    IMPORTANT INFORMATION!! My hammer has been in service for 10 years. Today I had a failure. One of the bolts on the spring pack broke. Not the bolt, but the nut stripped off. I will now replace all bolts and nuts on the spring pack. When I do, I will, besides "Loc Tight" on the nuts, I will double nut as a precaution. Also I am writing on the main frame, my "service" date. I will inspect, check all nuts, bolts, welds, lub once a year. Recommend all do the same.

    Way to go, coming late to this one, but looks like a solid build. Thanks for the post!

      Thanks. It was fun to build and have used it a lot. It took awhile to build as much came from the scrap yard. I use it to do Damascus steel.

      @@beslagsmed ya, I got one in the works now...found out real fast how a heavy duty flywheel is needed when the first one flew apart with the new 1.5 hp motor. So now am beefing it up with a 1/2 inch steel plate and an axle bearing. For the short time it was hitting I got 100lbs striking force over a 3x4 area. Much faster for bringing a Billet down to size. Instead of Railroad Ties, I used a Forklift Skid cut down to size. Keep up the good work. And thank you for the vid. with it in action.

      @@illya2348 My flywheel was machined from one solid piece. I didn't want to take chances with important parts. Same with my pins and bushings, they were machined to fit.

    someone said that this hammer was destroyed because it almost killed daniel. is this true?

    • @beslagsmed
      @beslagsmed  3 роки тому

      I heard it was true, but I have also done some alterations which should make it lots safer.

    Can you adjust the hammer-die separation? That striking frequency seems a bit low for me.

      @beslagsmed  10 років тому +2

      No, not now, but I am thinking of taking the connecting rod from the fly wheel, cutting and making an adjustable type of link on it so I can adjust the distance. This was my first build and I can see the advantage now of having that adjustment. Thanks. It will probably be around Christmas time when I take a couple weeks free from work before I can do it.

    I downloaded the plans from Instructables, but they’re not legible. Is there a better version available?

    You Must Be Proud Of Yourself, You Built That All By Yourself. .. That is A Very Nice Example Of What To Do When You Simply Don't have The Strength To Shape With A Hammer Any More, I Get that it Happens at Your Age .. UnRemarkable Book I Just Read about a Little Quaker Boy That Grew Up In His Own Private Idaho as Guide and Diesel Mechanic then he Joined The Army Band and National Guard or as Everyone Else Calls NO-GO's ,Then Saw some stuff freaked out and Moved to Denmark, Lost Himself and Joined NATO , Saw some More Crap and Well Became a Crazy Old Man That Wrote a Few Books .
