Expanding Chickens Neck southwards, and ensuring NE states have access to the sea (ports), should have been done at Partition. Indian road and rail could be running all the way to Myanmar, and on to Thailand. Later, in 1971, India's leaders could have asked for those territories (as gifts for their sacrificial help towards BD independence), or legally purchasing the lands outright - monies that would have helped a new, struggling BD. Instead what did India get? Poor sea and land access to her NE states, millions of BD illegals, a chokepoint in north West Bengal, and now a radicalizing BD that wants to bed down with her former slave masters (Pakistan) and new commie bankrollers (China), deftly playing both the Muslim Card and the BRI Ocean Access Card. Neither are in India's interests. I judge India's leaders harshly for their missing key opportunities or being lazily reactive. Perhaps, just perhaps, these missed (or better) opportunities might arise again, or need to be "engineered".
100% correct, in 1971 we should have taken the Silugiri corridor(chickens neck) during Sheikh Mujibur's time by 1973. Indira Ghadhi won the war and lost the peace, got busy with that jack A** Bhutto , he walked away with a smug smile on his face....
