Great video - love the quality of what you produce. I’ll just add - the modules!!!! - I think that’s my favourite improvement - more choice, predictable costs, and much more exciting engine building/pull back turns compared to the cards dwellings :) and also repair/scrapyard - so even if you lose battle, you can still salvage your awesome pullback!

I am 5 plays in now and love everything about this game. The only thing that I think keeps popping up as a negative is how one can not go after a strategy that neglects the commerce track and the vault bonus, if another player goes up to vault 2 and builds a strong tableau. In all our games, the winning strategy (with a big margin) was always: vault 2, maxing out one or two other tracks and focus on resource generating modules. On their last return to station turn the player generated 8-15 resources (incl. cards), winning the game by this 30-40 pts margin, before players who were in the lead, gad better civ end game scoring modules, more developments etc. What do you think? For me it feels commerce is mandatory which somehow skews the distribution of faction abilities, non track or commerce focused factions seem to be definitely weaker.
Only got it to hit the table once so far. But even while reading the rules i was pumped and hyped and after one play i can say it will never leave my collection and its the first game ever where i got the Urge to try the solo mode because its such a good game

Great video, Tim! I'm not sure if I agree (yet), but I might. Your presentation and media artistry are top-notch. Thinking about your comparisons makes me wonder if they couldn't maybe do a DoE expansion that was mostly cards and similar cardboard unit upgrades. I feel like they could tweak the combat and units, and maybe adjust the magic (tactics cards) and the cards you can acquire (maybe even modularly where you can throw in one or the other) to adjust (for those who are interested) DoE in this direction a little bit, while not straying too far from the theme and feel of the original. I think it would get some attention if they did, and could be relatively straightforward in terms of components to add (mostly "cards"). I agree most (if not all) of your points. Either way, I enjoyed the video (though I do also really like the game). Thanks!
@pvaughan007 I forgot about that. Well, I'm 9 plays in on AE (mostly solo), and it is definitely moving up my list. I'm up to Commander Riker , and he beat me pretty good last night. You guys have done a great job! I look forward to seeing what's next!
I'm stunned 🤣 I'm only partway through my first solo game though and I can already see this game jumping wayyyy up in my rankings. Gonna need to find a way to convince some friends to play this multiplayer haha.
Awesome production on your video Tim 👍 I’m not sold on the idea that the game should give you more reasons to actively seek out the Raiders. I mean: thematically I guess a couple of factions would want to chase them down, but I got the impression that they’re just there in the Edge and you need to live with them. I think the game doesn’t want to you directly attack them, rather know they’re a constant threat and you should build up your faction and position your ships so that they don’t constantly send your whole fleet to the scrapyard, resulting in a very weak Return to Station turn. You may want to go hunt some specific raiders, but there a very few cases IMHO: the Abductor Saucer, for example, needs to be taken down out of necessity because it keeps scooping up leaders, making developments hard to build. The Hive gives you drones to use as temporary ships with infinite range, so it could be a nice move setting yourself up to attack it. I feel the game just wants you to take them into consideration when planning your strategy, whether you want to strengthen up and endure their constant attacks, manoeuvre your ships to avoid them or just live with the fact you might lose quite some ships to them.
for me it is a double edged sword, whilst we got more options in what we can do and thus strategically improved, we felt the game was very tedious to set up and pack up in comparsion with Dwellings, that great simplicity and depth in same package is lost in this itteration , the components , layout on the table felt messy where Dwellings felt so tidy and clean to overview ... But it is a very good game yet far from the best game of all the time for me though!
@@ABlokeCalledDaz Yeah I really want to justify owning both because the art in Dwellings is great, but AE is just Dwellings, but better. I don't see a reason to own both unless you have fond memories of Dwellings, but mechanically speaking there seems to be no reason to play Dwellings if you have AE.
Agree with @ABlokeCalledDaz and @leadhead69 here! Mechanically, AE is better for me too, and I have Dwellings now more as a collector's item-i could never imagine myself parting with it but I really have been reaching for AE time after time!
Honestly with the beef about raider rewards, It'd be so much cooler to just get a module(for the ones with a track upgrade) or for an expansion idea is to also give them a raider specific moon/reward token (like science/supremacy) that you can only get from defeating them.
