The people known as anago in Benin are Yoruba from the kingdoms of Ketu and Sabè and over places in Benin republic. They speak various dialects of Yoruba and migrated from Oyo and Ilé Ifè. Contrary to what is said in this video, we consider ourselves to be Yoruba. It was the Fon people who created the name ANAGO because of our ancestors' navigational skills, unlike the Fons who can't navigate. Anan means boat in Fon. So, they say those who come from the boat lift. I'm Yoruba and I have families in Nigeria and they recognize me as their sister.

Anan and Anago are different etymologically. I do not think they are connected.

The Ga's of Ghana still refer to all Yuroba speaking people as Anago having migrated from Ile Efe in Nigeria. Possibly Anago was the prominent identity before the coming of the 'white'.

The main intention of the British colonialist wasn't to bring the different people together as one. It was meant to disconnect the people from a part of their ancestry and identity. There must be something they don't want yorubas of today to know. Those in Benin Republic retain the Anago identity. I am thinking the term Anago could be related to the Nagas, which really point to the ancient ancestry of the yorubas. It's a possibility. This could have helped us identify our origin. But with a term like Yoruba, it doesn't connect us with the past.

@@FreedomBiafra My Dear, the Yoruba are speaking the undiluted Hebrew language, now i will tell you prophecy referring to Yoruba in the Bible, i am sure you are aware of the monarchical government of the Yoruba, it came way back from king David, check out this scripture speculation the priced kingdom of Yoruba as the tribe of Judah:Gen 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
That sceptre is what you see in the hands of Yoruba kings, the Word of God is telling us how to identify the tribes through what they practice and the picture of their culture
