  • There's a ton of different decks in Modern that look to abuse the graveyard, and while today's deck looks a little bit like Dredge, it as a surprising finish: Crypt of Agadeem and unearth creatures!

      I mean ... the same is true of Dredge in general and it's still one of the best decks to have ever been invented.

  • @BarfChuggers
    @BarfChuggers 7 років тому

    Hey seth. With phantasmagorian you can choose to discard three for its cost then pay the cost again on the stack. Since it's a cost you still get the total 6 discards out of it if you're looking to discard your entire hand that is. Legacy manaless dredge does this "exploit" all of the time. :) sorry if you already know this.

    This deck is epic. Would really like to see how well this works out. I have a Fluctuator deck that uses unearth creatures and hollow one's to win as a backup finisher for legacy, but I've never seen unearth pulled off in modern. It would be sweet, though!

    Extractor demon "leaves play" triggers are the secondary win condition, and how you beat cards like ensnaring bridge. After unearthing everything, at eot, you mill the opponent for 40-80 cards.

    I don't know if it would hurt too much to take out one of those rats but I think collective brutality would be a great replacement. 1 damage from those rats could be the difference between a win and loss but col.brut allows you to discard at the same time as taking a bolt and killing a small creature. I think its worth trading up

    • @joshuataylor9508
      @joshuataylor9508 7 років тому

      After sideboarding, these synergize with pact rat well, while keeping the black creature count high in the graveyard throughout. Otherwise brutality would be a better choice

    Surprised there isn't an X spell as backup, probably better than Worm Harvest. I'd suggest devil's play, but for the RRR flashback. Empty the Pits let's you double up on mana from crypt + delve. Maybe Cut // Ribbons - removal to reuse as a finisher with crypt mana.
    A one-of Increasing Confusion might be worth testing too. Mill it as part of the decks plan, then flashback with 10-20 crypt mana for a lethal mill of 20-40 cards.

    I suspect one of the strengths of the deck might lie in its ability to shift gears and Attack from a different axis. You opponent would be so busy attacking your graveyard and you could just go on the pack rat plan or something else.

    When you're trying to win with unearth, not playing at least one copy of Sedris, the Traitor King is a huge flavor failure. It's a reasonable threat in itself and allows unearthing the dredgers as well for even more punching power. I also may or may not have been brewing a deck built around Sedris, so this is relevant to my interests.

  • @luliby2309
    @luliby2309 7 років тому

    This looks crazy. Let's play it.
    Also, this definitely is not Grixis. It's Glint-Eye. Red, blue, black, and green. It even leans more heavily towards Sultai colors, so that's even more inaccurate.

    I dont think glimpse is needed and you would be better off just playing this jund with looting... Ultimately this deck looks like it'd be better if it were just a standard dredge list. Not trying to be rude or anything. Still cool to see it top and if it's something he really enjoys playing, even more kudos to him.

    Seems like not the best you can do, if you play dredge-like deck. This deck has Problems versus Ensnaring Bridge ad stuff like Relic of Progenitus. Then it isn't even very fast with its combo-kill, but I guess it's enough for those japanese tournaments.

    I played this deck WAY back during shards-zen standard, and I can't help but think that the addition of things like green and dredge hurts the deck. There are certainly enough unearth cards to fill this deck, and if you have more unearth cards you can use some unearth creatures individually for their affects. Being able to double up rat triggers really hurts the opponent, and there are times you just want to hardcast specter. Also, important inclusions like flesh bag marauder and vendetta le a very the deck open to aggro.