Andromeda's Edge does not appeal to me in the slightest, but I can relate super strongly with this "my favorite game of all time has been toppled and I can barely believe it myself". Only in my case, it was Arcs toppling Root.
@@TimChuon I'm not 100% sure, man. Root has been SO FIRMLY my favorite game of all time ever since I first read the rules to it in 2020 (before I even played it!). I absolutely adore that design. WOW!! Totally didn’t see this coming!! Totally out of left field! Can we get some sort of heads up next time, please!!! I’m in a state of shock. Really. Truely. 💜
I agree not being able to dominate them is to bad. Maybe there could been one faction that could or something. But yoh do have the hornets which can give you free actions. I played as the refugees, I beat the hive 3 times and stored all 3 hornets. Then I had a massive turn at the right time, also surrounding my opponent with them so their next turn they had to fight all 3. Also they majorly improved them by giving them shields. It sucked in dwellings when a cool monster came out and someone defeated them the following turn and they go away lol. With this, they definitely stick around. The mortality sphere with 2 shields. Even the S Raiders where you only remove one at a time. In dwellings, defeating them also only moved you up a track. But at least with this if you defeat the right raider ay the right time you can move up multiple tracks and get bonuses with both. Maybe you get a ship upgrade, move up supremacy giving you a supremacy token which allows you to move up 2 more tracks, and you choose green and blue giving you more tactics cards and science token which allows you to get a module which moves you up that track, etc etc. I’ve seen huge combos. That never happened in dwellings. Also how some raiders give resources, some give track movement, some give leaders, some give free actions, etc. there’s a lot of variety.
I actually disagree on the raider rewards. For example, the ones with shields present opportunities for two jumps in the supremacy track, plus another two jumps in whichever track the reward is in. This is a minimum of 4 points, but the industry example could be an additional ship upgrade, which you can then use to compound more points with the extra ship you just got for free. The science module can get even crazier because you could get a token from the stack of 5 to advance in another track, so you could in a single victory get a swing of at least 4-6 points, probably more. If you set yourself up by fixing the event deck with your science vessel, you can not only give yourself an extra 4+ points for endgame scoring, but you can also trigger an event which can swing you even more points. I ended our last 50 terminus game at 170 points with this strategy and it was very rewarding. Plus winning a raider encounter means the other players are going to have to think twice about moving near you, as the raider will strike and then your fighting force can escalate. Additionally, it can be beneficial to fight raiders just for the sake of losing a fight, as you can slot a moon and gain resources you'd struggle to get otherwise. I've intentionally sacrificed transports before so I could slot a moon, gain two titanium, and then on my next turn build a factory. Worst case if you have a surprise win, you're moving up on the supremacy track and have a better map position. That said, the Hive is a great example of a raider that I'd love to see more of, and I do agree that gaining the ability to dominate them or launch with one after destroying it would be incredible.
oh that's a very very good point! Looks like timing plays a lot into the rewards too, especially when going up the progress tracks at the right moment. It also makes sense why The Hive is my favorite raider now because it's reward is the type of reward i want to see across all of them-the hornets coming out is one of the most thematic/unique mechanisms ive ever seen! thank you so much!
What do you think of Twilight Imperium 4th compared to this game? Would you recommend AE without thinking twice or do you think I should consider some things before buying either of them?
i'm not sure if/when they're taking preorders, but their original campaign is linked here! gamefound.com/en/projects/cardboard-alchemy/andromedas-edge or you can reach out to Cardboard Alchemy here! cardboardalchemy.com/support/
update! just saw that Game Nerdz has a preorder option if it's available for you! (not sponsored/affiliated) www.gamenerdz.com/andromedas-edge-all-in-pledge-deluxe-edition-add-ons-preorder
I’ve played with it and it’s still great! You don’t get the epicness of the minis/slotting in your leaders, plus lots of the bits are cardboard instead of wood (moons), but it still plays wonderfully. It’s a great option still!
