  • The bronze medal game of the 2019 Men’s Softball World Championship between Canada and New Zealand was a barn burner!
Canada’s starter, Patrick Burns, went the distance giving up just 3 hits while striking out 12. Joshua Pettett started for NZ gave up 4 hits and 2 runs over 5.0 innings of work.
Only 3 Kiwi’s touched base on offense throughout the game, two granted first by Burns. The third, Reilly Makea, decided to touch them all with a shot up the middle in the 4th.
Canada gave the fans something to write home about scoring 1 in the bottom half of the same inning. Roy took a walk to first and Mullaley came to the plate, 2 batters and 2 outs later, to drive him in with a triple down the leftfield line to tie the ballgame.
In the second half of the 5th, Canada got the go-ahead run after Ellsworth singled up the middle to reach. Boland and Hunter went down on a pop up and line drive respectively, giving Pettett the advantage. He gave Roy 1st, moving Ellsworth over, before Ezekiel stepped into the box. Brad Ezekiel’s single to left was enough to drive Roy around for the run that would be the difference in this ball game.

Oh boy leading the war cry with the bat. Watching afterwards to make sure no one’s snickering. It’s Their ass if they are!
    Love it ✊

Nothing beats a good Haka to kick off a game, no matter the final score.

Technical question, what type of bats are used in this type of softball (men's fastpitch vs slowpitch)? Not sure if they use the slowpitch bats, ASA, USSA, etc.

Hi Angel, Great question! Every tournament has bat regulations. To find out the differences between the slow and fast pitch bat requirements, or each tournament's requirements, you can check the organizer's regulations on their website. In this case, the WBSC regulations for 2019's tournament can be found here: www.wbsc.org/en/events/2019-mens-softball-world-championship/info

@@baseballebm So all those pitches are illegal? The push foot isn't dragging, it's jumping. Both teams. Interesting.

Crow hopping has been allowed in men's pro softball for years

@@stephennarayan They must've changed the rules due to the amount of pitchers who were crow hopping. Similar to when lifting in the line out (rugby) became legal.

Pitchers are great I’m sure but they shouldn’t replant after 3 feet. That’s illegal. Be a real pitcher and throw from the rubber.

@@drumilliron5637 Don't exaggerate. I grew up around some of the best fast-pitch hurlers in the world...ones that won US and world championships-they were nearly unhittable but they did not throw 100+...likely in the 80s
