I have been warned that this is the LAST EVER TIME mum will ride for a video. Of course, I have a year to try and work on that... but I think she might really mean it. My student has certainly gone downhill in terms of bravery since that last session, sassiness levels are at an all time high though.
I hope you enjoy this video and have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS if you celebrate. There are three more vlogmas uploads to come before the new year so make sure your notifications are turned on!!

Meg, you have done an amazing job marketing yourself and I always look forward to your entertaining and enlightening vlogs... but I am honestly just the biggest fan of Hobbit. Please let her know that we think she is wonderful, hilarious and so much fun to watch! She has produced superb young horses and a brilliant daughter (don't let that go to your head!), all at once. Merry Christmas to you, Hobbs, and the family. Wishing you a safe & happy new year full of life, laughter & love!

Every mum knows how Hobbit feels... all mothers were all duped....the joy of child birth..and...we pay forever! We didn't read the small print!! 16 years I've been trying to get rid of mine and they still keep coming back...there is no return to sender or an exchange policy I'm afraid! Hobbit is hilarious! Have a Happy and Blessed Christmas everyone! xx

It was very funny however but I feel like I was really willing her to feel good about herself.

I know it’s very late to be making a comment on this post, but I needed a break today so I got caught up watching your videos that I’ve missed. It really struck a cord with me listening to your Mom being so hesitant about riding. Seeing her ride was so great. She’s got a really nice and looks like she’s been riding for years.
I was very lucky to be given a hand me down pony. I have 6 siblings (4 sisters, 2 brothers). The boys never had any interest in riding, but my younger brother appreciated me riding to our villages reservoir to pick him from ice skating. It was probably a 2 mile walk home. Sitting on the back of a warm pony was MUCH better. Two of my sisters rode for awhile, but once I got on Rebel’s back, I rarely got off.
I started 4-H when I was old enough. I cleaned one of our leader’s 5 barns in exchange for riding lessons. I did ours first then rode or ran the 3 miles.
Rebel was how I got around. All of my friends had horses and ponies in their backyards. My friends and I rode our ponies into town to get sweets at the candy store. We to the high school and played Kentucky Derby on the track. It didn’t occur to us that hoof divots needed to be smoothed out. I’m sure the grounds keepers weren’t very happy with us. Of course now, the track has a special surface that would have been hugely expensive to fix.
I’ve continued to ride my entire life. In my twenties, I was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease. My prognosis predicted I’d be a paraplegic by the time I was 40 and a Quadriplegic by the time I was 60. 😢
I was finishing my Master’s Degree with the last part of my thesis left to turn in. I had rescued a gorgeous paint. He was just a neglect and abandonment case. We got him for my hubby. My horse, Arnold, was a near death thoroughbred who was the worst I had ever had.
My first near death rescue was a quarter horse type my parents and 4-H Leader, Judy, helped me pick out. Mission was skin and bones with a back full of sores.
My first sight of him was sickening. He was fully tacked up with a young boy kicking his sides and hitting him with a crop. His head was low and you could tell he wanted to move to make it stop, but he was just to weak to move.
This hack barn was known for this abuse, but he’d pay the monthly fine and continue to abuse his horses. When I chose him the stable owner told my parents if he survived a month, they could send him the $100. If he died, the guy would come cart him away for free. It was my experience with Mission that was another reason to become a Veterinary Technician.
Arnold was even worse. His owner was loaded. He paid $10,000 to buy him in Texas. He paid another $5,000 to transport him to his farm in New York.
Arnold had been physically abused was his previous owner. He was terrified of men and once Arnold reached the farm, his owner, apparently, decided he didn’t like him.
Instead of selling him to a different home, he took his other horses to Florida for the winter. He stuck Arnold in a very isolated field. He made no arrangements for anyone to feed and check up on him. He was all alone, had no feed except what he salvage nor did he have any shelter. Once he had eaten, the only thing that kept him alive was the stream that ran through the pasture. I honestly knew this guy left him die when he left in October.
In February, the neighboring farm moved their horses to a back field. They saw Arnold in the distance. They thought he might be a Moose.
They set the wheels in action to get him to a safe place. I was called to see if I would be interested in taking hm on. I had recently lost my 30 year old Appaloosa, Freckles. I was ready and this was what I needed.
