, and even though I spent some time prepping on our trails in western Pa, your dad made it look a lot easier than I remember.
Like your dad, I was with my son who made sure I was ok. Since we started following you about 6 years ago, he has become quite the hiker and is planning to attempt the AT next March.
Excellent job on this one, my favorite so far. And the footage of climbing the rock face to Dragons Tooth was the best I’ve seen, brought me right back.
Hope you are recovering well, and thanks for showing my son and I how to go on our own adventures.
Came here from Blot Outdoors show where you won a free Whaskey, now I'm subscribed.
My son and I did this last week the same direction I guys did. Same camp site on nite 1 but you guys picked a better spot for nite 2. North mountain was no joke. Hats off to u and your dad. You guys made it look easy. My son did well and I thing I will enjoy cooler weather on the AT 24 then the humid weather. Hope ur doing the PCT in 2024.
Wow! Your dad is doing an amazing job. Doesn't look like an easy trail.
Looked like a great trip I definitely would like to go here
How great was that, hiking with your Dad. Really enjoyed the trip.
It was really awesome
You are lucky to have a dad who is really cool and has the same passion, which is adventure. I haven't lost my father in a year, my father is also a very good and fun partner, we can share many things. Warm greetings to your father, may he always be healthy and live long....
That's great. I wish I were able to spend more time with my Dad. Whenever I try something new like backpacking or a new type of fishing, I always think this is something my Dad would have liked doing.
Loved the scene with you and your Dad around the campfire with great song selection! All the feels❤❤❤
That’s the first time I’ve ever seen anyone use the nylofume bag as a pump sack..,pretty smart!!!
I've been trying to put that process in every video I can, I'm always surprised more people don't use this.
I just did the triple crown two months ago.... Awesome veiws
Very nice time spent with your father! I just too my kids up to White Mountains in New Hampshire to hike up and across the Franconia Ridge..
Oh wow!
Very well done enjoyable video. Thank you.
Seeing you post a video today is encouraging. I’ve been wondering about you after Tuesday’s procedure. I hope you’re feeling okay. Nice to see you getting out with your father.
Hey David. The procedure went smooth. My face is super inflamed right now but I am on my way to recovery.
This video is food for the soul. Thanks, Jason.
Think your dad has a trail name "cash" 😁
Great video ! You're dad is a machine !!
great video!!
🔥🔥🔥 love your channel ❤❤
Your Dad is a pretty good hiker!😊
When you come back to Virginia you've got to check out Douthat State Park plus hike Old Rag - White Oak Canyon - Cedar Run!
Frozen I made the same mistake with the unflavored oats. It is terrible. Im headed to Oil Creek on Monday. I made sure i had my 2 favorite flavors to take along. Happy Trails ma dude.
Enjoy!
Cool video with dad always enjoyed your video, can you please give more info on chili and Fritos dinner
Sure it's just a Mountain House meal you can find on amazon or really any sporting good store. The meal is called Chilli mac and beef. cook per the package instructions boil in a bag kinda thing) then crunch of some fritos and throw them in.
I did this in the fall 6 or 7 years ago now... There was only one water source between dragons tooth and mcafee knob. I was dying. Left the trail early and was so dehydrated...
I am 69 tell pops he did great, I will be on the AT next year 70 in March
Awesome! You two must be very proud of each other! Where was your mini pump? I am thinking of getting one. I have a Therm-a-rest Neo Air X light, and it is a b***h to inflate! Even with the stuff sack that came with it, I struggle. Your method with the liner bag seems better!
I didn't like how loud it was but for the grand canyon we will bring it for my Dad.
I need to get my dad on a trip soon.
Haha. I know who’s cattle those are. Good to see you did the actual crown. People stop after Tinker Cliffs and call that the triple crown.
Out with Dad 👍😎
Frozen do you always use a Sawyer filter?
Yup, very happy with it and no reason to change
Your dad's in pretty good shape
Any plans on a trip back to Red River Gorge??
Not any time soon
Need to get him the little electric pump
Oh yea we are definitely bringing the pump for him next time.
How are you liking the Evolved Supply Co. pack? I haven't seen it in any of your other videos since you did your initial review (except for this one). Seems like you prefer the Lite AF packs. I am in the market for a similar pack and these two are in the top 3. It will probably come down to between the Evolved vs Lite AF. Which would you choose?
In the first version of the pack I was sent. I can't reach the water bottle pockets. I met Darwin at trail days in may in Damascus and he took my advice and lowered the bottle pockets by 1.5" and I tried the new one on and I could reach them. He's been busy with his business but at some point I'd love to try the new version on some trips. But yes I do prefer the LiteAF packs and will be using one on my PCT hike.
@@FrozensAdventures Thanks for the quick reply. I wish I could try them out in person. Maybe I'll just wait until next year an head to trail days where I can try them all out. Also, I just wanted to say that I have been watching your videos since the early days of your channel and really enjoy them. Keep up the good work!
-Todd (Kojak)
Thanks for watching and you should totally come to trail days. Shorts and I had a great time!
Carry that man a chair!!!😊
Your Pittsburgh accent when you say knob gets me every time
Frozen, I’m looking for a cheap but reliable iPhone mount for my trekking pole. Any recommendations?
Stickpic and a mandroto phone mount. Both hold up well.
What hammock would you advise for someone who wants to sleep in it in a house and is a warm sleeper? Also, what frame would you recommend?
Thanks.
I'm partial to Dream Hammock but inside I think a bridge hammock would better, so look into the Warbonnet Ridgerunner or Dutchware Banyan
@@FrozensAdventures Thsnk you.
What are good trekking poles? What's your top 5 poles
I'm very partial to Leki based on my warranty experience. Honestly though a trekking pole is a trekking pole, check out Cascade mountain tech on amazon if you are on a budget. Otherwise base your decision off of whatever grip you find comfortable,;me personally I like the foam grips over cork but dislike rubber grips.
@FrozensAdventures cool thanks I went with the komperdell mountaineer cork grips and I'm trying out the topo athletic mnt racer 2
My father at 48 wasn't able to do what your dad just accomplished.
First!!
Winner!
I’m boycotting Chick-fil-A because they’re not open on Sundays. The only time I ever get a chance to go there. Boo, Boo! You’re church can; meh whatever. Keep your womb off my wallet.
