- The day before Thanksgiving, I woke up to news reports claiming that the Roblox Corporation had filed a legal complaint against me demanding $1.6M, among other things. In this video series, I go over the merits of their filing and its chilling effect on freedom of expression.

As someone who really enjoys playing Roblox, the accusations they made just to get you scared was very despicable. You CANNOT lose this, we're with you man. The fact that SEGA HAD to take actions to forcefully get rid of this guy even though ROBLOX was supposed to be the one punishing that predator is down right horrendous. And many who, having heard about this incident, will go to tell their friends, and they are unlikely to miss the denouement of all this, because this could lead to a change in the concept of "Freedom of Expression". And as you said, if Ruben wins - This will prove that any content maker will have a chance against huge companies. If Roblox wins - it will be a start of an era, where Bethesda, Activision, Microsoft, Roblox, and etc could sue everyone who done something, that they don't like. Actually, this is already happening.

I've known Roblox was a shady company since I was a 12 year old. I'm 23 now. Roblox knows it can get away with just about anything because the only people that are paying attention are kids, and kids have no voice. Sega of America has a stance of never sending DMCAs unless the person is directly profiting from it, however they have NEVER enforced that, The same goes with people profiting off of commissions; So this means that they most likely knew about the developers activity’s and is one of the main reasons and possibly the ONLY reason they took action.

In a court of law, this all goes down to who the judge is and how much they have accepted and are familiar with current technology, so they would follow and understand a majority of the defendants points. It's basically a 50/50 chance for Ruben Sim's life to be ruined, and those odds must be terrifying.

See if the court where the lawsuit is taking place has anti slapp laws. These can be used to strike down a lot of corporate lawsuits if they are filed in bad faith for the purposes of retaliation.

Roblox is so scared of losing and being exposed that they backed down and settled with ruben after this video was posted. Honestly this video was great. It single-handedly made a counterthreat against roblox in which could’ve made them lose the case if it were to go to trial or even worse for them could’ve threatened the value of roblox stock once word spreads out (which could’ve made roblox lose a lot more.) I’m aware this case has already settled and ruben still has to pay a ton, but it could’ve ended a lot worse for ruben.

Although, the main point is that, not *everyone* can pay money to counter sue like Ruben. Like thie scenario, Roblox could go after anyone else that they hate just as much as Ruben and I don't like where this is going because it sounds to me that they're trying to threaten and silence people who speak ill of their company. You could argue that this case is more serious since it involves terrorist threats and the cancellation of Roblox's conference but I believe Ruben was not the cause of it and they're using him as kind of like a scape goat.

The amount of bullshit that Roblox is trying to hand-feed him with the accusations that they are making is utterly disappointing. It still boggles me that Roblox is going after him for breaking ToS outside of Roblox, and how they hired someone that runs a porn blog. one thing to keep in mind about Sega, they do allow fan projects and they never DMCA them, the reason why SEO was taken down was not only because the game was making unauthorised revenue out of the sonic the hedgehog trademark, it was also because the main developer was a predator and because Roblox didn't take any notice of it, so they took it down instead.