The day I went to see him, no one there. I went out into the field with a halter a lead rope. I put on the halter and softly into his nose. I started to gently touch his face. He was stiff as a board. I got to his neck and and massaged his both sides of his neck. As I reached his withers, I felt his entire body release. All of that tension just left.
I brought him inside and put him inside, put him on the cross ties and gave him a good evaluation. Remember, he had no fat or muscle. His back had no hair and rain rot covered entire back. His hooves had huge chunks missing.
The Vet told me that euthanasia was the kindest option was euthanasia. We knew each other well and one look at me told him I wanted him to try. We decided we’d go day to day for the first week.
The barn manager arrived as we were finishing our medical plan. She looked at Arnold standing quietly and asked me how I’d gotten him. It turned out since he arrived, no one could get near him. They had been putting his food in a bucket. This starved, abused horse would NOT touch his food until no one was anywhere near him. Arnold became my 💜 horse.
On top of all this, he was the first horse I had ridden since I had been given my diagnosis two years prior. My doctors told me I had to give up having children. The weight of a pregnancy could bring the paralysis back and I might not be lucky this time. I had to give up running, skiing, but when they told me I had to give up my horse and riding, I put my foot down and said, “NO!”
I worked out with my doctors some rules I’d follow.
    1. I wouldn’t trail ride alone
    2. I wouldn’t jump anything over 2.5 feet
    3. I’d always have a cell phone
    4. I’d accept new changes in my riding as my symptoms progressed
I was in my mid twenties when I finally got diagnosed. This disease is so rare that most doctors will never see a case in their lifetime.
My symptoms are very similar to multiple sclerosis. In the last 15 years, it’s been categorized as an autoimmune disease. My body attacks my own spinal cord.
I go years in remission and my symptoms don’t get worse. I had a bad case of Covid two years ago. Besides damage to my lungs, the Arachnoiditis is out of remission.
I have had to stop physical therapy when my breathing gets hard. My legs are very week. They are beginning to improve, but not nearly enough to ride. As soon as I’m ready, I’ll take some lessons with my friend on one of her horses. My horse hasn’t been ridden in years. I have to do a lot of work with him to get the “bucks” out. He just turned 20, but he still acts like the 3 year old off the track that he was when I rescued him!
I’ve also done all of my own work. I’m a little OCD when it comes to cleanliness. That’s another thing I struggle with. I’ve had to accept it’s all out of my control for now.
I can’t wait until I’m well enough to do my own work. I really believe I’m not a quadriplegic because of riding and doing all of the work myself and it’s kept my muscles strong. Riding has kept my core muscles strong.
These days (before I got Covid) I was perfectly happy just walking and trotting on the trails. I envy your mother “jumping” poles on the ground! I laughed my ass off watching Jammy jumping ground poles. 😂
So tell Hobbit that I’ll be 70 in December and was riding up until I got Covid. I’m determined to get back into training by the fall. Trotting will get my legs back to pre-Covid strength. I might have to reevaluate everything after I start riding, but even if I never get back in the saddle. Fable will be with me for life. Your Mom isn’t too old to ride. I live for those moments out on the trail with Fable. I’ve had this setback, but I’m not giving up. Riding has kept my disease at bay. I’m not a paraplegic. In fact, I was still competing and working in my forties.
Age is a mental thing. I’ve stayed strong and active my entire life. I haven’t let this illness control my life. I refuse to give up the one thing in my life that is my physical therapist and my emotional therapist. I hope to be spending my 70th birthday out in the barn!
I’m sending you and your Mom congratulatory hugs for you success at Badminton! ❤😊

Hobits seat is incredible ! Plus she is
Riding in a skirt which is incredibly slippy, so I think she did ace ! Better than my mum, Bobble, would do🤣

Given the way Hobbit has styled her hat in this vlog and the way she did the voice over in one of your recent cross schooling vlogs, she's giving off strong wannabe pirate vibes, so maybe next year a sailing lesson is in order, which is a bit of a shame because she is such a good rider! I would actually LOVE a vlog of Cameron teaching Hobbit! Merry Christmas!

Bless your Mums Heart she is putting up with all of your shenanigans supremely. I have been laughing my head off as you have been coaching her. Your Mum really doesn’t want to jump. I know that your Mum is much younger that me, but I wouldn’t want to jump either. It would freak the heck out of me. Don’t forget to get your Mum a Heating Pad and a very Stiff Drink after her lesson. Jane 👍😎🧑🏻‍🦰

Jesus, when Jam raced towards the first jump, I allmost had a heartattack, that could have ended the cristmas real fast. We "mature" break easier. I stopped riding/jumping for that reason (thoroughbred/arabians and Danish warmblood) but really miss it. Proud of your mom! Now I know where your lionheart came from😎🤠
