I was there! Britt DID play for like 10-15 minutes by himself. Aside from yelling at him, security and cops couldn't figure out HOW to STOP him. In their eyes, Britt had weapons (drum sticks) in his hands! It was intense!!
Glad to be able to say I was there. The PoPo were menacingly twirling their side-handle batons, trying to find the beat to jump through Britt's flailing arms and grab him. I think Pajo undersold the flying crutch part. I have always marveled at the commitment it took to surrender a medical device out of anger.
Earlier in the night Crain played, and Britt was dancing on stage with another guy near Jon Cook during what was going to be Crain's last song. A bouncer with the club (The Grand in New Albany) slammed Britt up against the brick wall at the back of the stage, as if to punish him for being on stage. Jon said they'd play one more song that night, and it was dedicated to bouncers, and they went into 'Hey Cops!' Ironically, I saw Britt slammed up against a wall twice that night, the second time was end of the night. Someone was trying to reason with him to not go back in and play, Britt kept trying to go back in and had to be held back. I remember walking past to leave and hearing the guy say "you (Britt) made a lot of people happy tonight," he was right. One of the best shows I remember from the 90s, despite being in Indiana.
Britt Walford has somehow ascended to God like status among the indie rock Pantheon. Also I remember being super surprised that Evergreen played at that battle of the bands (St Francis?). They never played all ages shows so it was epic to see them before everything went to absolute batshit.
This was an excellent wee short film. I loved the animation and it really took me back to gigs in Glasgow when I was young in the late 80s early 90s. Barrowlands in Glasgow is famous for being an out-of-control venue. It always has been. The song Ballroom Blitz is written about a gig there in 1973 that turned into a near riot. Beastie Boys shot a film of a gig there. Anyway, the animation in this is brilliant and the way he told the story really brought back that feeling of adrenaline and excitement when a gig teeters on the edge of mayhem.
I was watching this video over 2 years ago and I paused it, and it just jumped to the next video, and it had become unavailable. I woke up today and typed "slint show story" and glad I found it again. Imma rip it in 480p and put it in my miyoo now.
Funny when Dave was talking about the dude from the other band getting all sincere about how important the battle of the bands is . He said the guy is like a politician or something now haha.
"The music wasn't the big problem, it was more their attitude... Sex acts between band members in public. People carrying drugs across borders. Pajo sleeping with the producer's girlfriend while we were making the record." -- Billy Corgan

I think out of ALL of the Britt stories that are out there. This one is easily the coolest.
He hits real hard.
This video is a masterpiece. The narration of Pajo and the animations are fantastic

What year was this?
1995.
Every time i hear an anecdote about Britt Walford the mystery grows. What an iconoclastic and mysterious individual

Incredible bonding moment! Probably the best show ever for those who were there! -
- Peace for Tyre - skate on in heaven brother!
lovely animation work
It was the cops that forced Walford to stop playing. They lifted him off the stool and his arms were still moving.
Fantastic animation. Kudos!
Thanks David, I enjoyed this story.
SLINT - SPIDERLAND
That 1996 Evergreen record is so great . Britt's minimal hard hitting drumming holds it all together. Temporary Residence reissued it .
The animation is soooooo fucking cool
Damn who did the animation stuff? Stellar.
I’ve seen this video a million times can anyone tell me what band this is I’d love to hear some sick drums from this guy and a few songs from the band
The band was called Evergreen
Evergreen is such an underrated band that record is excellent.

do you agree with what pajo said about billy corgan
Evergreen is fucking amazing
Cops in pursuit are allowed to cross state lines to get you.
0:15 LOL is he talking about the band Endpoint?
Metroschifter
@@ExterminateTheBruteswhich is weird because they were hardly a “big straightedge band”
That's your story? Power being cut and police being called was every other metal/hardcore show in the early aughts. 🤨
Whk is this guy?
Your profile is called that and you don't know who Dave Pajo from Slint is? Your education is not yet complete.
🧢
The only man that was a suitable replacement for Carlos D. Shame he didn't even stick with Interpol for a year.
wait why were police there for a drummer ?
Everybody else ran.
I guess he was the only one who was still playing with the electricity off. And the people were still going nuts.