OH tough question! After 12 plays, here's what I would say: 1) Two player- pacing and speed keeps the same tempo as dwellings, but you build so much faster so you get to keep taking turns 2) Four player- challenges ramp up because now you're competing with more people for limited resources, but it's so fun fighting with others and dealing with mixed player personalities; i'd probably like this more once i get a group with less AP 🤣 i like it a lot because it's vastly different from 2 3) Three Player- a little more involvement than two but faster than 4 of course! You still get to build out more of your engine so it does play similarly to two 4) Solo-Unity is wildly good here! Not too much maintenance, a very good challenge, and it's even good practice for multiplayer 5) 5 player-i'd only play with a really experienced group! it's super fun still, but if people take too long, the game could be 3-4 hours at a minimum and it'd feel slow if everyone keeps thinking about what to do x10 when it's their turn 🤣
@@TimChuon thank you! Great to hear as I plan to stick to 2-3-1 player counts most times. Every time I get 4 the group it's for a war game like wonderland or blood rage or ankh. Keep up the great work!

WOW!! Totally didn’t see this coming!! Totally out of left field! Can we get some sort of heads up next time, please!!! I’m in a state of shock. Really. Truely.
💜
HAHAH wow, i am *so* glad this secret wasn't revealed anytime beforehand *WHEW*
@@TimChuon Right?!?
Going All-in on this game was a wise decision 😂
Hey Tim, do you have a good idea for a house-rule for the Raiders? Wolf pack
@@TimChuon yeah for what it's worth, The Hive is also my favorite raider :)
Everything leadhead said, but also one non-gameplay factor that incentivises me to chase down raiders: For Glory! 🐺
Tim!!!! 🙂
HI FRIENDS 👋🏽
I dont think this game is for me but man is this video so well made. liked and subscribed
What do you think of Twilight Imperium 4th compared to this game? Would you recommend AE without thinking twice or do you think I should consider some things before buying either of them?

Love the video and I like Andromeda tho i had hopes for BRWR
ah thank you!! tbh BRWR is way up there too!
Confessing that I have yet to get a chance to play Dwellings.😢 Plan on trying it before AE, in case AE makes me not want to play Dwellings.
OH that's a good plan! would definitely recommend playing DOE first for a bit until you're ready to jump into the Edge!
How / Where can we purchase Andromeda's Edge? Can you please post a link?
i'm not sure if/when they're taking preorders, but their original campaign is linked here! gamefound.com/en/projects/cardboard-alchemy/andromedas-edge or you can reach out to Cardboard Alchemy here! cardboardalchemy.com/support/
update! just saw that Game Nerdz has a preorder option if it's available for you! (not sponsored/affiliated) www.gamenerdz.com/andromedas-edge-all-in-pledge-deluxe-edition-add-ons-preorder
Here we go!!!
Is this the base game review or the all in?
The all in
I just discovered this channel, it's very very beautiful 😢
Teaching/playing my first match with a buddy tonight!
But… no sound bases 😭😭🤣🤣. Greta content as always! Now we need new Top 10 hahah
Is that a deluxe box or similar? It seems different to the one you can see in shops.
I'm excited to get my first play of this
Very tempted to pick this up and sell my DoE... I've probably touched DoE 2 or 3 times... lol
What do you think about the retail edition?
I’ve played with it and it’s still great! You don’t get the epicness of the minis/slotting in your leaders, plus lots of the bits are cardboard instead of wood (moons), but it still plays wonderfully. It’s a great option still!
How would you rank the player counts including solo? I know this is subjective but love to hear your opinion.
OH tough question! After 12 plays, here's what I would say:
1) Two player- pacing and speed keeps the same tempo as dwellings, but you build so much faster so you get to keep taking turns
2) Four player- challenges ramp up because now you're competing with more people for limited resources, but it's so fun fighting with others and dealing with mixed player personalities; i'd probably like this more once i get a group with less AP 🤣 i like it a lot because it's vastly different from 2
3) Three Player- a little more involvement than two but faster than 4 of course! You still get to build out more of your engine so it does play similarly to two
4) Solo-Unity is wildly good here! Not too much maintenance, a very good challenge, and it's even good practice for multiplayer
5) 5 player-i'd only play with a really experienced group! it's super fun still, but if people take too long, the game could be 3-4 hours at a minimum and it'd feel slow if everyone keeps thinking about what to do x10 when it's their turn 🤣
@@TimChuon thank you! Great to hear as I plan to stick to 2-3-1 player counts most times. Every time I get 4 the group it's for a war game like wonderland or blood rage or ankh. Keep up the great work!
Keep it up!
Hey thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you get a chance to try out AE! 🐺
I love Dwellings and thankfully, for my wallet, sci-fi just doesn't do it for me. I passed on this one and will keep on trucking with Dwellings.
